43.95% Rate Increase Proposed - ACTION NEEDED - Kenley Neufeld - January 31, 2007 - What about proposing to Ojai City Council a municipal water district? This company does not want to invest in the infrastructure in Ojai. The water quality is poor, forcing many residents to purchase expensive water filtration systems and bottled water. In many other cities that have municipal water, the cost remains reasonable and stable, while keeping the city solvant. Maybe it is time? Stop these outrageous rate hikes and maybe improve our water quality and service here in Ojai.

proposed rate hike reports (PDF) - Ojai Valley News - July 1998 and September 1999 - "Klaif brought cheers from the estimated 175 people in attendance when he said five years of hearing SCWC’s “nonsense” excuses for dirty water is enough. “I live alone in a small house, and I don’t care if my lawn turns brown, but I would like to be able to drink the water,” Klaif said. “I would like to bathe in the water, and I would like to be able to brush my teeth without worrying what color my toothbrush was going to be when I’m finished. Klaif said he consistently replaces faucet filter screens and finds bits of chunky metal. “Water,” Klaif suggested, “should not be chunky ... that’s peanut butter. This is the United States of America, and we’re entitled to water that is liquid.”
