Ojai school district OKs tentative pink slips (April 16, 2009) - Tyler Suchman
From the VC Star... [City Recreation Director Dale] Sumersille hopes to go out to bid on the project this summer, with the Ojai Unified board taking action on the plan in May. On Wednesday, however, trustees said the plans were being presented to them for the first time and they voiced several concerns.

The following guest editorial is from Ojai Valley resident Sunday Rylander. Sometimes I can't believe how long of a journey this has been, but it looks like we are finally reaching the end of the process to get the skate park built in Ojai.

Skate Park Comes In Over Budget (October 16, 2008) - Tyler Suchman
The skate park design that was presented October 1 included some bonus features which would add up to around $200,000 more than the city and Skate Ojai had to spend. Fingers are being pointed all around (OVN), but really, its imperative that everyone talk this through and make the project happen for the kids in our community.

OVN covers the latest on the Ojai Skate Park... If the Ojai’s skate park is being built for local skateboarders, then the skaters themselves should be involved in critiquing the park’s design, planning commissioners agreed at Wednesday night’s planning meeting.

As our small community moves forward with the skate park, our young people have the opportunity to learn about civic engagement and democracy - two critical philosophies to teach our children. And once the skate park is built, the importance of physical exercise - something sorely missing from many people's lives. This workshop gives skaters and interested parties the opportunity to talk to Skatepark Architect, SITE Design Group, Inc. and provide input for the design of the new Ojai Skate Park.

Skate Park Approved (August 19, 2008) - Kenley Neufeld
Jubilation erupted at the close of the two-in-half hour joint Ojai City Council, Ojai Planning Commission, and Ojai Parks and Recreation Commission meeting tonight. The Ojai City Council approved moving forward with an "in ground skate park that is a minimum of 10,000 square feet at the current location." The vote was unanimous and next week a design firm will be selected.

City Council Special Joint Meeting Agenda Posted (August 15, 2008) - evan austin
The City Council will meet on Tuesday, August 19th in a special joint meeting with the Commissions on Planning and Parks & Recreation at 7:30pm, where the main agenda item is discussion of the Skate Park project.

Pro Skater Rodney Mullen Set to Skate For the Green (May 20, 2008) - Chris T. Wilson
The Ojai Recreation Department and Skate Ojai proudly presents “SKATE FOR THE GREEN” Saturday, May 31 from 12 noon until 4:00 with a FREE skateboarding movie at 5:30 pm. This is a FUNdraising event at the Park n Ride lot (414 E. Ojai Avenue), to celebrate skateboarding, the environment, our Ojai youth and to raise money for our new skate park.

Local resident offers to match funds for Skate Ojai (May 1, 2008) - Leslie Davis
This week, an Ojai resident agreed to donate up to $50,000 in matching funds for a permanent, in-ground skate park in Ojai. This means Skate Ojai is only $72,000 from their goal of $350,000. The donations must be collected by June 30 to FINALLY make the permanent skate park a reality.
