A Call to Fine Artists: Art in the Park Now Accepting Exhibitor Applications

Deadline is March 30, 2012

OJAI, CA — Art in the Park has enjoyed a long tradition of displaying high quality art in a lovely setting.  The Ojai Art Center, the hub of artistic expression in the community, is inviting all fine artists to apply for entry in the 35th annual juried fine art show. Accepted categories include; oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, glass, wood, photography, sculpture, ceramics, fine jewelry, and mixed media. Prizes include $500 for the Best of Show, $300 for the Award of Excellence, $200 for the Award of Distinction, and $100 each for three Honorable Mentions. Special High School Student Art Awards are added to the show this year. Application deadline is March 30th, 2012

Nestled amongst the oaks in beautiful Libbey Park (downtown Ojai, California), a natural setting is created to showcase the rich mixture of works in a variety of mediums. The festival attracts artists and art lovers of all ages from all over California and surrounding states to enjoy fine art, food and music in a relaxed atmosphere.

Back by popular demand:

  • Young Patrons Gallery – the tented gallery is devoted exclusively to children and features artwork donated by local artists. Docents help children experience the thrill of selecting their first piece of art in a gallery-like setting.
  • Music Venue – fine art goes hand-in-hand with fine music, relax under the oaks while listening to some of the best musicians in the area.
  • Hands-on Art Workshops and Demonstrations taught by local artists for both the young and old art lovers.

Some new activities have been added to help celebrate Art in the Park’s 35th Anniversary:

  • High School Student Exhibition Area – Art in the Park provides high school art students the opportunity to interact with the public and sell their art pieces. Students gain great real-life experience creating their displays, marketing their works and making what is often their first (of many!) sale. There will be special juried categories and awards for High School artists.
  • Food Lounge – Take in the local flavor by tasting some fun and fancy culinary treats.

Make your plans now to take part in the traditional opening weekend of summer. Enjoy the beautiful, casual surroundings and mingle with patrons from all over the country who visit Ojai on Memorial Day Weekend (May 26th and 27th).

For artist applications or further information about Art in the Park, call (805) 646-0117, email ojaiartcenter@aol.com or go to the Art in the Park page online at http://www.ojaiartcenter.org/art-in-the-park/ and click “download the application”. Local High Schools who would like to participate should call or email The Ojai Art Center by March 30th.

I may be naive, but this issue of Organic Bytes looks more like Organic Bites to me.

I have inserted above a copy of the top of today’s e-mail from the Organic Consumers Association (OCA). Please note that in the headline we are told that Monsanto and Big Ag are “Trying to Kill You”. While I firmly believe that Monsanto and Big Ag are sickening us, killing many of us, and a major threat to our national and global security, I do not believe that they are “Trying to Kill” us.

Note the first paragraph, “Energy-intensive industrial farming practices that rely on toxic chemicals and genetically engineered crops are not just undermining public health, they’re destroying the planet.” I couldn’t agree more.

“Trying to Kill You” is just untrue. Stating things like this weakens, or kills the credibility of those of us who work toward a healthy and sustainable food system and planet.

What do you bet I will get called a traitor? What do you be I’ll get called worse things? But it won’t kill me.

I am grateful to the OCA and to every other organization and person that works to create a safer and more just life for all.

From the always awesome Ojai Valley Green Coalition (flyer after the jump)…

Save Energy, Save Money and Save the Planet

The Ojai Valley Green Coalition invites you to its winter community gathering on Friday, February 10. Mingle with neighbors, share a potluck supper and start the new year right with the evening’s program focused on “How to Save Energy, Save Money and Save the Planet”.

Coalition Built Environment Council members will discuss all types of programs available to Ojai renters, homeowners and businesses to conserve energy through building and appliance efficiency and explain how you can easily switch to renewable energy. “This will also kick off our new ‘Ojai Energy Efficiency Initiative’ recently funded by The Gas Company and Southern California Edison,” said Built Environment Council Chair, Shawn Jacobson.
According to Jacobson, the Coalition is using the funds to spread the word on energy programs to help Ojai move toward a “Net Zero” community – producing as much energy as we use.

“The idea is an evening out with good food and good people,” said Deborah Pendrey, OVGC Executive Director, “while giving the community information they can use and possibly would not otherwise know existed.”

Hosted by the Coalition at the Chaparral Auditorium, 414 E. Ojai Ave., the evening will begin with a meet and greet from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m., food sharing from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., followed by the energy presentation. There will also be information tables to learn about many of the Coalition’s activities. Come share and celebrate our winter’s bounty with your favorite salad, entrée, or dessert featuring seasonal, local and organic ingredients. To reduce our landfill waste, please bring your own table service (plate, silverware, mug, and cloth napkin). To RSVP or for more information email ojaiculinaryclub@gmail.com or call (805) 669-8445.

This is not I “blinked” as in a showdown, but I “BLINCt” as in a show up.

I was invited to speak this Monday evening to, and with a group, 25 as it turned out, of Ojai teens, from 15-18 years old, about health. The event was a weekly gathering of BLINC (Building Lives Inc), a program of the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation (OCYF).

The evening program included dinner, readings of original writings by members, my talk and a Q&A session. We talked about what doctoring is, about the major factors that influence health and disease, and about how fortunate they are to be able to consider health at their age. I demonstrated some chiropractic evaluation and some spinal manipulation. A few teens told me that they were going to take my suggestion and try removing dairy products from their diets to see if they felt better.

I was so impressed with these young people! their writings! their intelligence! their maturity! their behavior! their questions! I was also impressed with the OVYF program director, Meg Wall, who coordinated and moderated the gathering! She obviously has the trust and respect of the participants.

The impression that I have of BLINC is that it is an invitation to local youth to show up to meet others and to better know themselves in a setting in which each individual is valued and respected. What an opportunity!

I love teens and I love health! It was a great evening!

I’m so glad I showed up. So glad I BLINCt.

(Special to the Ojai Post)

“In a neat little town they call Belfast, apprenticed to trade I was bound …”

during the ’90s, a decade after I had left UC Space Sciences and done the California Senate and Space Station — after spending the ’80s becoming a ‘gee whiz’ expert on all the kosher, politically-correct, Space Transportation technologies of Laser Launch, Coaxial Electromagnetic Launch, Railgun Launch, Big Dumb Boosters, VTOVL, HTOL (Aerospace Planes) — during the ’90s, at Stanford, when I wasn’t writing The Undiscovered Physics, when I wasn’t supporting HMX Corp, I plied my trade writing business plans for all those Space Transport systems, accompanied by 10-50 Year Market Assessments/Forecasts, looking ahead and anticipating the scale and diversity of the Cis-Lunar, Mars System, and Interplanetary Aerospace Industry infrastructure growth.

“And many an hour sweet happiness, I spent in that neat little town.
‘Til sad misfortune came over me, which caused me to stray from the land.
Far away from me friends and relations, betrayed by the black velvet band …”

by the time I had published the Undiscovered Physics, and had moved to Aotearoa (New Zealand) I had begun writing REVERSE Market Assessments, estimating the scope and application of the (black gov’t, ‘blue’ corporate, sector) Space Infrastructure ‘MIC’ (the Military Industrial Complex) developed over the past 5-6 decades! [Which, overview, I did not publish until last year, 2011.]

THIRD ROCKEFELLER FROM THE SUN …

“I took a stroll with this pretty fair maid, and a gentleman passing us by.
I knew she meant the doing of me, by the look in her roguish black eye.
A goldwatch she took from his pocket and placed it right in to my hand.
And the very first thing that I thought was, ‘Bad luck to the black velvet band’ …”

then arrived the first decade of the New Millennium, and a whole world come together in anguish, combat, dialog about the infinite extent of the Mob$ter Bank$ter Military Corporate $ecurity $tate … and the last few years leading up to 2012, and every gang$ter facade shattered, every institutional Theatre of Disinfo revealed … a World Divided, between those who would extend and further the ignorance, the servitude, the global cultural genocide, the planetwide rape of the Sacred, Living, our Mother Earth — and those who would END the Covert Combat $tate, END their Downward-Spiraling of the Economy, END the Vanishing of HeartMind, Consciousness, Respect, Spirituality, Discernment, Enlightenment … to BEGIN a TenFold Expansion of our Global Economy, accomplished in Honour and Collaboration amongst all Cultures … BEGIN a Hundred-Fold Expansion of our Global Wealth, accomplished in an Economy of REFORESTATION, returning the Sacred, BioDiversity of the Forests, the Rainforests, the Rivers, the Wetlands, the Aquasphere, the Mycosphere, the Once-Living Ocean and Atmosphere …

in the U$ alone, today, Millions are employed by the Aerospace Industry in our genocide- and ecocide-based predatory rape & pillage economy — tens of millions employed by the Defense Sector, and the Security State — on the order of a hundred million more by Corporate Industry in general, the Cancer, the Borg …

POMES (PRISONERS OF MOTHER EARTH)

“Now before a judge and a jury, next morning I had to appear.
Oh the judge he says to me: ‘Young man, your case it is proven clear.
We’ll give you seven years penal servitude, to be spent faraway from the land.
Far away from your friends and companions, betrayed by the black velvet band’ …”

of those, as of today, the buzz is (our best estimate is) that half-a-million to a million are currently employed, or imprisoned, or stationed, in-situ, between the Cis-Lunar System and the Mars/Phobos/Deimos System infrastructures, with only a few percent of the total distributed in Venus orbit, amongst other planetary orbits, and less than a hundred sent to the most remote MIC-Rockefeller $tate outpost of Alpha Centauri …

LANDED IN BANDYMAN’S LAND …

“So come all ya jolly young fellows and a warning take by me.
When you are out on the town me lads, beware of them pretty colleens.
For they feed you with strong drink, ‘Oh yah’, ’til you are unable to stand.
And the very next thing that you know, me lads, is you’ve landed in Bandyman’s Land …”

the consumer-media MIC-Aerospace Mars-Penal-Colony disinfo campaign, led by the Marsgate, Wilcock, Prometheus, Exopolitics, and other slime-factions — hyped by Wired Magazine — and now trumpeted/represented by Princess Kaoru Nakamaru, in the wake of Japan’s new military and economic independence from the RockefellerU$, recalls the puppetmaster hands of the Crown, Monarchy, and Rothschilds and their theatre-histories of ‘Transportation’, Slave-Prison Sentencing/Banishment to the North American Colonies, and later to Van Diemen’s land, Tasmania, Australia …

according to Nakamaru-Sama, in 2012 the population of the Earth will be separated into two divisions, and one of them shipped off to another planet!

which immediately brings to mind the global ‘Occupy’ movement, targeting the homeless and unemployed, the combative, quarrelsome and ‘uncontrollable’ — calling attention to themselves as subjects for ‘MIC-Transportation’ …

RETURNED SONGLINE, 2012, OF ALL KNOWING …

“Her eyes they shone like diamonds.
I thought her the Queen of the land.
And her hair hung over her shoulder.
Tied up with a black velvet band …”

PR from Supervisor Steve Bennett’s office:

Following the Ojai City Council’s decision to withdraw from Gold Coast Transit, a period of painful readjustment has been in store for both Ojai Valley transit riders and the other member agencies of Gold Coast Transit who would have to absorb portions of the reallocated costs.

Gold Coast Transit Route 16, which connects Ventura to Ojai, is the second most heavily used bus route in Ventura County, carrying 320,000 passengers in 2011. Prior to the City’s truncation of the route in 2009, the downtown Ojai park-and-ride stop was the most heavily used stop on Route 16.

Supervisor Steve Bennett said: “Serving transit dependent persons and helping get people out of their cars has long been a high priority for me and for the residents of the Ojai Valley. Fortunately, the County has enough State transportation money available to bridge this funding gap, and to improve regional transit by restoring bus service to downtown Ojai. What was getting lost in all this was the riders, and we need to put them on the bus first.”

Supervisor Bennett presented his proposal to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, January 24th, and it was approved by a unanimous vote. Supervisor Bennett said: “This one just made sense. The Board saw that rather than chopping up a successful transit line and transferring the cost to other agencies through a complicated restructuring of a regional agency, the best way to serve the taxpayers was for the County to step in and cover the cost for a couple of years.”

State legislation adopted in 2010 requires that all State “Transportation Development Act” funds be spent on transit starting in year 2014. The Ventura County Transportation Commission has been leading a countywide study of transit service in response to this mandate, and the opportunities that it presents to improve regional transit service in Ventura County. The County’s cost of the Ojai bus service can be absorbed within the unexpended County transit funds. Coordination of Ojai Valley bus and trolley schedules and stops will be worked out cooperatively between the County and the City over the coming months to assure that riders can smoothly transfer between the bus and trolley. The result of these actions will be greatly improved transit services in the Ojai Valley, as bus service will again reach the downtown park and ride while trolley hours will be extended.

At the January 24th Ojai City Council meeting, Steve Offerman informed the City Council of the approval of Supervisor Bennett’s proposal by the Board, noting that the City’s approval of extended trolley hours and the resumption of bus service to downtown Ojai will together result in the Ojai Valley receiving the best transit service it has ever had.
