Profile

Graduating from the University of Illinois, Fred began his career as a CPA. For sixteen years he was president of Rothenberg Health Systems, a California firm that developed and marketed software for the healthcare industry. Now retired and living in the Upper Ojai, he devotes his time to Help of Ojai, the Ojai Valley Library Friends and Foundation, and his beautiful wife, Ila.

Fred started into serious photography as a teenager. He likes photographing people and scenes that tell a story. He has participated in several Ojai Art Center exhibits and regularly displays his photos at the Ojai Library Bookstore. In 2006 he had a two month, one-man show at the Hummingbird Inn of Ojai. Fred regularly does pro bono photo work for the Ojai Music Festival and Help of Ojai. Several of his photos are on permanent display at the Ojai Community Hospital.

In 2007 he and Ila produced Faces of Help of Ojai, a book of photographs and words that highlight the efforts of senior volunteers.

He currently has a one man photo show at Ojai City Hall scheduled to run through March 13, 2009.

Make no exceptions

by Fred Rothenberg September 28, 2010

The morning started out peacefully enough.  Dragged myself down the hill to Help of Ojai, a little early expecting the Highway 150 road slurrying to delay me.  But it was even too hot for slurrying.

Checked out the tires, arranged the seatbelts and cleaned windows on the Help bus.…

The National Pastime

by Fred Rothenberg July 11, 2010

I’ve been a Cub fan ever since my cousin Leonard got me hooked on them in the fourth grade.

I guess calling myself a Cub ”fan” is a bit of a stretch.  I discovered that yesterday when Sweetie and I went to our first Dodger game in twenty…

by Fred Rothenberg July 1, 2010

Headed down the hill today to visit John Long at Ojai Valley Imports.  Time for an oil change.  John was a bit scruffier looking than usual but, in his happy way, greeted me with ”Hi Fred, how you been?”  For whatever reason, I still think…

It’s easy to say “no”

by Fred Rothenberg June 26, 2010

Thank goodness.  Congress is on the verge of passing a financial reform bill.  Like real people, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd stayed up late to push the damn thing over the finish line…even though nary a Republican felt inclined to be associated with it.

No more shuddering when I…
