Mountain Lion on East End

by Tyler Suchman on February 16, 2014

Thanks to reader Lisa Griffiths…

Mountain Lion spotted in an orchard at Ladera and Ladera Ranch Road, near Thacher and Carne – around 10am Sunday morning. It appears to have attacked overnight. It got into a 5 foot stock-fenced horse corral and killed and pulled out a 70 pound goat overnight Saturday 2/15. This is in a residential area on Thacher Rd in the East End.

Local agencies are on site, but we’ve been told by Fish & Game that they are just waiting for it to leave – because if they tranquilize it and move it they can only take it 20 miles anyway.

Please encourage people in the area – walking, running, biking – to use great caution and keep animals close.

Crazy! 20 miles away is a better than “waiting for it to leave.” 20 miles via truck is a lot faster than 20 miles on foot.

It’s not crazy at all. 20 miles is nothing to a mountain lion. People need to make sure their animals are protected properly, especially at night. Bravo to Fish and Wildlife for doing the right thing.
