by evan austin on August 11, 2011

NPP_web_ad_justiceEach year on or around International Peace Day (September 21), the Ojai Peace Coalition awards its exclusive Noble Peace Prize to one person or entity in the Ojai Valley who works for and exhibits cultural Peace.

We seek to define PEACE not as an end-goal or an idealistic path, but a clear and practical collection of philosophies, tools, and strategies for honoring life, exploring and encouraging human potential, and resolving conflicts without violence.

Nominations for the 2011 award are open now! CLICK HERE TO NOMINATE YOUR FAVORITE PEACEMAKER.

Past honorees include Clive & Marion Leeman of the Ojai Peace Vigil, Tara Blasco & Lyn Hebenstreit of Global Resource Alliance, Sally Carless of Global Village School, and John Broesamle of Ojai Valley Defense Fund.

It is my experience that the Austins and the Ojai Peace Coalition are a gift to our community. Most of us desire harmony; they gently work to create it in their own lives and in our community. I am grateful.

Peace is not merely the absence of war.

Thank you, Kris! Lifting up those who gently and quietly work to create Peace is a big part of the point of the Noble Peace Prize…we have all too few examples in our society of what peacemakers look like and what they do, and framing peacemakers as our heroes is part of creating a Culture of Peace. Ironically, most peacemakers are gentle and quiet, which is at odds with the spotlit concept of “hero”. :)
