I came across an article on the percolating battle between Lois Capps (D) and Abel Maldonado (R) for the newly drawn CA-24 congressional district.
That led me to the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, which has nearly final maps which will be voted on August 15th.
Ojai is slated to be part of CA-26, which is largely a consolidated Ventura County. This would be a much tougher race for Elton Gallegly, given that CA-26 includes some heavily Democratic areas including Oxnard. And as I wrote in June, “Gallegly would be hard-pressed to run against Buck McKeon in Santa Clarita.”

Who are the favorites for CA-26? Could Steve Bennett be weighing a run? Timm Herdt at the VC Star weighs in:
No incumbent lives in that proposed district, which would favor a Democrat. Mitchell’s analysis shows it with a 12 percentage-point Democratic advantage in voter registration and that Brown carried the district by 6 points last fall.
At least three prominent Democrats have expressed an interest in running for that seat, including former Assembly members Hannah-Beth Jackson and Pedro Nava of Santa Barbara and Oxnard Harbor District Commissioner Jason Hodge of Oxnard.
Looks like we’ll see some new names on the ubiquitous yard signs come 2012…

It’s about time Gallegly rides off into the sunset so we can elect someone who has the district’s best interests at heart.
It’s about time Gallegly rides off into the sunset and we elect someone who actually has the best interests of the district at heart.
