Part Two:Day20 ofmy Juice Feast and E-Bike Adventure

Day 14 going on 15, Sunday, October 31, 2010
Halloween. Day 14 going on Day 15 of my Juice Feast. After last night’s mystical walk slept deep. Woke up early. Sunday morning organic oranges into the juicer for a fun frothy drink. Not hungry at all. My energy level is nice and even. Mid morning juiced celery, carrot with one apple … Have a writing deadline and when I can’t concentrate anymore I juice small batches of chard with a few carrots. Am liking the greens more and more…

Day 15/16 Monday November 1,

Day 15 going on Day 16 of my Juice Feast and all is well. Sent my editorial on the proposed Lake Casitas Chain-link Fence to the OVN at 7am. Kept things simple and made two cups celery, carrot, apple juice. My daughter Monica was headed down Rice Road so she brought the piggies two days worth of pulp which I store in the refrigerator so it stays fresh. There was only one problem as I headed on my E-bike from the riverbottom to Bryant Street…

The problem was that my bike charger had gotten wet in the unexpected rain the other night. And alas, two days ago when I tried to recharge the battery I heard a “pop” sound that sounded like a short. I can ride my bike just fine without the E assist but I had a 10 am class to teach and only 25 minutes to get there…

Honey, my Aussie dog, was already waiting in the bike cart. I didn’t have the heart to leave her. I prayed I had enough charge left to get me up the first hill and out of the riverbottom. Thankfully, there was enough charge left to soar all the way down Highway 33, up Cuyama, through the Arbolada, down Aliso/Ojai Avenue to Bryant street in about 22 minutes…

After yoga cycled to Rainbow Bridge. On the waythe E assist ran out. I just kept pedalling. Met Dale and Christine at the Rainbow and sipped a large beet, carrot, and green juice plus a cup of Green Goddess juice while my friends ate lunch. Bicycled on my own power to Project Ride bike shop on El Roblar to have Kelly check the charger…man my dog is heavy without the E assist!

To finish up the Juice Feast saga, Day 15/16: When I got home rested in Legs Up the Wall Pose. Then could not resist juicing my first pineapple, skin and all. Yum! Did a bunch of desk work. 5pm made beautiful green/red juice from beet tops, one beet, a bunch of slender carrots and one green and one red apple. Then a walk in nature with Honey. Now will juice chard, beet tops, beets, carrots…just to have on hand.

Day 16, Tuesday, November 2 (lElection Day)

Day 16 going on Day 17 of my Juice Feast journey. Decided to add variety by starting the day with water and fresh organic lemon. Later juiced beet tops and more beet tops (they outlasted the beets) with carrots and one apple, as an experiment. Gonna spend the evening with friends watching elections so came home to juice chard and more chard and carrots and one apple…

Day 17 , Wednesday morning November 3, 2010
I’m so happy about my nephew Das Williams winning his State Assembly seat tears are running down my cheeks… a great way to celebrate Day 17 of my Juice Feast! My middle sister Yanna (his mother) called to sayDasgets sworn in on December 6th, in Sacramento…wow!

Last night I dreamed I was having lunch with someone and suddenly, as I was eating a sandwich or something, I remembered I was on a Juice Feast…what a relief when I woke up Day 17 that it was just a dream! Was surrounded by food last night but all was well, I just sipped the celery and apple juice I brought along and… later, as the evening wore on watching election results, I made some orange juice….

Slipping into Day 18 of my Juice Feast. Up at 5 am, juiced a few oranges the old-fashioned way…took a hike with dogs up Horn Canyon… drank water…noon made carrot and celery juice … 2pm made some more to take to a meeting… drove my car for the first time in weeks so Honey could stay with a friend and not have …to wait in the heat…Brought the piggies their pulp… now going to sleep…listening to the wind…

Day 18,Thursday, 5:22 am, November 4

Day 18 of my Juice Feast. Coyotes howling, Honey barking woke me up very early and I remembered I had fallen asleep without having any evening juice. So juiced some carrots, one cucumber and one apple…so delicious! Just now made the same refreshing combo…cooling cucumber is perfect for this new wave of hot weather…

Thursday night
The evening of Day 19 of Juice Feasting. Everything is so quiet and peaceful I almost don’t feel like running the juicer again. The fridge is packed with beets, carrots, celery, chard, parsley, cilantro, cucumbers and a sad looking cabbage that I have not had the heart to juice yet. Maybe will try it tomorrow… A bowl… of red and green apples, the best, juiciest, local organic oranges, a ginger root… and a lemon…

Day 19, Friday, November 5,

Day 19 of my Juice Feast with Day 20 beckoning ’round the bend…Last night I got carried away. It was like I had a five-course meal; an appetizer (beet, carrot, apple) a main-course (parsley, celery, carrot) a side-dish (beet, celery, carrot) and later dessert (red and green apples). The beautiful bouquet of washed …green chard with glowing red stems sat untouched…so this morning is austere. Just lemon and water.

Day 19 almost Day 20 of my Juice Journey…mid morning juiced the beautiful chard I overlooked last night, with just enough carrot to make it yummy. Cleaning my writer’s hut from top to bottom. Coaxed a zillion spiders back into the great outdoors. Mid day juiced a cucumber, carrots and one red apple. Tasted so good that mid afternoon I juiced two more cucumbers, a few carrots and two red apples…

Day 20, Saurday, November 6

4 am Good morning Day 20 of my Juice Journey! Still amazed that I don’t wake up hungry!

Moving deeper into Day 20 of my Juice Feast. At 4 am had a warm cleansing lemon drink. Answered an avalanche of E-mail. Sunrise walk with Honey in the river bed. Hooked the dog cart up to my E-bike and loaded up two days of pulp for the piggies. Realized I better fortify myself so made carrot and celery juice. Then bicycled out of the riverbottom, flying down Rice Road…felt like the wind might sweep us up into the sky…

After I dropped of the pig’s pulp, took a new route to the Y. Zoomed with Honey in the cart down Rice to HWY 150, turned left and headed for the bike trail. A vigorous ride past the vast open space behind Krotona, glorious views of the mountains and sky…pulled into the Y parking lot, past Eggs ‘n’ Things, secured Honey and bike around a post and entered The Land of Vons…

To continue on with Day 20 of my Juice adventure…Walking through Vons reminded me of that last scene in the Hurt Locker where the soldier is in the aisles of the supermarket, gazing at hundreds of brands of cereal… I got cat chow, greenTP, floss, etc., stashed everything in my duffel bag, untied Honey and E-bikecycled up Highway 33, down El Roblar to Rice and coasted back home to my hut in the riverbottom…
