NOBLE Peace Prize: Time To VOTE!

by evan austin on September 7, 2010

The nominees are in for the 2010 NOBLE Peace Prize…now it’s time to VOTE!

[PLEASE NOTE!] In the spirit of “being the change we wish to see”, this is an Instant Runoff Voting system designed to give voters more choice, and wherein THE NUMBER ONE is your FIRST CHOICE. Some issues with the voting system have been noted: specifically, an error message that warns of the need for a “unique entry”. i’m working on fixing this. If you have voted but received an error, and are concerned about whether your vote was submitted properly, you can email me your IP Address and i can verify whether i’ve received a vote from your computer.

Isn’t it John “Azevedo”?

I tried to cast my vote for the Noble Peace Prize. The vote was not counted. The highlighted explanation was that the rank of the number I chose was already taken and that I needed a “unique entry.” This is not what I would call a user friendly way to poll.

Sholom, thanks for letting me know about the potential technical problem. The “unique entry” item is meant to prevent you from voting 3, for example, on every person. You should only be able to enter each number once.

So far, i show seven votes. the only identifying info i have for the vote-casters is their IP address. if you want to verify that your vote got through and you know that number, you can email me.

It’s nice that people promote peace and talk about the virtues of peace, but the people who are responsible for our peace and our freedom are not politicians or the eloquent poets, it is our soldiers who put their lives on the line for the rest of us. I would like to nominate a local soldier Mike Lenehan for the peace prize.

Brian, you show your frame once again to be terribly narrow.

That, and you haven’t been paying attention AT ALL. The nominating period already ended, and we’re into the voting now. Try to keep up.

Worked fine for me, but several people I know can’t get it to accept their submission – it says the value has already been taken.

yes, that is the same message a friend of mine got -evan is trying to fix it.

i think i’ve addressed the technical issues, so i’d love some feedback from the next several voters as to how it worked for them!

thanks,

this “thing” is imperfect, and it’s constantly evolving. it’s been a slightly different system and process each year, with improvements each time that move it into closer alignment with the values of democracy and transparency. The fabulous thing is that we can’t go wrong, because all of the nominees so far have been incredible people doing great work for peace, and it is my honor to highlight ALL of their work, regardless of whom is chosen for the award.

Thanks for putting this together, Evan! When will you announce the recipient(s)? I nominated one of these amazing people, but he doesn’t know it. :-)

CJ, thank you SO MUCH for making a nomination! The most amazing part of this for me is to “discover” neighbors who are doing great work and having the opportunity to shine a light of gratitude on them!

I have sent an email out to all the nominees, informing them of their nomination, but not by whom! That’s new this year; in the past I’ve only informed the awardee(s) of their honor, but this time I opted for broader transparency. We can appreciate ALL these powerful contributions!

Regarding when to announce the awardee: that’s a great question, and one that I’ll put to the community:

WHEN and HOW do you think the awardee should be made publicly known?

In the past, I’ve kept their identities secret until the moment of awarding, in an “the envelope please” kind of mystery. Is that exciting, or would it be more of a draw if you knew who was getting it?

I think that however you do it will be great, Evan. It’s always easier to complain than it is to thank, so I just appreciate that you’ve provided an opportunity for the community to recognize and to thank some of its outstanding members.
