very sad news! i have enjoyed Marty’s enthusiasm as a driving force behind our local Locally Grown concerts, and very fondly remember she and the small Food For Thought group marching just behind/with the Ojai Peace Coalition in last year’s Independence Day parade. i am hoping to attend the celebration on Sunday.
Our lives are over all too quickly! It is a sad commentary on the values of the world that smoking is still blatantly promoted, especialy in countries like Indonesia, as I saw firsthand some years ago.
Even though Marty’s Light will shine on in the lives she touched, and the work she started will continue, it is tragic and unfair that she died so soon.
I did not even know she had cancer. She has done so much for the community. Her Food for Thought program in the schools taught kids and their parents the importance of healthy eating. She will be missed.
What a beautiful spirit, what a great gift to the Ojai Valley, what a dear friend. A candle is burning for you in my new home, under the beautiful Tibetan Flag you made for me when I left Ojai. As you said to me, I say to you – “Jelamat Selan, Marty! Aku Akan Rindu Kamu!”
I am so sad to read of our losing Marty. What a loss for Ojai. And I am particularly sad for her lovely girls Dana and Taylor. My best to her family. Marty will be missed.
My husband and I had the privilege of spending time with the Cook/Fujita clan this past holiday season in Indonesia. Marty had an insatiable drive to experience nature, life, friendship, and love. She seemed to see life as an amazing gift and refused to waste a moment. We were all drawn to her dynamic energy, an energy that defies even the Fujita scale. She lived her convictions and challenges us to do the same. We miss her and send our love to Chuck, Dana and Taylor.
Rest in peace dear Marty…you will always be our Queen… with love and condolences for your family,
