Locavore Lite 2010 ~ What it is ~
Locavore Lite 2010 is a fresh, fun, healthy, Ventura County-based, local-food project which welcomes participants from our County and from around the world. The project is designed to increase public awareness of the importance and availability of local farm produce, by encouraging residents to involve themselves in their local food system. A major objective of the project is to reduce global warning.
A locavore is a person who eats food that is grown or raised locally. The term Locavore Lite suggests a form of local eating that is so easy, that anyone can do it.

Suza, thank you so much for posting to the Ojai Post! The biggest thing we need for Locavore Lite 2010 is help; help getting the word out, help getting farmers and businesses and public agencies to sign on and endorse the project. As you know, we can have a big impact on our own lives and on the world in which we live!

Our thanks to Suza for cross-posting the article from the Ventura County Star!
We are so grateful to the community of the Ojai Valley and the larger community of Ventura County for the support and encouragement that we received during this challenging project, Eat Local One Year, that we undertook throughout 2009 to eat in a hardcore locavore manner!
Nine of us completed the project;Laurel Felice of Ojai, Lucy Ford Martin of Ojai, Dan Martin of Ojai, Rachel Morris of Ventura, Carol Nierman of Westlake Village, Kathy Nolan of Ojai, Gloria Roman of Oxnard, Joanne Young of Ojai, and Kristofer Young of Ojai.
We all hope that each of you will sign up to participate in Locavore Lite 2010. This project is gentle and easy for participants. Even families with small children will sail through it. Here is what you commit to:
1) Commit for the year of 2010, starting at least by 4/1/2010,
2) On at least one occasion, give thought to where your non-local food comes from,
3) a minimum of 12 times in 2010, do one, or any combination of the following: a) shop at a farmers’ market, b) receive produce from a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farmer, c) harvest food from a local farm, garden or yard,
4) eat at least 3 all-local-food meals during 2010.
Please ask your farmer or farmers to sign up to participate and share online what they will have for us this year!
With care for our health and our community,
Joanne and Kristofer Young
