Safe and Happy New Year’s Eve, Ojai!

by Tyler Suchman on December 31, 2009

Dear Ojai -
You’re the best. Have a great time tonight, drive safely, hug your friends, love your family and get ready for a great 2010. May you have prosperity, good health and compassion towards others. May you accomplish your goals, release your traumas and kick the habit. May you do business with integrity, responsibility and cooperation. May you invest your time and money locally. May you laugh out loud every day. Here’s to big things for the Ojai Post, the Ojai community, our world and the greater good in the new year.
xoxo,
Tyler

what wonderful wishes for us all, Tyler!
Just a fun reminder: Twenty-Ten is the LAST year of this decade, since when measuring with “years” a ten-part series is 1-10, not 0-9 (there was no Year 0). So, this is our outgoing year of the first decade of the millenium…make it count!

Yeah, evan, I get that, but try telling 6 billion people that December 31, 1999 wasn’t the end of the millennium.

haha, yeah, i know. drama versus fact, fantasy versus truth. we all know which one usually wins out. i say celebrate what you want, make meaning out of what you want, but don’t lose sight of the truths that exist regardless.

…peace and love, ojai pacifists. Really, I’m serious.
But honestly, did the events in the air above Detroit on Christmas day mean anything to you?
We’re at war. Wake up.

And we’re supposed to do what? Panic?
The Odds of Airborne Terror

The odds of being on given departure which is the subject of a terrorist incident have been 1 in 10,408,947 over the past decade. By contrast, the odds of being struck by lightning in a given year are about 1 in 500,000. This means that you could board 20 flights per year and still be less likely to be the subject of an attempted terrorist attack than to be struck by lightning.
