"One City" Thanksgiving
Families and individuals alike are invited to gather around a table and share a meal with their Venturan neighbors as the city hosts its second annual "One City" Thanksgiving Day celebration.
The event will run from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday November 27th at the Knights of Columbus, 36 Figueroa Street as well as into Figueroa Plaza and Mission Park.
The day will feature traditional Thanksgiving fare, performances by local musicians and smiling faces from across the social spectrum.
Serving will be continuous (until the food runs out!) starting from 11:00 AM. There is no cost for attending.
This all-volunteer event is hosted by a collective of faith, business, non-profit and government organizations all working together for a better Ventura. The Faith Communities Subcommittee of the Ventura Social Services Task Force (VSSTF) organized the event and their involvement in our community continues 365 days a year – for more information please visit www.onecityventura.org.
Last yearʼs event saw nearly 900 meals served to over 600 people. People of all kinds, from those on the economic fringe to our most prominent politicians and everyone in between.
"In the traditions of old this day is about generosity and sharing, about one sharing a table with another," according to Jesse Giglio, Mission Pastor at Ventura Missionary. “Itʼs not a hand out but an expression of solidarity.”
"We expect this celebration to include representatives from all of Ventura, friendly faces both young and old, rich and poor, tall and short, east and west, here and there" said VSSTF member Jack Broms, M.D., with a twinkle in his eye. "This is an event for all, in the best American tradition on this special day."
