Avary in Jail for Twittering
Screenwriter, director and producer Roger Avary was removed from the Ventura County Probation Agency’s Work Furlough Program and is jail after allegedly Twittering about his experiences behind bars. The 44-year-old Avary was sentenced in September to a year in jail and five years probation for drunken driving in 2008 and causing an Ojai accident that took the life of an Italian citizen who was visiting Avary and his wife.
Here are some of the tweets from the Twitter account that purports to be Avary’s:The most recent tweet was from Thursday night: “34 is “rolled up” to a higher security facility for exercising his first amendment rights. The truth he has discovered is too dangerous.”
On Nov. 2, the account’s author posted: “The breakfast oatmeal comes in large sacks with a picture of a horse on them and labeled “Not Intended for human consumptiion.”
On Nov. 24, the author posted: “#34’s new roomie, EZ, takes Yeyo’s old bunk, locker, AND number. He regales awesome tales about his former life as an Oxnard gangbanger.”

The question is: Did Avary know that he was not allowed to tweet, or not allowed to post about his jail experiences? If he knew, the behavior seems foolhardy. If he hadn't been informed of this no-no, the response seems draconian.
