What makes this Día de los Muertos in Ojai unique is the invitation to individuals, families, artists, organizations, faith communities, and diverse cultural groups to come and create ancestor memorials in their own style and tradition.

The Day of the Dead has its roots in Latin culture, nonetheless our vision is of a celebration that attracts the rich diversity of our community – celebrating with an event for all ages, all faiths, all backgrounds.

The reason:
So our youth can identify various traditions celebrated for festivals of the Dead throughout the world.

So they can find the similarities and differences between Halloween and Dia de los Muertos.

So they can recognize the work of Jose Guadalupe Posada, his images and his style.

To stimulate their curiosity in their own family tree, and begin gathering stories of their family’s history.
