PR: In Concert - Paddy Keenan and Fionn O Lochlainn
i receive press releases... sounds like a fun event.
In the mid-1970s The Bothy Band forever changed the face of Irish traditional music. One of the band’s founding members, and one of its driving forces, was uilleann piper Paddy Keenan. The virtuosity and ferocity of his playing led to his being described as “the Jimi Hendrix of the pipes”, and his style has continued to mature in the intervening years as he has pursued a solo career. Generally acknowledged as the most accomplished uilleann piper performing today, he is certainly one of the most brilliant musicians of his generation.
Multi-instrumentalist Fionn O Lochlainn has performed with acts as diverse as Seal, Joe Cocker, Sharon Shannon and Donal Lunny. Now living in New York, Fionn has released several critically albums, both with various bands and on his own. His work as a solo artist has been featured in the independent film Shooting Livien.
Paddy and Fionn will be appearing Thursday, September 17, 2009 at The Ojai Valley Women’s Club, 441 East Ojai Avenue, Ojai, CA at 7 pm; tickets are $15/$17. For further information and reservations, please call 805-665-8852.

Paddy and Fionn played a house concert at my house in Santa Cruz this past Saturday night and the show was wonderful. They are both amazing musicians. (I knew this about Paddy, of course, but Fionn was a special surprise.) It was a special evening. I only wish there had been more people to experience it. When the word spread the next day, several people told me, "Oh I am so sorry I wasn't there.? I hope you folks in Ojai will appreciate what is coming.
