Fire Redux: Help a Neighbor

by Tyler Suchman on September 24, 2009

from Carol Lynn Healy (who you may know as Enara):
Dear Ojai Friends and Family,
Last night a dear friend of mine and some of yours (Francis O’Neill) woke up to the sound of explosions as did others who live near Grand and Montgomery Street downtown. HIs neighbors house behind him was burning to the ground (paint cans in the garage were what was making the noise that sounded like gunshots). Good thing he heard them or he would not have woken up as the fire department was already on the scene so none of us heard sirens. Bad news is, the fence along the side of the property line where he was living as well as the carport along side the house (Katie’s house for those of you who know them) was totaled. Katie was not there as she recently moved up to Santa Cruz for school and Francis’s three children were with their Mom and not with Francis last night.

Unfortunately, Francis was preparing to move out soon and had several personal items in the carport. He is still looking for a place here in Ojai where he can have the three children several days a week. He had several things in the carport that were lost to the fire. Most importantly: his car is a goner with no insurance to cover the loss and he desperately needs one to get to his three jobs to support his kids. Besides his personal items in the carport, he also lost a massage table and a chair massage which he uses for work when he’s not on call for the Ojai Day Spa.
I’m writing to those of you who don’t even know him, (or even me that well), to tell you, that this person is truly a good, kind and gentle soul in need of help right now. He combines Reiki energy work with his massage and is also a great handyman. I’m hoping that together we can help him get a new massage table and a used car asap. My thought is that most of us can afford $10, $20 each, some of us less, some of us more, but that whatever you can do would go a long way in helping a fellow member of our community get back on his feet. So I’m asking you, if you can, to please take a moment, go into your heart and offer whatever you can. We all know how a little goes a long way, and if we all pitch in, I think we can really make a difference for this person and his life right now. And I’m confident that when we pay forward our own good fortune it keeps going out into the world with effects we may not ever see or hear about, but which none the less go a long way in making the world a better place!
Thanks for anything you can do. I’m looking into opening an account in Francis’s name at Ojai Valley Community Bank today and possibly seeing if the paper will print something but in the meantime, if you’d like to make a donation, please make your check out to Francis O’Neill and for now you can drop it off at my place or send it here: 313 N. Montgomery Street, Ojai, CA and I will make sure he gets it, either through this new account or personally. And please forward this to your contacts and ask them to help as well. I will let you all know when I do if it’s possible to get it in the paper with an official account set up at the bank.
Many thanks Ojai community! We can do anything! Love and Light,
Carol Lynn Healy

Carol, consider making a paypal account in his name? then people can just click & he can transfer the $$ directly into his acct.

FYI: At the moment there is an account set up in Francis O’Neill’s name at Chase Bank (the old Washington Mutual). Will set up a paypal account also and let everyone know when it’s done.
