A Houseguest

by Leigh Melander August 5, 2009

Last night, like most nights, I came home from playing with my horses. It was a bit late (I’d been watching the moon rise) and it was quite dark….
Upon my arrival I am greeted at the door by my dog Orion, wildly wagging his tail as he usually does when…

New Graywater Code

by Tyler Suchman August 4, 2009

reader Jack passed this on – the California Building Standards Commission passed a new graywater code, which is a good step in addressing unsustainable water resource consumption.
Half of all carbon emissions are from buildings. Buildings built to current codes are sucking the groundwater out from under California. Graywater permits are…

Ojai, California, 1972.
Suza and her first yoga teacher, Sarah Kirton, who is described in Yoga for People Over 50, (1977).
The first thing my 90-year old student asked me while she was on the floor stretching her legs was, “Do you have a boyfriend?”…

a beginning and ending …

SoverAnia, and the Circle of Goddess Moon
Twelve69.jpg
seems our Ojai past is a little blurry today … this family ‘snapshot’, as we used to say, from December 1969. Ojai Valley School as the backdrop, the Topa Topa bluffs in the far background.
I’m the one in the front row, kneeling with the…

About the Ojai Economy Group

by Tyler Suchman August 1, 2009

With the Ojai Economy Group receiving so much press, and with so many questions from the community about the group and its plans, I thought I would take the opportunity to share more about it. I’ll try to be as accurate as possible, but I don’t “represent” the OEG as…

Have you found your dSpot yet?

by Demitri Corbin August 1, 2009

July 10, 2009 Ojai, California*
I’m sitting in front of Jim & Rob’s just about to open up the Reporter and read Rob Brezny when my phone rings.
“Demitri, it’s Julie!”
“Hi.”
“I’m sorry I’m late. I’m at Jersey Mike’s still installing a dSpot box.”
“Okay, I’ll be right there.”
I hop on my bike and…

Shame on us…

by Fred Rothenberg August 1, 2009

I was rowing yesterday. Not on Lake Casitas. In the house on the rowing machine in front of the TV. It’s a chore that’s made bearable when there’s something good on the screen. Like news that’s actually news or a movie that I haven’t seen three or four hundred times.
I…
