Tim Baird is leaving OUSD
This is confirmed - Tim Baird will be replacing the retiring Superintendent in Encinitas, with an expected start in July.
I for one will really miss Tim. I have had the opportunity to work with him closely as a fellow board member of the Ojai Valley Green Coalition and on the steering committee of the Public Access Group and his heart, motivation and work ethic have always been top-notch. I'm disappointed I won't be able to work with him on a new project I am cooking up.
As superintendent of OUSD, Tim has been in the middle of some controversial issues that naturally result in supporters and detractors. I'd say it comes with the territory. If you're going to leave a comment, be respectful.

I'd have to agree with Tyler, I'll miss Dr. Baird as well. He has always been fair in our interactions, and I always felt that he held the best interests of Ojai's youth in his heart and his mind. Unfortunately, he inherited a one-two punch of a district with declining enrollment and a state budget decimated by Enron's gaming of energy deregulation, and partisan gridlock in Sacramento. As one of my colleagues pointed out, he was the first superintendent to really put OUSD on a "green" path towards greater sustainability. This is to be commended.
Right now sure seems like a tough time to find a new superintendent. With the greater communities unwillingness to support local education funding through the parcel tax, many right minded applicants will likely look elsewhere. Can we blame them? $30,000 a year to inprison, $6,000 a year to educate; how will the next generation view our priorities? Best of luck to our school board in their search.
Tim, we'll miss your humor and creativity.
Good Luck,
Jim Bailey

This is not a bad thing... and perhaps now is the time for a few other OUSD board members to begin actively seeking other employment.
My hope at this time is that Tim not be replaced, and that his inflated salary be used to save the jobs of at least four hard-working teachers whom the OUSD has laid off.
Enough said.
