Hollywood Invades Ojai
Currently writing from Ojai Coffee Roasting Co... there are literally twenty five Hollywood types in here sizing up OCRC as a location for some movie. Of course they aren't grabbing a coffee, they are just creating a ridiculous amount of noise, pointing around where some actor is going to walk, and how the camera is going to catch the scene.
Have I mentioned how much I don't miss living in LA?

Let me add that I welcome Ojai serving as a film location - on-location shooting can bring in a fair amount of money to the local economy through location fees, licenses, a bit of local spending, maybe some hotel rooms.
But after living in LA for over fifteen years, man is it annoying.

kind of a small place for 25 hopped-up folks to be running around but should make for some fun people watching!

There is nothing fascinating or fun about huge trucks with tons of lights and cables and wires and people walking around yapping to each other through talkie-walkies, cell phones and then clicking "action" boards. Add a bunch of extras standing around sitting/standing/walking blocking walkways and a few stars faking a shootout and honestly it's all boring and nauseating...really stupid and disruptive..especially in town. Hollywood is great, in Hollywood.

Hello? The restaurants, shops, hotels/motels, local UNemployed, AND the associated fees and rentals here in Oh-so-Ojai could really use crews, casts, spending their hard-earned $$ in our "fair" town! What a stimulus! More films, TV, commercials this summer stimulus, Please and Thank You!

I just have to chime in and say that back in 1997, when Oprah Winfrey (Harpo Productions) descended on Mallory Way to film "Before Women Had Wings," it was pretty darn exciting! As far as I know, the whole neighborhood had a good time.
We all got to watch Oprah in grubby overalls, sans make-up, gardening in the field by the Cottages Among the Flowers and Troy Lodge. The film crew could not have been nicer, and even invited us to lunch at the Masonic Lodge...
I have to add that when Harpo Productions came before the City to get their Permits, the Ciy Council did not cut them any slack...they had to abide by the rules (no late night lights or noise) just like every body else...

and they most definitely boosted the local economy!

Hi,Tyler,
For edification, they have been coming in separately and a few at a time enjoying lunches, goodies and coffee. They have been, in my estimation, going thru all the niddy gritty stuff we all have to if we want something a tad different. We shall see, won't we? I love your observations. Always listening. Could be fun, or not.
Love, Stacey

I was notified of a film shooting here by my friend Ben from LA. I was surprised not to have heard about it here in town. He came up with another friend and we all signed up for extra work. I welcome the opportunity to reinstate my SAG membership and make three-hundred bucks a day. And there will be lots of extras from LA coming up for much-needed work during tough economic times. The film crew will be here for 38 days and be lodging at homes and hotels throughout town, helping out many residents who are struggling to pay mortgages. And this maybe beginning of more to come. One extra at the open call announced that a large film studio is planned for Moorpark just as Hollywood is looking to shoot closer to home to save on travel as the economy continues to bite the industry in the ass. We shall see how this all plays out.
