DCCC Targeting Gallegly in 2010

by Tyler Suchman on April 4, 2009

From the SF Chronicle, looks like the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will be pouring money into CA-24 in 2010 in an attempt to oust stalwart Republican Elton Gallegly:

California GOP voter registration is “dropping like a rock,” a new study shows, declining so fast that Democratic Party officials see an unprecedented opportunity to gain voters and House seats in the 2010 election.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has targeted 35 districts across the country represented by Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives – including eight in California [on the list is Gallegly - ed.]

UPDATE, 11:37pm: Nice link from Brian Dennert at the VC Star. Where’s SPK on this?

I am posting a link to this story on my blog. Make sure to comment with your thoughts on who you would like to see run.

We’ve know about this for some time. Sadly 2008 was really the time to strike and in classic indecisive, ineffective fashion the DCCC blew it. A relative non-entity, Marta Jorgensen, got the highest percentage of votes against Gallegly since he’s been in the Congress. This, of course, was due to the coat-tail effect of the Obama campaign which the DCCC, in its infinite wisdom, failed to capitalize on in many districts including ours. Now they want to spend money in 2010 to get the seat. The only real problem is that Gallegly probably won’t be running. My guess is that we will be facing the Strickland’s for that seat in 2010. That will seriously change the dynamic, and we will not have a coat-tail to ride into DC this time. In fact, while Obama enjoys a very high approval rating now, hovering around 70%, it would be unwise to assume that it will still be that high in 2010. Especially if his top down approach to the economy fails to re-inflate the bubble and the real facts of our economic problems manifest in full.
The key to winning in 2010 is two fold. First, serious organizing and strengthening of the Democratic party in this district is paramount and going on right now. I encourage anyone interested to come to the Ojai Valley Democrats Club meetings and see what is happening county and district wide to make positive, progressive change. Second, we need a real candidate that can either raise serious money or already has serious money. Name recognition is huge. Unfortunately, in our perverse political system we need to find someone like a rich film or television star who wants to go to Congress. Nothing against her, but if we choose Marta Jorgensen again she and we will lose.
Anyone have any good ideas for candidates?

Sean, Your insights never fail to be both feeble and of no consequence … Get a job!!!

spk April 5, 2009 at 11:12 pm

Angelina? Is this that woman on all the billboards in LA?

momster April 6, 2009 at 1:24 am

No Sean, that would be Angelyne.
If you’re going to take offense to someones comebacks, you need a better comeback haha.
Thanks for the giggle.
Now, let’s think of a good celebrity to run (preferably not Angelyne).

By the way, this is slightly off subject (though not as off as a repug troll going by the moniker Angelina), but here is a resource of good articles on the current economic collapse. Pretty much everything you need to know in a nutshell, though it will take some reading. Don’t let anyone tell you the financial situation is “too hard” for you to understand, it isn’t. Just think gambling.

Ventura County needs to get rid of the BS goverment leaders; Strickland and Gallegly. and elect people who will work for the all the people of the County. not just those few in Simi and Moorpark.
