Here’s the first in a new series we’re trying out called 10 Second Tips.
Enjoy!
We’re going into iPhoto pretty heavily this month, and here’s a great tip on reducing the amount of time iPhoto takes to launch.
Check this out.
Launch iPhoto, and see how long it takes to open. It’s pretty fast, but will vary depending on the speed of your computer, RAM etc.
Quit iPhoto.
Now, go to your Applications folder and click once on iPhoto to highlight it. Now go up to the File Menu and select Get Info.
A window will pop up displaying all sorts of nifty information about iPhoto. Scroll down until you see the word Languages. Click on the little triangle to the left of the word Languages to open that menu up.
Now DE-Select every language except for the ones you care about. For me, I’ve only left English selected. Once you’ve done this, close this window and launch iPhoto again.
WOW!

This is great, Chris, really helpful.
What’s your 10-second tip for all of the PC users who are feeling left out?
My 10-second tip for the PC users is “buy a Mac.”
I know that can come across as glibness, but my focus generally concerns the “creative-professional” market. It’s not as easy to get into the arts applications on a PC as it is to do on a Mac.
However, if anyone knows any 10-second tips for Windows Photo Gallery, please share them! My commitment is that creative people get to be creative, and have access to the best tools available, so if anyone has some input of their own, please share up.
More importantly, when is Ultra playing again?
-My name is Lisa and I’m a PC
thanks, Chris! i’m gonna teach this to my iPhoto classes next week!
Lisa, so funny!
Evan, check out my eZine, I’ve got other iPhoto tips on there which you are welcome to use in your classes if they fit.
This is my second ever iphoto trick, thanks! the first is the facebook uploader that makes it soooo quick and handy to post albums directly.
Thanks for this!
and when IS ultra playing again?
Cool tip. It worked. Never would have found it or thought of it on my own. Thanks, Chris! Coincidentally, I just downloaded the iphoto exporter for facebook. About to try it.
Lanny, The iPhoto exporter for FaceBook works great, I used to use it. The new version of iPhoto (part of iLife ’09) actually has this feature built-in! Also full support for Flickr. Wow.
