Dishing Ojai: Wine

Right here in our own backyard, we have two great wineries with tasting rooms open to the public: Casa Barranca and Old Creek Ranch (have you been?). Casa Barranca specializes in organic wine, and Old Creek has some wonderful Mediterranean styles. We also have Movino, where Buddy Wilds serves up glasses of intriguing varieties, like Earthquake Zin or Caymus Conundrum, when he’s not up on the stage or coiffing a hair-do or two. And over at the Ojai Beverage Co., Jorge and Joby have daily tastings to tempt any palate, and 1000 bottles to choose from. I’ll be presenting on local wines (there are more than you'd think) at the upcoming Ventura County Women’s Expo and would love to hear your thoughts about wine. What have you tasted lately that’s got you swooning over the grape? And do you have any fun wine quotes (or even song lyrics) to share, like, “In vino veritas (In wine there is truth),” or Dean Martin’s, “You haven't drunk too much wine if you can still lie on the floor without holding on.”

More Dishing Ojai columns here.

great info lisa! think I told you I recently fell for a malbec and cabernet when I visited la dolce vita. Matter-of-fact I've tried two Malbecs lately that I've liked. The original two wines I listed are organic from argentina by Santa Julia Organica. Still trying to source them.

"Come, come, good wine is a good familiar creature if it be well used; exclaim no more against it."
Shakespeare, Othello

Hey Lisa I always like to read your work. After visiting Argentina my new white wine for this summer is Torrontes. This is the name of the grape varietal that grows only in Argentina. It is a crisp white with a slight fruitiness that is sure to be a hit this summer. Also, for DK we can get the Santa Julia for you on special order and we carry many malbecs. Come by and see me-Joby.

"I cook with wine; sometimes I even add it to the food."

(It once read Winona Forever)

...sorry, couldn't resist.

DK, Joby, LTOR, these are great, thank you so much! I'm still loving Paso zins (haven't met one I don't like). "Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy." - Benjamin Franklin

a wine quote from an organic grower in Louisiana just showed up in my email, must be for you!
Honor the Lord with your substance, and with the first fruits of all
your increase: so your barns be filled with plenty, and your presses
shall burst out with new wine.

Proverbs 3:9-10
