This is a sad story from our neighbors down in Port Hueneme…
Port Hueneme Mayor Toni Young died today following a sudden illness.
“During her time in office she never lost touch with the people of her community”, said Mayor Pro Tem Jon Sharkey in a written statement. “She was able to maintain an humility that is rare in a politician. Toni’s infectious enthusiasm was a great inspiration to all who knew her. She was one of the first to encourage me to run for city council. I greatly valued her friendship and support. Our city will be poorer without her. She will be greatly missed.”
Young’s death came one day before she was to retire from a 16-year career on the city council.

This gives me pause.
I remember meeting Toni Young years ago.
All deaths give me pause–but especially when I hear about those that happen just before, or soon after, retirement.
My sincere condolences to her friends and family.
I hope her spirit is at peace.
After I wrote the above Comment I clicked on the link to the article about Toni. When I saw her photo I remembered how warm, friendly and unpretentious she was.
Even sadder, she was only 56 years old…
