"Sunrise Mandala"

The Party's Over, or, is it just beginning.

Thanks. Very beautiful and powerful. I believe the Ojai Party is just beginning. Small is Beautiful...and very powerful.

That's fun Raymond. I've heard that they wash away the mandala because its a safety issue. Is that true? Was there an accident one year? I think it would be great to leave it all the way through, say, the election.

As far as I know, there's never been an accident due to the mandala.

It is my understanding that Caltrans sees the mandala as being a distraction to drivers and therefore a safety issue.

But with that logic, the banner across Ojai Avenue advertising events, Christmas decorations, Art flags and other seasonal festive decor, etc., should also be banned.

Anything that distracts drivers can be considered a "safety issue."

There are probably regulations related to markings on a state highway...but perhaps if the City Council revisits the issue long before the next Ojai Day we can get an excemption...(just off the top of my head...I was on the Council when the Ojai Day tradition was firs brought back...will see if I can find out the real reason down the road ...)

Hi Suza -

The chalk drawings and messages for bike races stay on the state highway for months, not to mention the little directional paint (or stickered?) arrows for said races. I think its worth looking into.

Thanks, Tyler

Tue, Tyler.

I will be sure to mention the chalk drawings and messages for bike races when I look into this.

(Ofcourse one has to word these things carefully, so that Caltrans doesn't make us wash those off too!)
