I note with interest the title: "Messiah Who? Oblama Bin Laughin'?" Obama is a symbol for our times.

I read elsewhere that on Oct. 22 I think he made some strong pro-war statements. He has also backed up with a clear statement the official version of 911.

Therefore, I agree with those who say that a vote for Obama is complicity in war against the earth and her poor. What does that say about Obama enthusiasts?

From my reading yesterday on ICH, Information Clearing House, I am shocked by the horrors of war inflicted upon our planet and the poor, and now even on the middle class. The stats are horrendous: the deaths, starvation, lack of water, tons of toxins being dumped into our air every minute, extinction of animal and plant species, etc. My mind can't begin to understand how evil and horrible life is for so many. It makes me very sad.

And yet, here in Ojai we are so blessed and insulated yet from the horrors of war in all its dimensions. And still, Obama the war candidate, generates so much messianism.

Your vision is important. It is an alternative to the NWO, in fact, its polar opposite. I will think about this thread, your dream and related matters.

I see you were first published right here in Ojai about 1970. When I get time, I will review your posts.

I am concerned about the state of Ojai, vis a vis Obama. Early on I made the observation that I thought Ojaians were relatively unenlightened which upset at least one person here. The general support for Obama gives credibility to my contention. I hope events prove me wrong and I will be happy to stand corrected.

Let Ojai stand as a microcosm. If I am correct about Obama, why are so many here deceived? I assign this gross ignorance and moral culpability to four general causes: 1. Belief in a patriarchal God of some sort (could be money or security); 2. Support for the killing and/or eating of animals; 3. Pethood; 4. Rebellion against the principles of our nature, as illustrated in this thread with the 42 laws of Maat.

By the way, I liked your outline of 11 points so far to consider.

This is just a start. I need to mull over this as I do other things today. A heartfelt thanks to you and to Ojai.

Very interesting information about Obama's name. Thanks. You will note that it is premised on the God paradigm which is also the general framework of the NWO. Makes me wonder if the Oblama phenomena has not been prepared longer ago than we suspect. The use of God is a patriarchal ploy so all the positive of Obama's name can be turned by clever manipulators into something else. Thanks for that info about the fall of civilizations. All of them are patriarchal which eventually self-destructs. What MT is referencing here is different, very different; she is self-sustaining and indestructable, even though for the joy of freedom and restoration, allows patriarchy to show where it's not at.

I awakened at 4 under the stars, put my feet on the bare earth so I feel refreshed and grounded.

Before coming here, I googled ontology and Maat and 42 laws of Maat to get a feel for the context of this thread. My own understanding is as follows.

Maat refers to the original, primal Lover who just is. As far as our species is concerned, we come to know her by knowing ourselves, which directive was on many of her temples. It's now called the Anthropic Principle. I'll have to google that too; see if I'm accurate but I think I am.

Regarding ontology, we have to use words and language as symbols, metaphors and pointers, although they are not the full reality that stand in for. For me, love is the centerpiece of words. In the personal dimension, it's Lover; in the impersonal it's Love; in the interpersonal it's Lovur (u are the Lover and Love).

Why is this thread so feminine in its wording? Because that lies at the very heart of our nature as femina sapiens.

Now most of us are not philosophers. We relate to stories more than to concepts. That's why it is vitally important to know herstory because it is ourstory.

Look at the stars and the earth to see the Lover's creation in general. Look at yourself to see it in particular. You can only understand the general by knowing yourself, a particular individual.

Before the beginning, there is the Lover. Creation appeared out of her, and is her. We have studied it from a scientific approach that is well known. What is not so well known is the direct knowing of her and therefore us.

150,000 years ago there was a big change, not evolution but change. The Lover embodied, incarnated, took flesh as us. She is Eve, the mother of us all, an actual womam whose genes we all have now. She and us are femina sapiens, from womam and wisdom. Wisdom is close to meaning true understanding or knowledge which also includes order, the order of nature or natural creation.

From these general orienting principles, we come to specific applications. There is an order to the universe and if we don't understand and follow it, there will be ugly consequences personal and social.

A very general schema of order is this: the Lover, her creations, earth, womam, child, man.

Here comes the kicker. Man is derived from womam. Man is a servant of womam and her children. Unless man understand and follows this natural order, he reverts to his hominid roots and becomes patriarchal.

Patriarchy rebels against the natural order and love government. It sets itself up as a first principle rather than the Lover and love. Its prime tool is God, a self reflective concept. God becomes the front for patriarchal men. And God can go by other names like Money, Security and NWO.

Patriarchy made war on womam, the earth, animals and practically everything that moved and didn't. War is its defining character, like Messiah Olama.

Maat refers to the Lover but you have to understand that the 42 laws of Maat have arisen in a patriarchal context when law was necessary. Prior to law there was the governance of love. There was no writing; no his-story; no law; no force; no money; no patriarchy. There was the sound of the Lover's voice inside the body of each individual femina sapiens individual which held their society together peacefully for a hundred thousand years and more.

Patriarchy killed that and is now in the final stages of killing us, killing our spirits and turning us into slaves in their new world order. Love is still operative; you can see it in the 42 laws but back further is the Lover and her world of love. This is not speculative fancy but down to earth practical ontology upon which our survival depends.

Patriarchy took the love culture and like a parasite has nearly killed it. We now have to kill patriarchy or it will kill us. The only way to do this is through being (ontology) the Lover and Love. We need to be ourselves.

There are practices and manifestations of love. The 42 laws, possibly based on 42 districts in Eygpt, were formulated in patriarchal times, incorporating many ancient love prescriptions in a negative formulation. Love is a direct experience of the Lover. There is a difference.

You can know the primal governance of love by seeing through the lies and rewrites of patriarchy. Turn the lies back upon themselves. Patriarchy is a parasite; it creates little of itself except killing and war; it took the womam culture and twisted it; it doesn't have the sapiens or intelligence to create of itself.

We have to see the whole forest or we will be lost. We won't see the forest for the trees. We don't need to be ontologists but we do need to resonate to the true story of who we are as a species. All most of us know now is the story patriarchy tells us and that is nothing but one big lie from the Father Penis of Lies. It's all manipulation and lying thievery; it's Messiah Oblama in spades.

There are two other threads going now that hold my interest: "Does Ojai Care About Animals?" and "8 Gate." Prop 2 and 8.

I have commented on Prop 2 which would make killing animals more humane. Most here think it is a good move but few if any see that killing animals at all for meat consumption is an ontological, ecological and psychological disaster. Few if any see the connection between killing animals for food and keeping pets which is likewise an ontological disaster. It goes to show how far we have come from sapiens or intelligence. The masters of patriarchy have killed our intelligence like they kill farm animals; and they enslave us like we enslave our pets for our own neurotic needs.
It part and parcel of the patriarchy master-slave game.

Likewise with marriage and its laws. Few see the patriarchal brainwash and coverup of the original love culture where sex and love were communal and had nothing to do with money, the real patprick marriage partner, no matter which sex.

GAYATHRI AS A MANTRA

"Mannanat traayate ithi mantra" the more we mentally chant, the better it saves us - is the meaning of Mantra.. Meditation in utmost silence is the "Sampradaya" (Good tradition). But it is, somewhat, different in the case of Gayatri as a Mantra. "Gayataam traayate itih gaayatri" is the slokam, which means that the more we chant it aloud rhythmically as a song, the better, we may say, it protects (Trayate) us. "Mantro devaadhi saadhanam" - divine powers are achieved through mantra - is what our "Arsha Sampradaya" (ancient Indian tradition) proclaims. Gayatri Mantra activates (Prachodaayat) all divine powers. That is why we find, now-a-days, that no Pooja or Saadhana is complete without the use of this Mantra. Mundane or spiritual happiness is attained when it is chanted with "Sankalpa Suddhi" (ideal thoughts that are chaste and aware to do good). The power of Gayatri is taken help of in attaining all kinds of "Siddhis". That is why Gayatri is said to be "Mantra Raaja" (Queen among Mantras). The number of Mantraakshara (letters of Mantra) is 24 (Twenty-four) . While "OM BHOOH BHUVASSU WAH" are the "Vyaahriti" (that which uttered to precede the ‘Moola’ (Main) Mantra - a separate entity by itself.

"OM TATSAVITURVARENYAM BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI DHIYO YONAH PRACHODAYAAT" -

is the Moola (Original) Mantra. The singular sound that emanates from the unity of letters, namely,"A + U + M". is pronounced as "OM" and the above three lines of Gayatri are the under - current of "OMKAR" which is known as Parabrahma", and Brahma is the embodiment of "OM" (Omityekakseharam Brahma - Chapter 8 - 13 of Bhagawad Geeta). "BRAHMA VEDA BRAHMAIWA BHAWATI" (Brahma is the embodiment of Supreme knowledge) - thus says the Mundakopanishad (3-2-9) (the Upanishad pronounced by Muni Mandukya) - regarding the use of Pranava (Omkar) in any kind of meditation. That is why our ancient seers (Rishis) proclaim Gayatri as "Pranava Swaroopini" (Embodiment of Omkar). Omkar is omnipotent, and without Omkar, no Mantra is complete. This "OM" is preceded by each and every Mantra and Gayatri is no exception. That is why the Moola Mantra", i. e. "TATSAVITURGVARENYA M ——— PRACHODAYAAT" is preceded by "OM" and without this "OM" theMoola Mantra" in Deva Nagri will comprise of 23 (Twenty-three) letters only.

Even though the "Mantradhi Devata" of Gayatri is "Avyaya" (one who is not a sex but is all genders), known as the embodiment of "(Surya) Narayana", the "Savitru MandalaMadhya Varti" (the one who moves in all paths or way of Sun as visible to us). But some others proclaim the "Adhi Devata"(Spreme God embodiment) a Woman, and she is said to be "Saavitri",the‘Savitru Mandala Madhya Varthini’. The Male Deity, is meditated as –

"DHYEYASSADAA SAVITRU MANDALA MADDHYA VARTHEE
NAAR YANASSARASIJAASANA SANNIVISHTA
KEYURAVAAN MAKARAKUNDALAVAAN KIREETI

And as a Female Deity, Gayatri Mantra is chanted as –

As a matter of fact the, Goddess of ‘Upaasana’ has no single gender. In Sanskrit, She is known as ‘Kleebam’ (no single gender). Goldman Sachs ready to hand out £7bn salary and bonus package... after its £6bn bail-out

London, Dailymail, 31 October 2008 -- U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs HQ which has set aside £7bn for bonuses and salaries this year Goldman Sachs is on course to pay its top City bankers multimillion-pound bonuses - despite asking the U.S. government for an emergency bail-out.

The struggling Wall Street bank has set aside £7billion for salaries and 2008 year-end bonuses, it emerged yesterday.

Each of the firm's 443 partners is on course to pocket an average Christmas bonus of more than £3million.

The size of the pay pool comfortably dwarfs the £6.1billion lifeline which the U.S. government is throwing to Goldman as part of its £430billion bail-out.

As Washington pours money into the bank, the cash will immediately be channelled to Goldman's already well-heeled employees.

News of the firm's largesse will revive the anger over the 'rewards for failure' culture endemic in the world of high finance.

The same bankers who have brought the global economy to its knees seem to pocketing the same kind of rewards they got during the boom years.

Gordon Brown has vowed to crack down on the culture of greed in the City as part of his £500billion bail-out of the UK banking industry.

But that won't affect the estimated 100 London partners working at Goldman Sachs's London headquarters.

The firm - known as Golden Sacks for the bumper bonuses it pay its top bankers - is expected to cut the payouts by a third this year. However, profits are falling much faster. Earnings have plunged 47 per cent so far this year amid the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

This has wiped more than 50 per cent off the company's market value.

The news comes after it was revealed that even bankers working for collapsed Wall Street giant, Lehman Brothers, could receive huge payouts.

Its 10,000 U.S. staff are expected to share a £1.5billion bonus pool. The payouts were agreed as part of the rescue takeover of Lehman's American arm by Barclays last month.

The blockbuster handouts caused consternation among London employees of the firm, many of whom have now lost their jobs.

Even workers at the nationalised Northern Rock will scoop bonuses worth up to £50million over the next three years.

The extraordinary handouts include more than £400,000 for Rock's boss, Gary Hoffman, who is likely to become Britain's best-paid public sector worker.

The majority of Northern Rock's 4,000 workers will receive four separate bonus payments - the first of which will be made next March. Staff will get an extra 10 per cent on top of their basic salary.

Lloyds TSB also intends to pay its employees bonuses despite taking a £5.5 billion emergency cash injection from the taxpayer.

News of Goldman's bonus plan came as the firm promoted 92 of its bankers to partner level. A quarter are based in Fleet Street, London.

Partnership is the holy grail of the investment banking world as the exclusive club shares around a fifth of the firm's total bonus pool.

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo last night warned that Wall Street management taking the government bailout money will be breaking the law if they put the cash straight into their own pockets!

Blessings Again to Ama, the Divine Feminine

Yes, the media message is insane, and we are unwinding their programmed pattern of cursing a sacred name. The combination of vowels found in the names 'Obama' and 'Osama' is not an accident. 'Ama' is a root word in many languages for 'mother' and 'love'. Placing a prefix such as 'O' before it simply defines which quality of love.

In an ideal world, the words created using 'Ama' also generate the intention of loving deeds and care for the world. People who have chosen or been given names with this root are also given the opportunity, each time their name is spoken, to generate this quality of consciousness around them.

The US government cursed 'Ama'. Literally, has cursed the sacred feminine out loud for the past seven years. By manufacturing a lie, and speaking the names with hatred, we have created an energetic pattern of cursing 'Ama', our Divine Mother.

It is not the start of our disowning the Divine Feminine. Rather, it is the revealing and ending of the practice. Those whom big brother in the US refers to as founding fathers have incarnated as slavemasters multiple times. Clearly, their specialty (and learning process) is around creating systems of government that isolate and disempower people from listening to Spirit.

It was not the intention of everyone in the US government to turn away from the Divine Feminine. But the manipulators made it so. Our collective unconsciousness was focused on the profane, or non-sacred masculine principles more and more. And now, that slowly moving pendulum of 13,000 years is crossing into a new connection to Spirit. The principles of Divine Feminine, as well as the broken Masculine which founded the US invoked in its inception, are responding.

Like seedlings emerging after a sudden frost, what was planted hundreds of years ago here, thousands of years ago in Egypt, and tens of thousands of years ago in Lemuria is awakening. Our conscious minds now know it. Now we feel the pendulum swinging rapidly towards 2012, towards the full reconnection to Spirit. How can our world, in finances and politics not swing dramatically with this?

These armies and industries and governments were not meant simply to exist and function for a short span of historical time. Rather, they were meant to be a series of awakening practices for the enlightenment of today. Which way will we expand out of that point? Inward and outward to encompass all directions, all peoples.

Our collective unconsciousness is speaking and acting each day more and more, just like the bright Sunlight stirring us out of our slumbers. As we move closer to the election date, we also move closer to the brilliance of her Sunlight. Are we ready to hear and share the truth? Are we ready to see the entire world which Sunlight will show us?

If we choose to speak "Obama' with a sense of joy and support, we will unwind the cursing the old boys created upon the name "Osama' as well. This will move us out of the polarity of 'us versus them’, and the remaining Masculine the religious wars are founded upon.

When I woke at 4, it was gently raining. Then it cleared with an opening of stars overhead. I ate leftover quinoa, collard greens and sunchokes. As I walked to the big house, faint lightning flashed and thunder rumbled in the west and Ojai's light reflected on the clouds in the east. Preceded by a burst of wind, it is now raining in earnest.

At any rate, my purview of sharings on this and other threads reinforces my belief that the Ojai Valley is where it's at, a sort of microculture of our larger world. The Ojai Post also appears to be sort of a mantra in its own right.

"Something is happening and you don't know what it is, do you, Mr. Jones?" I don't know either but there sure are many diverse helpings to choose from with our Taste of OJai. All real roads lead to Rome and all virtual ones to Ojai. Lover Moon and Sun sees to that.

Ojai herself is a mantra as well as a mandala. The vowels in some ancient languages were interchangeable and not specified in writing. Hence, Ojai could be pronounced Ah-high, Ah-ha and so on.

Mantras and mandalas and gestures (sound, light and feeling) are highly personal and over the millenia have become encoded into custom.

I have my own audio, visual and kinesthetic information, energetic system that I have put together for myself after 68 years of being a religious metafizzle. Its centerpiece is Love in the impersonal, Lover in the personal and Lovur or Lovus in the interpersonal, along with 52 cards as supporting cast.

Language is the basis of culture which is the carrier of Love or anti-love in the case of our present partriarchal cult(ure).

The rain is coming down fairly hard and steady now. For me, it's Love from the body of the Lover Lovur. That's the way the pre-patriarchal love culture looked at it anyway, and I attempt to tap into that paradigm with my system.

My own understanding is that ah is the fundamental sound, a short a, a feminine a. It appears spontaneously when we pause in speech, seems associated with the sound of breath and is what the doctor says to say when examining your throat.

The short a sound is also written as a short o in the word love according to the ancient practice of interchanging vowel sounds. The primal, originating Lover thus coded her name in tune with her nature and the natural world.

Patriarchy overthrew that world and rewrote everything it stood for. Therefore, it is not surprising that the original La sound of Lover which is feminine to this day as in La Senorita was changed and rewritten as Om or Aum by patriarchy, a hard, long o with a closed lips m.

A short feminine a with an open lipped l consonant of the womam focal love culture was changed to long o with a closed lip m of the rebel male patriarch focal war cult.

The superior male penis cult was imbedded in the language and hence in the culture, running as an energetic emotional system beneath the surface of consciousness and still is. We can talk all day about divine feminine but if we are using words like God, Goddess, om, divine, spirit, messiah and evilution, patriarchy has still got us by the balls and the tits. It manipulates us from below the surface of awareness through language and culture.

That's why I''m so adamant about exposing patriarchy. As long as you ignore it and do not directly challenge it, you enable it to continue operating. As MT does so well, you have to first understand and expose the negative and than replace it with a positive alternative.

The negative and positive are both coded in language. It's not a matter of one without the other but of the proper balance between the two. I think it was Hamlet who said he would go deeper than those who were trying to kill him. We also have to go deeper than those who are attempting to kill us as they almost totally killed the love culture. We are the remnant that will regrow it.

Can you decode and rewrite that again, and put it back into its original love culture in terms of the universe Lover saying that to Lovur or Lovus? My Yahoo front page caught my eye this morning. There was a window on Obama as icon. Sure enough the story was about the creation of a Che Guevara like picture of him that has become the democratic party logo. Red is the predominate color with some blue and white. It reminds me Chairman Mao especially but also of Comrade Stalin.

As carefully vetted as he was by the democrats, I makes me wonder what's up. Check your sources LTOR would wisely counsel. The LA artist has done other work in this vein like with Che, and is now making $1000 per print on Obama. Sorry, he's out of stock. The Democrats could have prevented this icon but they chose to run with it, even though it features a republican color prominently with revolutionary, even communist undertones.

Why? Is this a set up by the real bosses? Why present Obama as a Messiah when it's so un-American to do so? Why expose Obama to the risk of over exposure that Henry IV cautioned about to his son in Shakespeare's play. The bosses surely realize that "familiarity breeds contempt."

As I said, the Fed is only the tip of the Titanic but if it tips, there will be quite a sinking. It could be a fall guy, though, and we've got to realize that the planners are usually a step ahead, and will do anything to save their system, even letting the Fed sink.

Most Serious Economic Crisis in Modern History

The October 2008 financial meltdown is not the result of a cyclical economic phenomenon. It is the deliberate result of US government policy instrumented through the Treasury and the US Federal Reserve Board.

This is the most serious economic crisis in World history.

The "bailout" proposed by the US Treasury does not constitute a "solution" to the crisis. In fact quite the opposite: it is the cause of further collapse. It triggers an unprecedented concentration of wealth, which in turn contributes to widening economic and social inequalities both within and between nations.

The levels of indebtedness have skyrocketed. Industrial corporations are driven into bankruptcy, taken over by the global financial institutions. Credit, namely the supply of loanable funds, which constitutes the lifeline of production and investment, is controlled by a handful of financial conglomerates.

With the "bailout", the public debt has spiraled. America is the most indebted country on earth. Prior to the "bailout", the US public debt was of the order of 10 trillion dollars. This US dollar denominated debt is composed of outstanding treasury bills and government bonds held by individuals, foreign governments, corporations and financial institutions.

"The Bailout": The US Administration is Financing its Own Indebtedness

Ironically, the Wall Street banks --which are the recipients of the bailout money-- are also the brokers and underwriters of the US public debt. Although the banks hold only a portion of the public debt, they transact and trade in US dollar denominated public debt instruments Worldwide.

In a bitter twist, the banks are the recipients of a 700+ billion dollar handout and at the same time they act as creditors of the US government.

We are dealing with an absurd circular relationship: To finance the bailout, Washington must borrow from the banks, which are the recipients of the bailout.

The US administration is financing its own indebtedness.

Federal, State and municipal governments are increasingly in a straightjacket, under the tight control of the global financial conglomerates. Increasingly, the creditors call the shots on government reform.

The bailout is conducive to the consolidation and centralization of banking power, which in turn backlashes on real economic activity, leading to a string of bankruptcies and mass unemployment.

Will an Obama Administration Reverse the Tide?

The financial crisis is the outcome of a deregulated financial architecture.

Obama has stated unequivocally his resolve to address the policy failures of the Bush administration and "democratize" the US financial system. President-Elect Barack Obama says that he is committed to reversing the tide:

"Let us remember that if this financial crisis taught us anything, it’s that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers. In this country, we rise or fall as one nation, as one people." (President-elect Barack Obama, November 4, 2008, emphasis added)

The Democrats casually blame the Bush administration for the October financial meltdown.

Obama says that he will be introducing an entirely different policy agenda which responds to the interests of Main Street:

"Tomorrow, you can turn the page on policies that put the greed and irresponsibility of Wall Street before the hard work and sacrifice of men and women all across Main Street. Tomorrow you can choose policies that invest in our middle class and create new jobs and grow this economy so that everybody has a chance to succeed, from the CEO to the secretary and the janitor, from the factory owner to the men and women who work on the factory floor.( Barack Obama, election campaign, November 3, 2008, emphasis added)

Is Obama committed to "taming Wall Street" and "disarming financial markets"?

Ironically, it was under the Clinton administration that these policies of "greed and irresponsibility" were adopted.

The 1999 Financial Services Modernization Act (FSMA) was conducive to the the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933. A pillar of President Roosevelt’s "New Deal", the Glass-Steagall Act was put in place in response to the climate of corruption, financial manipulation and "insider trading" which resulted in more than 5,000 bank failures in the years following the 1929 Wall Street crash.

Under the 1999 Financial Services Modernization Act, effective control over the entire US financial services industry (including insurance companies, pension funds, securities companies, etc.) had been transferred to a handful of financial conglomerates and their associated hedge funds.

The Engineers of Financial Disaster

Who are the architects of this debacle?

In a bitter irony, the engineers of financial disaster are now being considered by President-Elect Barack Obama's Transition Team for the position Treasury Secretary:

Lawrence Summers played a key role in lobbying Congress for the repeal of the Glass Steagall Act. His timely appointment by President Clinton in 1999 as Treasury Secretary spearheaded the adoption of the Financial Services Modernization Act in November 1999. Upon completing his mandate at the helm of the US Treasury, he became president of Harvard University (2001- 2006).

Paul Volker was chairman of the Federal Reserve Board in the l980s during the Reagan era. He played a central role in implementing the first stage of financial deregulation, which was conducive to mass bankruptcies, mergers and acquisitions, leading up to the 1987 financial crisis.

Timothy Geithner is CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which is the most powerful private financial institution in America. He was also a former Clinton administration Treasury official. He has worked for Kissinger Associates and has also held a senior position at the IMF. The FRBNY plays a behind the scenes role in shaping financial policy. Geithner acts on behalf of powerful financiers, who are behind the FRBNY. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR)

Jon Corzine is currently governor of New Jersey, former CEO of Goldman Sachs.

At the time of writing, Obama's favorite is Larry Summers, front-runner for the position of Treasury Secretary.

Harvard University Economics Professor Lawrence Summers served as Chief Economist for the World Bank (1991–1993). He contributed to shaping the macro-economic reforms imposed on numerous indebted developing countries. The social and economic impact of these reforms under the IMF-World Bank sponsored structural adjustment program (SAP) were devastating, resulting in mass poverty.

Larry Summer's stint at the World Bank coincided with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the imposition of the IMF-World Bank's deadly " economic medicine" on Eastern Europe, the former Soviet republics and the Balkans.

In 1993, Summers moved to the US Treasury. He initially held the position of Undersecretary of the Treasury for international affairs and later Deputy Secretary. In liaison with his former colleagues at the IMF and the World Bank, he played a key role in crafting the economic "shock treatment" reform packages imposed at the height of the 1997 Asian crisis on South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia.

The bailout agreements negotiated with these three countries were coordinated through Summers office at the Treasury in liaison with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the Washington based Bretton Woods institutions. Summers worked closely with IMF Deputy Managing Director Stanley Fischer, who was later appointed Governor of the Central Bank of Israel.

Larry Summers became Treasury Secretary in July 1999. He is a protégé of David Rockefeller. He was among the main architects of the infamous Financial Services Modernization Act, which provided legitimacy to inside trading and outright financial manipulation.

"Putting the Fox in Charge of the Chicken Coop"

Summers is currently a Consultant to Goldman Sachs and managing director of a Hedge fund, the D.E. Shaw Group, As a Hedge Fund manager, his contacts at the Treasury and on Wall Street provide him with valuable inside information on the movement of financial markets.

Putting a Hedge Fund manager (with links to the Wall Street financial establishment) in charge of the Treasury is tantamount to putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop.

The Washington Consensus

Summers, Geithner, Corzine, Volker, Fischer, Phil Gramm, Bernanke, Hank Paulson, Rubin, not to mention Alan Greenspan, al al. are buddies; they play golf together; they have links to the Council on Foreign Relations and the Bilderberg; they act concurrently in accordance with the interests of Wall Street; they meet behind closed doors; they are on the same wave length; they are Democrats and Republicans.

While they may disagree on some issues, they are firmly committed to the Washington-Wall Street Consensus. They are utterly ruthless in their management of economic and financial processes. Their actions are profit driven. Outside of their narrow interest in the "efficiency" of "markets", they have little concern for "living human beings". How are people's lives affected by the deadly gamut of macro-economic and financial reforms, which is spearheading entire sectors of economic activity into bankruptcy.

The economic reasoning underlying neoliberal economic discourse is often cynical and contemptuous. In this regard, Lawrence Summers' economic discourse stands out. He is known among environmentalists for having proposed the dumping of toxic waste in Third World countries, because people in poor countries have shorter lives and the costs of labor are abysmally low, which essentially means that the market value of people in the Third World is much lower. According to Summers, this makes it far more "cost effective" to export toxic materials to impoverished countries. A controversial 1991 World Bank memo signed by of Chief Economist Larry Summers reads as follows (excerpts, emphasis added):

"'Dirty' Industries: Just between you and me, shouldn't the World Bank be encouraging MORE migration of the dirty industries to the Less Developed Countries? I can think of three reasons:

1) The measurements of the costs of health impairing pollution depends on the foregone earnings from increased morbidity and mortality.... From this point of view a given amount of health impairing pollution should be done in the country with the lowest cost, which will be the country with the lowest wages. I think the economic logic behind dumping a load of toxic waste in the lowest wage country is impeccable and we should face up to that.

2) The costs of pollution are likely to be non-linear as the initial increments of pollution probably have very low cost. I've always though that under-populated countries in Africa are vastly UNDER-polluted, their air quality is probably vastly inefficiently low compared to Los Angeles or Mexico City. Only the lamentable facts that so much pollution is generated by non-tradable industries (transport, electrical generation) and that the unit transport costs of solid waste are so high prevent world welfare enhancing trade in air pollution and waste.

3) The demand for a clean environment for aesthetic and health reasons is likely to have very high income elasticity. [the demand increases when income levels increase]. The concern over an agent that causes a one in a million change in the odds of prostrate cancer is obviously going to be much higher in a country where people survive to get prostrate cancer than in a country where under 5 mortality is is 200 per thousand.... "

Summers stance on the export of pollution to developing countries had a marked impact on US environmental policy:

In 1994, "virtually every country in the world broke with Mr. Summers' Harvard-trained "economic logic" ruminations about dumping rich countries' poisons on their poorer neighbors, and agreed to ban the export of hazardous wastes from OECD to non-OECD [developing] countries under the Basel Convention. Five years later, the United States is one of the few countries that has yet to ratify the Basel Convention or the Basel Convention's Ban Amendment on the export of hazardous wastes from OECD to non-OECD countries. The 1997 Asian Crisis: Dress Rehearsal for Things to Come

In the course of 1997, currency speculation instrumented by major financial institutions directed against Thailand, Indonesia and South Korea was conducive to the collapse of national currencies and the transfer of billions of dollars of central bank reserves into private financial hands. Several observers pointed to the deliberate manipulation of equity and currency markets by investment banks and brokerage firms.

While the Asian bailout agreements were formally negotiated with the IMF, the major Wall Street commercial banks (including Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup and J. P. Morgan) as well as the "big five" merchant banks (Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley and Salomon Smith Barney) were "consulted" on the clauses to be included in the Asian bail-out agreements. [Note: These are 1997 denominations of major financial institutions]

The US Treasury in liaison with Wall Street and the Bretton Woods institutions played a central role in negotiating the bailout agreements. Both Larry Summers and Timothy Geithner, were actively involved on behalf of the US Treasury in the 1997 bailout of South Korea:

[In 1997] "Messrs. Summers and Geithner worked to persuade Mr. Rubin to support financial aid to South Korea. Mr. Rubin was wary of such a move, worrying that providing money to a country in dire straits might be a losing proposition..." (WSJ, November 8, 2008)

What happened in Korea under advice from Deputy Treasury Secretary Summers et al, had nothing to do with "financial aid".

The country was literally ransacked. Undersecretary of the Treasury David Lipton was sent to Seoul in early December 1997. Secret negotiations were initiated. Washington had demanded the firing of the Korean Finance Minister and the unconditional acceptance of the IMF "bailout".

A new finance minister, who happened to be former IMF and World Bank official, was appointed and immediately rushed off to Washington for "consultations" with his former IMF colleague Deputy Managing Director Stanley Fischer.

"The Korean Legislature had met in emergency sessions on December 23. The final decision concerning the 57 billion dollar deal took place the following day, on Christmas Eve December 24th, after office hours in New York. Wall Street’s top financiers, from Chase Manhattan, Bank America, Citicorp and J. P. Morgan had been called in for a meeting at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Also at the Christmas Eve venue, were representatives of the big five New York merchant banks including Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley and Salomon Smith Barney. And at midnight on Christmas Eve, upon receiving the green light from the banks, the IMF was allowed to rush 10 billion dollars to Seoul to meet the avalanche of maturing short-term debts.

The coffers of Korea’s central Bank had been ransacked. Creditors and speculators were anxiously awaiting to collect the loot. The same institutions which had earlier speculated against the Korean won were cashing in on the IMF bailout money. It was a scam. "Strong economic medicine" is the prescription of the Washington Consensus. "Short term pain for long term gain" was the motto at the World Bank during Lawrence Summers term of as World Bank Chief Economist. What we dealing with is an entire " old boys network" of officials and advisers at the Treasury, the Federal Reserve, the IMF, World Bank, the Washington Think Tanks, who are in permanent liaison with leading financiers on Wall Street.

Whoever is chosen by Obama's Transition team will belong to the Washington Consensus.

The 1999 Financial Services Modernization Act

What happened in October 1999 is crucial.

In the wake of lengthy negotiations behind closed doors, in the Wall Street boardrooms, in which Larry Summers played a central role, the regulatory restraints on Wall Street’s powerful banking conglomerates were revoked "with a stroke of the pen".

Larry Summers worked closely with Senator Phil Gramm (1985-2002),chairman of the Senate Banking committee, who was the legislative architect of the the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act, signed into law on November 12, 1999 (See Group Photo above). (For Complete text click US Congress: Pub.L. 106-102). As Texas Senator, Phil Gramm was closely associated with Enron.

In December 2000 at the very end of the Clinton mandate, Gramm introduced a second piece of legislation, the so-called Gramm-Lugar Commodity Futures Modernization Act, which paved the way for the speculative onslaught in primary commodities including oil and food staples.

"The act, he declared, would ensure that neither the sec nor the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (cftc) got into the business of regulating newfangled financial products called swaps—and would thus "protect financial institutions from overregulation" and "position our financial services industries to be world leaders into the new century." Phil Gramm was McCain's first choice for Secretary of the Treasury.

Under the FSMA new rules – ratified by the US Senate in October 1999 and approved by President Clinton – commercial banks, brokerage firms, hedge funds, institutional investors, pension funds and insurance companies could freely invest in each others businesses as well as fully integrate their financial operations.

A "global financial supermarket" had been created, setting the stage for a massive concentration of financial power. One of the key figures behind this project was Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers, in liaison with David Rockefeller. Summers described the FSMA as "the legislative foundation of the financial system of the 21th century". That legislative foundation is among the main causes of the 2008 financial meltdown.

Financial Disarmament

There can be no meaningful solution to the crisis, unless there is a major reform in the financial architecture, implying inter alia the freezing of speculative trade and the "disarming of financial markets". The project of disarming financial markets was first proposed by John Maynard Keynes in the 1940s as a means to the establishment of a multipolar international monetary system. (See J.M. Keynes, Activities 1940-1944, Shaping the Post-War World: The Clearing Union, The Collected Writings of John Maynard Keynes, Royal Economic Society, Macmillan and Cambridge University Press, Vol. XXV, London 1980, p. 57).

Main Street versus Wall Street

Where are Obama's "Main Street appointees"? Namely individuals who respond to the interests of people across America. There are no labor or community leaders on Obama's list for key positions.

The President-elect is appointing the architects of financial deregulation.

Meaningful financial reform cannot be adopted by officials appointed by Wall Street and who act on behalf of Wall Street.

Those who set the financial system ablaze in 1999, have been called back to turn out the fire.

The proposed "solution" to the crisis under the "bailout" is the cause of further economic collapse.

There are no policy solutions on the horizon.

The banking conglomerates call the shots. They decide on the composition of the Obama Cabinet. They also decide on the agenda of the Washington Financial Summit (November 15, 2008) which is slated to lay the groundwork for the establishment of a new "global financial architecture".

The Wall Street blueprint has already been discussed behind closed doors: the hidden agenda is to establish a unipolar international monetary system, dominated by US financial power, which in turn would be protected and secured by US military superiority.

Neoliberalism with a "Human Face"

There is no indication that Obama will break his ties to his Wall Street sponsors, who largely funded his election campaign.

Goldman Sachs, J. P. Morgan Chase, Citigroup, Bill Gates' Microsoft are among his main campaign contributors.

Warren Buffett, among the the world's richest individuals, not only supported Barak Obama's election campaign, he is a member of his transition team, which plays a key role deciding the composition of Obama's cabinet.

Unless there is a major upheaval in the system of political appointments to key positions, an alternative Obama economic agenda geared towards poverty alleviation and employment creation is highly unlikely.

What we are witnessing is continuity.

Obama provides a " human face" to the status quo. This human face serves to mislead Americans on the nature of the economic and political process.

The neoliberal economic reforms remain intact.

The substance of these reforms including the "bailout" of America's largest financial institutions ultimately destroys the real economy, while spearheading entire areas of manufacturing and the services economy into bankruptcy.
