Marriage Equality Supporters Rally at the Y

Supporters of marriage equality rallied tonight in Ojai's "Y" intersection in an enthusiastic show of opposition to Prop 8 and support for equal rights. By its end, the gathering numbered 120 to 150 people, including members of the Santa Paula and Ventura congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Church. There was an impressive and perhaps unexpected amount of honking, waving, and smiling from passing motorists. For balance, two large trucks attempted to squeal their tires and speed aggressively away, only to slam on their brakes and risk collision with people waiting to turn into the shopping center parking lot. One of these vehicles was pursued by the police.

THANK YOU ALL for the peaceful and effective demonstration of local support! I hope that the police caught that truck -- beside spewing a large brown cloud of diesel fumes, it nearly jumped the curb and hit not only women and children, but also the lone "Yes" supporter who was ironically standing directly under the "Do Not Pass" sign!

Yes, it was wonderful to be part of the ring of no-on-8 supporters circling the Y and to witness the waves, honking and thumbs up. For me, adding to the feeling of community was the blessing of waking to rain this morning. TOT

I loved last night - it was like a party! I loved seeing all the heterosexual people - men and women holding hands supporting the right of two men or two women to be married. We have come a long way in the last 5, 10, 20 and 40 years.

Last night was so wonderful and hopeful. It was great to see so many people out there in support! It was far more than I had anticipated. Than you all for standing on the side of love!

I am really sorry I missed this!
I was absolutely horrified to find that my next-door neighbor recently donated a whopping $1000 to YES of 8. The link spk provided has been updated:

This morning a man is canvassing my neighborhood with YES on 8 door tags. He did not have the courage to knock on my door (perhaps it was my NO on 8 sign), but I saw him and followed him with the door tag, asked him to take it back and told him, "My husband and I do not agree with what you are doing." He took the tag and apologized.
