Presidential Debate - The Obvious Choice

Presidential Debate - Pro McCain Editorial

McCain obviously won the debate. John McCain had the demeanor of a true leader where as Obama sounded like the junior senator that he is. All Obama could do was to try to one up McCain on the points he was making instead of actually having his own clear concept of the issues at hand. Perhaps this was part of his pre-debate training as a way of countering McCain’s knowledge of the issues. With Obama’s history of heavy smoking, until recently, it gives one pause as to his stability. He has only been off nicotine for a relatively short time. And the health risks associated with heavy smoking, namely lung cancer, I for one would be worried about his health and that he appears to be underweight. What kind of shape would we be in if Joe Biden, who has had two brain aneurisms, were to take over. Between Biden’s mental lapses and Obama’s post nicotine nervousness I would pray they wouldn’t have to make any critical decisions during his time as president.

On the issue of the Iraq war I commend Obama’s admission that McCain was correct on the deployment of the surge even after he had criticized it at the time. Unfortunately, had Obama implemented his plan for Iraq we would be turning our back on the Iraqi people and the insurgents would again gain the upper hand and we would be back where we started from. Obama kept up his lame “ I gotch ya” strategy trying to sound smart by discounting the comments by the President of Iran, Ahmadinejad. Trying to deflect the issue of talking with a leader who is as close to a modern Hitler as anyone. Obama seemed like he was making himself out to be a modern Neville Chamberlain. Anyone’s grandparents would be dumbfounded by such naivety.

Obama’s notion that we can sit down and have tea with a leader that has vowed to wipe Israel off the map has really brought into sharp relief the difference between these two candidates. Where Teddy Roosevelt said once “ walk softly and carry a big stick” Obama’s seems to be saying “lets all sing kumbaya together” . Not something we want when leading our country.

I was encouraged that Obama made a positive overture with respect to nuclear power. Whether he is now coming around to supporting nuclear power wholeheartedly is anyone’s guess. Since he seems to be beholden to the democratic stance on the subject, it’s hard for me to believe he would fight for it if the democrat majority opposed him. He also has come around on the subject of drilling simply because of the groundswell of opinion by the general public.

Is this serious or a spoof?

Sounds like a spoof. But one can never tell these days.

I was on the fence before this post but after reading this the blatantly obvious choice is Obama. Imagine these two men in a 2 mile race around the track. McCain would have a heart attack some where around the quarter mile mark. Obama could win running backwards while smoking a ciggarette.

Is that really the best you could do Cox? Laughable.

You're on to something. This skinny guy looks nowhere near as healthy as this old guy.

I fear for your reading comprehension Brian. One of the main points of my editorial was the fact that McCain, once again, evinced no knowledge as to who is the leader of Iran . The real leader of Iran has never said anything like what the side-show freak Ahmadinejad has said about Israel. Further, last time I checked we were electing the President of the United States, not the Prime Minister of Israel. Obama has never said he want's to meet with Ahmadinejad. My whole point was that if you do not know who leads the country you repeatedly call a "terrorist nation", you have no business being President.

And if you're going to quote Teddy Roosevelt, you might want to put a little more thought into what he said. Speaking softly means using negotiation and state craft to humbly deal with international relations while at the same time having the military might to back up those same negotiations. McCain was not speaking softly when he was singing "Bomb, bomb, bomb...bomb, bomb Iran", or when he insulted Pakistan by calling it a failed state, or when he snickered and sneered about North Korea. He was essentially shouting incoherent threats. This while our military has been stretched to the breaking point.

Be serious.

Sarah Palin is an ignorant, white trash idiot and anyone who supports her is admitting that they are one too. As a woman, I find it astonishing that any member of my sex could support such an ignorant, white trash, uneducated, untraveled, pathetic excuse for a human being. Many women have worked hard to compete on an even playing field and Palin just makes women look like the cheap sperm receptacle that she has modeled herself after. If someone hasn't traveled outside the United States, they don't even have a right to make decisions on a State level of government and Sarah Palin should have her children removed from her custody for being such a failure as a mother. I feel sorry for any woman (or indeed man) who is ill-educated enough to even contemplate voting for her. Anyone with such leanings should be relocated to Alaska and be removed of their right to vote. It's just so sad to see people with McCain bumper stickers in Ojai - they're just advertising their pathetic, white trash, illiterate ignorance. McCain supporters should have less rights than animals.

Oh my ! I feel like I should wash after that last post.

I agree. The McCain bumper stickers are mostly on cheap, cut price pick up trucks driven by people who look like the closest they came to college was wiping the tables in the college canteen. There really should be a mandatory (sorry to McCain/Palin voters but you can use an online dictionary to find out the meaning of the word) intelligence test before someone is allowed to vote. I just feel sorry for people who want to vote for McCain and his ignorant whore. Their children are often in the armed services because they were too poor to go to college and they just don't read very much. So sad. Never mind. Most of these people will soon be priced out of the neighborhood and moving out of state.

Rennee/Noelle - you're the same person using the same IP address. And your comments are horrendous. Try to think of yourself as a global citizen once in a while before opening your virtual mouth.

Well, I have to add my five cents here and I am sooooooo proud that the majority of Ojai residents support Obama. And I agree, Sarah Palin is a JOKE and McCain is a complete relic of the 20th Century. It's such a shame that the McBush minority in Ojai likes to spend its time stealing Obama yard signs. I get the feeling that most McCain supporters are over 50, uneducated and afraid of change. In five weeks they'll choke on their own ignorance.

The writer of this article has just proved that he is not a journalist. "The obvious choice"? Has the writer ever heard of journalistic impartiality? Sooooooooooo out of touch. I suggest he climbs back into his SUV and takes the long drive back to 1980. He might like it better back there. Barack Obama was clearly the victor and hopefully McCain's diapers will overflow on live tv.

I think this says it all...

GO OBAMA!

What's up with the Ojai Post? Since when did it become a spokesmouth for the American McCain Nazi Republican party? McCain is a fat old Bush loving moron and Palin is ridiculous. And so is this article.

OJAI PROUDLY SUPPORTS BARRACK OBAMA. All you gotta do is look at the signs in peoples yards. They are all in support of Obama. The Ojai Post should retract this article. It was paid for by the California Republican Party and it can be proved :)

This article reads like it was written by a 5 year old from Alaska. The author should get out more and turn off Faux News. What a joke. McCain should stick to sucking on his dentures.

Brian, I just hope that you are not allowed to teach children. Your grasp of reality is fragile. I suggest you go immediately to the nearest recruitment office and sign up for three tours in Baghdad. But then again, war mongering hawks like you never actually do things like that do they Brian? You just sit there and preach your love of war and let others do the fighting.

Cox, you are a JOKE. Do you have pictures of Palin in your office? lmao

I'm cancelling my subscription to the Post due to Mr. Cox's consistent amateurish attempts at sentence composition, impartiality and apparent prejudice. I encourage other literate subscribers do the same.

Note to "Tyler" - You sir, should appreciate the fact that his article by Mr. Cox is so overflowing with "horrendous" zealous prejudice that the posters have EVERY right to respond with such polar revulsion. Go sell phony repugnicant morality elsewhere, we're all sold out here.

SARAH PALIN STATES THAT SHE BELIEVES THAT PEOPLE AND DINOSAURS COEXISTED 6000 YEARS AGO - HERE'S THE LINK

Sarah Palin is dumber than a horse's ass.

Unfortunately, had Obama implemented his plan for Iraq we would be turning our back on the Iraqi people and the insurgents would again gain the upper hand and we would be back where we started from.

No Brian, we wouldn't. We would not be in Iraq if this country had implemented Obama's policy on Iraq. We would not be threatened by Iraqi WMDs because they did not exist. We would not be threatened by Saddam Hussein because we never were. We would retain the friendship of the world and would not have stained our history with Gitmo, torture, Abu Ghraib, kidnaping, indefinite detention, etc. et.al. We would be at least $700 Billion richer (funny how the Bushies seem fixated on $700 Billion as the measure of their blunders - is that some kind of magic number?). We probably would not be in the economic crisis we are in right now.

Ninety percent of Iraqis believe they were better off under Saddam Hussein.

http://www.angus-reid.com/polls/view/14282

They don't want us there, and wish we had never come. Why do you want to add troops? Because some whacked out freak holed up in a cave hooked to a kidney dialysis machine agrees with McCain that "Iraq is the central front in the war on terror"?

Last I checked, agreeing with Osama bin Laden was not considered a favorable test of one's judgment. Most people would like to see that guy captured or killed. Your guys haven't been able to accomplish that simple task in eight years. Vote Obama - he'll capture bin Laden within the first ten days, and then we can move on to the long list of other important things we need to get done.

You gus are really mean.Is ojai running out of "Medical Marijuana"?

I'm voting for Obama but I think that most of the posts here are extremely rude to Brian for posting his viewpoint. Just because you don't agree with him, does there have to be insults and name calling? It is very depressing to come to the ojaipost sometimes.

Keep writing Brian. I enjoy reading your views.

I second Donna Lloyd.

I agree that there is no reason for personal attacks on Brian. However, I sand by my reading comprehension jab because I know he can take it in the spirit I meant it.

On the other "mean" posts. Comment's 5 & 7 and probably many of the more hyperbolic comments can be attributed to some, possibly paid, Republican troll working for the McCain campaign itself. Tyler confirmed that they are coming from the same IP. This highlights several comments I've made in the wake of the McCain VP pick that it was a calculated political move to try and paint Democrats as elitist liberals. Hence all of the references by this troll to Palin being a red neck, etc. Those comments are egregious, but they are not coming from the usual OjaiPost community and they are certainly not coming from liberals.

The whole Palin pick was designed to allow McCain to pretend that the Democrats are latte-drinking, volvo-driving, over-educated elitists who hate "real" Americans. Looking at these comments from this prospective and the become transparent indeed. The real problem with the Palin pick is that McCain would actually make such a choice based solely on a cynically manipulative political tactic. It goes to his lack of judgment. That he could choose someone who is clearly not up to the task based on a cynical political strategy, when it is entirely likely that she would have to succeed to the executive in the event of his death is appalling. He's 72 years old! He's had multiple cancerous tumors removed from his face as can be seen clearly in the picture posted in comment #3. According to actuarial There is a 1 in 5 chance that he won't make it through the first term.

"Yes, Obama claims to have quit — and by doing so, he did reduce his risk of smoking-related disease. But the science tells us that it is naive to think that quitting after years of smoking returns you to the state of health of a never-smoker. In fact, after enough smoking, some health effects are irreversible. How long and how much one smokes determines the extent of health risk after quitting.

More than half of all lung cancers are diagnosed in ex-smokers. And it's not just lung cancer. Ex-smokers face long term risks for pancreatic, esophageal, bladder, and kidney cancers, to name a few.

A 1998 study reported that the amount of fatty deposits in the carotid artery depended on total pack-years of tobacco exposure in a lifetime, not whether a patient currently smokes. A smoker's excess risk of a stroke doesn't return to that of nonsmokers until at least five, or as long as 20, years after quitting. It is possible that Obama would have to serve a hypothetical four smoke-free terms before his stroke risk returned to normal.

So how long and how much did Obama smoke? The campaign refuses to say, but we know he smoked a lot over his life. Based on accounts of his friends, we know he was smoking by the time he was a freshman at Occidental College three decades ago. He admits to having smoked up to ten cigarettes a day, but he said he usually smoked closer to four or five daily.

Most people underestimate how much they smoke, but let's take him at his word. Let's also assume he really did quit when he said he did, although he admits to having fallen off the wagon on occasion.

So he smoked for at least a quarter-century. That's more than 50,000 cigarettes — and maybe as many as 70,000.

Just because he's young, looks great and exercises doesn't mean he's completely healthy. And given what an important figure he is, to ignore his smoking history is to miss an educational opportunity. "

SPK, I harbor ill will against you or anyone else, I simply was trying give you back a little of what you have been dishing out !

MT,

Your incoherent gibbering is starting to sound like so many macacks flinging their excrement in the trees. The only game going on here is your game of hide and seek with sanity.

SPK, I harbor ill will against you or anyone else, I simply was trying give you back a little of what you have been dishing out!

Just a typo, I suppose.

BC/observer, I take no offense. Sure, Obama smoked. Not as healthy as never smoking--I get it. But what's your point? Are you equating both candidates relative health? Seems like a stretch to me. But okay, I'll play along.

If Obama wins and subsequently dies in office, Biden will be President. If McCain dies, Palin will be President.

I rest my case.

Interesting juxtaposition of comments above. Rothchilds vs. Infighting Local Pols.

Question is: are the Rothchilds real or is it a conspiracy illusion? For that matter, is Templar and Messiah Twain real? I know there is a Millenium Twain because I've seen and talked to him. Ah, the benefits of living in a real, earth community.

If the Red Shields are not real, is there a real entity behind them, pulling their strings? How far back can we push this speculation? Again, nice to have a real community. I'll ask the real Twain when I see him, or is it a her posing as a male?

Somewhere there is a standard of reality to stabililze the spinning. You have yours and I have mine. Nice to have a choice, isn't it?

What is real and what isn't? The mind games are awesome. Imagine, in Ojai are paid McClain agents who pose as redneck blues making violent comments upon innocent God loving Palin to make peace loving blues look angry red. Confuse. Spin. Emotionalize. Terrorize.

"Look out, kid
It's something you did
God knows when
But you're doing it again."

"They put ideas in his head he thought were his."

There's only one standard of standards for me that's real: Love.

Is it love to kill people over money; to kill animals over money (and even to eat them); to enslave animals as pets as co-dependents to fulfil human emotional deficits?

I don't think so. But then I have a sick mind according to some in our healthy war economy.

Is there a connection between killing animals (body and spirit) and killing people. Nah. Couldn't be.

Is there a connection between driving an SUV, living in a 5000 sq. foot house with a portfolio safe and 4M Iraqis driven from their homes (not counting the 1M dead who stayed behind)? Nah. That thought comes from a sick mind.

Is there a connection between those who see a Rothchild conspiracy and those who don't? Is there a connection who between those who think 911 was an inside job and those who don't? Nah. Them folks come from different planets, the parallel universes just happen to be touching for a brief Millenial Second here.

It's such a comfort to get back to Ojai where I don't have to think. I can just be. One with the beauty of it all.

Is that love? Uh. Let me think. No. That seems like denial. I do think about the glories of war, though, and all that money going somewhere. Is that love? Well, maybe corrupted love.

Anyway, glad to see not everyone is braindead. Even the violent confrontations show caring one way or the other. It doesn't really matter to the Rothchilds if Biden or Palin (or Putin) or that matter is in the White House (you know that one with the bloodstains). As long as there's a positive cash flow.

I love my mind. I don't think it's sick at all. Just limited. Let's see I think my IQ was 112 in high school. Probably gone down now that I'm 68 to 68. I might have TBI from my bicycle crash.

Nothing like fun, my mother used to say. That is until smoking killed her. Is there a connection between her and Obama. Yah. They both had a mother. Like MT would say: sacred relations. Now that's love or something quite close.

I love my name: Dennis. Rhymes with Menace.

Dennis,
Damn you're a self absorbed bore!

London, 30 Sep 2008 -- the Dow Jones industrials dropped 6 percent this evening as the US House of Representatives by a large margin rejected the JP Morgan bankers bailout package of 'lameduck' President George Bush.

a stunned British crown was echoed when Sir Jeremy Thompson commented "This is the most monumental day in world financial history."

markets around the globe are expected to swing wildly with the news of this apparent bid for freedom by 21st century Americans.

in Tokyo ...

Is that a real quote from the FT? I haven't checked.

Bailout fails. For now, but it will be back. Democrats voted for it and Republicans against. What does that tell you? Both parties are blaming the other.

It's the old bait and switch. The first was so bad it was bound to fall. Switch to the second which will be mitigated enough to pass. In the meantime, terror will work and the masters will get their way. Nothing like loss of money to produce severe anxiety.

Don't listen to me. I'm a self absorbed bore. I definitely don't understand money machinations. What's to understand when it's purposely obfuscated so it can't be understood except by those writing the code.

The cruel, corrupt, sadistic, murderous, deceitful, hypocritical, satanic (help me out, add a few more) system deserves to end. Those who now are so desperately trying to save it as truly self-absorbed. They cannot see or feel the suffering of millions upon millions who are tortured by it.

I may be self absorbed but I'm not dead, or deaf to the cries of the wounded like myself.

The money system is self distructing. Believe it or not, there is justice and there is karma. Tough love, some call it.

I will also feel the anxiety in my gut as my money is stolen. There's no mystery about it. The robbers are right there on the TV in your face; you know, the ones who want to save you.

I don't blame anyone but myself. I should have seen it coming but I didn't. "A sucker and his money are soon parted."

The Rothchilds (or whoever they are symbols for) are laughing all the way to the bank. So what? She who laughs last, laughs best.

"This is the most monumental day in world financial history."

A joyful day, I'd say!

"a bid for freedom by 21st century Americans."

Wow! I like that!

What would happen if we don't do the 'bail out' at all? Is anyone brave enough to find out?

I am.

Anyone else?

I just really don't like being 'scared' or pressured into things (like they tried and accomplished with the Iraq thing) In my little life, it always turns out better for me if I don't let fear lead me. I think it may be the same 'collectively' too. Risky, but it is risky either way.

I'd rather take my chances on 'freedom'!

So far government proves itself very incompetent and power hungry no matter whose running things.

Where can we vote a "Bid for freedom!" Nice! Yes

Since both candidates stand for war, and since both candidates are puppets of the elite, who cares who won the debate?

The ballot box has been largely irrelevant for decades.

NEW YORK, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Record level $1,100 Trillion in JP Morgan Chase Hedge Fund hangs over America if US Congress fails to satisfy banker demands for taxpayer bailout. JP Morgan International Chairman David Rockefeller, "When things go bad it’s a 'crisis' and everyone runs to Uncle Sam."

FRANKFURT, Sept 29 (Reuters) - European shares plummeted to a three-and-a-half year closing low on Monday, with banks falling heavily, as the fallout from the UK credit crisis escalated on both sides of the Atlantic.

TOKYO, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikkei Stock Index (news) average is expected to fall on Tuesday after the Dow industrials plunged following America's rejection of a $700 billion JP Morgan bank bailout, with the Nikkei possibly hitting a new low for the year.

sorry about the typo

"For more than a century, ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure - one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it."

what typo? oh!, should read $110 Trillion JP Morgan Hedge Fund blackmail, not $1,100 Trillion!

Rocky's Hungry Hedge Fund is circling around a 100 Trillion US, up from the $75 Trillion in March. That Bear represents just over 1 Trillion in cash, leveraged for the last two weeks at 'gnarly a hundred to one... which volume actually dropped today as the House Republi-Cans staged their innocence play. London, 30 Sept 2008 -- The head of the European Commission said today that "America has only got itself to blame for the financial crisis" in which it finds itself. Jose Manuel Barroso said the crisis was largely the result of the US failing to balance its budget. He said Europe had every reason to keep "solid and reasonable rules" to keep its budgets stable.

Nevertheless German and European leaders along with the Crown all exhorted American leaders to immediately sign the latest new $700 Billion US debt obligation.

Overnight the Tokyo Stock Exchange's benchmark Nikkei-225 index fell 544 points or 4.6%, while in Hong Kong the Hang Seng dropped 3.6%.

American stocks went into a tailspin after the House of Representatives voted 228 to 205 against the proposed $700bn (£380bn) rescue plan.

The Dow plummeted by more than 7% at the news - its biggest ever daily fall.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown described the vote in America as "very disappointing", but insisted the US Government was taking "decisive action" to maintain stability in the UK.

"The only surprise is how long it has taken for the Americans to see through their own government's disingenuity."

And what are you interpreting this to mean, Sky?

"The only surprise is how long it has taken for the Americans to see through their own government's disingenuity."

Prime Minister urged to GUARANTEE all UK bank deposits!

LONDON, 30 Sept 2008 -- Pressure is mounting on Gordon Brown to guarantee all savings in UK banks after the Irish government took the unprecedented stop of underwriting deposits at the Republic's six main banks for the next two years.

Analysts suggested the Irish move could see a wave of money going across the Irish Sea as UK residents seek safety from the impact of the credit crunch. UK protection currently only covers the first £35,000 of any deposits.

A temporary guarantee for all deposits in the British banking system would reassure the public that their savings are safe from shockwaves "across the Atlantic", said Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg.

"We are now in the eye of an economic storm," he added. "The financial system urgently requires some breathing space, now."

Brian Lenihan, Ireland's finance minister, stepped in after shares in Ireland's main banks collapsed yesterday on fears it would see the next round of bank failures.

Anglo Irish Bank (Dublin: CKL1.IR - news) , the specialist property lender, plunged 45%, while Irish Life & Permanent, the bancassurer and the republic's largest mortgage provider, fell 34%. Allied Irish Banks (Dublin: AIB.IR - news) dropped nearly 16% while Bank of Ireland (Dublin: BIR.IR - news) lost 15%

The Irish Government had already raised the protection for depositors to €100,000 from €20,000, but reports of big withdrawals by some large customers yesterday prompted the Irish government to widen the scheme. Deposits with Allied Irish Bank, Bank of Ireland, Anglo Irish Bank, Irish Life and Permanent, Irish Nationwide Building Society and the Educational Building Society, are all now guaranteed. The scheme also covers covered bonds, senior debt and dated subordinated debt.

"This very important initiative by the government is designed to safeguard the Irish financial system and to remedy a serious disturbance in the economy caused by the recent turmoil in the international financial markets in anticipation of the US government defaulting today," a statement from the Irish government said.

I lived in Ireland a few years ago. It was clear even then that Ireland was being seduced by the American Dream. It seems they have bought it hook, line and sinker. Too bad. I'll miss the real Ireland.
