Kathy and Donna, actually the cigarette/alcohol analogy stands up whereas the comparison to stabbing is absurd. No one is paying to be stabbed.

I’m stunned that Jock thinks that smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol is the same as using meth. Please tell me you are just posting this to piss people off. Meth is illegal. That should be the end of whatever else you feel like saying.
I’m happy two less dealers are done for in this town.

To those who protest the arrest…it’s one thing to have someone actively growing/selling pot next door to you (which I don’t enjoy) but it’s another to have someone dealing meth. Meth addicts are the walking dead, and anyone who feeds this group is likely devoid of any empathy for fellow humans. What’s the difference from profiting of the slow poisoning of another person and stabbing ‘em? PBS FRONTLINE once had a great show on Meth. If you haven’t seen it, and think it’s a fair recreational drug, you ought to do your homework. I”m not a cop fan, but in this case, I can’t complain…and I’m sure the neighbors are quite happy to see the dealer going away. I would be.

I wonder if these police persons are at home right now smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol.
I wonder how these police persons would feel if someone came into their homes and took them to jail for either of these two pleasurable, health-destroying pursuits.

Nothing wrong with staying abreast of what our police are doing. Although might I suggest that rather than use just the Sheriff’s PR as exclusive source, it might be good to use some independent sources too, ala the Garberville public radio’s “civil liberties alert,” in which citizens can anonymously call in and the announcers will announce where the helicopters are, where the checkpoints are, whether sheriffs are gearing up for a raid, whether police are arresting or harassing demonstrators, who is being ticketed improperly, which officers should be watched closely for going over the line, etc. … you know. Perhaps put a button in the corner of the Post where anonymous “civil liberties alerts” can be posted.
Might also consider adding to these announcements, as a sort of routine header: “All suspects are innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not evidence of guilt of any crime.” And, consider whether it might be appropriate to redact the names of arrestees.
