Latest on the Matilija Dam Removal
OVN has an article... an excerpt:
Relocating the removed sediment in the amount of 2 to 6 million cubic yards will be no mean feat. The people who attended the meeting apprehensively sat through the first half hour of slide show presentation reviewing the history of the dam and asked a few questions as the anxiety among them grew more vocal. Besides doubt that the levee, planned to be built south of Meyer Road near the Ventura River trailhead, would serve to protect their community from flooding, several people expressed concern that the levee would, instead, increase the dangers of flooding to their homes and properties by changing the contours of the river bed.
And this from a stellar supporting cast member... blah blah blah, me me me. Lovely.

Tyler, I was at the first meeting of Phase II design and planning for the Matilija Dam removal and river restoration project. Important to know that no final design has been agreed upon yet. There are a couple options being looked at. Yet, you're correct the energy is leaning towards the trailhead location. I personally think that both locations, the trailhead and the area near 150/Baldwin could be utilized.
Living at Matilija Sanctuary,(which is now in escrow, the county is purchasing it back from the current owners)just below the dam, I have been in close contact with the county and offering my input regarding that property. Primarily, a suggestion to have it be an environmental and Chumash cultural education and visitor center. Paul Jenkins, of Surfrider, told me this was suggested prior and we're hoping the county takes the leading edge on this.
There is a meeting coming up that is open to the public. I encourage anyone interested in this issue come.
The next Matilija Design Oversight Group meeting is being held Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The meeting will take place in the Public Works building out at the Saticoy Yard, which is located on Los Angeles Avenue in Saticoy.
If you are traveling north on the 101, exit the Vineyard Avenue offramp and turn right. Proceed on Vineyard to Los Angeles Avenue and turn left, then make a right on County Drive.
If you are coming from Ventura traveling on either Telephone Road or Telegraph Road, turn right on Wells Road, which becomes Los Angeles Avenue just past the railroad tracks. Turn left on County Drive.
One other thing - by Monday evening there will be a number of new items on the Matilija Dam website - www.matilijadam.org - for your review prior to Thursday's meeting.

The article attached to your link in this post gives the full picture of the meeting that took place. I heard about the hot springs property being bought by the county. Someone did tell me this was mentioned at the last Oversight Meeting. I just hope that beautiful land doesn't get trashed like the nearby areas, cable cars and the swimming hole off 33.
