Tyler-
I really like the listing of upcoming Ojai Events at the top of the opening page

Are you going to keep the events feed up there at the top of the page? If yes, this would be an incentive for me to place an events ad.

Thanks for the feedback. I am trying it out, with the intention of keeping it integrated. However, I don't like the one line of advertising from the provider, and I'd like the style sheet to be more flexible, so I can further modify the look and feel. I also have been checking out horizontal ticker tape versions.
I'll probably have to pay for a script (which is no big deal), but I wanted to see how well it integrates with the site first.

when i first saw the one-line ad i thought it was information for me as to how to subscribe.
i didn't click on it so i didn't realize it was an ad

It's not really an ad - more of a branding link from the service provider. Either way, I don't love it, but that's free for ya. As mentioned, if the events at the top are of interest, I'll find a paid solution that doesn't have that type of branding. Thanks.

Regarding the paid ads on Ojai Events, are the advertisers promised cross-promtion on the Ojai Post?
Comment #8 Posted by: Lisa Snider | August 11, 2008 11:40 AM
Ojai Events doesn't take paid ads at this point - people who post events are probably better referred to as "event organizers" rather than advertisers.
There is a charge for an "event posting", with costs per event ranging from $15 down to $2.50 depending on quantity. I have some relationships where certain organizations can post for free.
There is no promise of additional distribution, but event listings are also syndicated on ojainews.com.
I have a new network launching soon for Ventura County, where event listings will be free, and also will include syndicated events from a number of sources including Ojai Events.

My vote, for what it's worth, is to keep the two entities separate. I think it's fine, however, for authors to write about an upcoming event and link to where it's posted on your Ojai Events site.

What is your concern, Lisa?
And to add a thought, I spend a lot of money on content management for Ojai Events. It's by no means profitable, nor intended to be. Most importantly, it exists to be the community calendar, and giving it added visibility on the Post is a good way to do so.

Tyler, please keep this. It should have been put up a long time ago.

Thanks for your efforts in the community, Tyler, I'm always routing for your success. Would love to see a connection to a non-profit as you had envisioned.

Thanks Lisa, I am still figuring out how to dovetail my non-profit (TownGiving, which includes OjaiGiving.org) with the for-profit project (Emergencity) from a technology standpoint.
While it is somewhat on the backburner right now, I have every intention of providing increased visibility and opportunity to local non-profits, starting with Ojai.

Ahhh....the old back-handed compliment trick.

Hey, great ideas all should have been done a long time ago. What's backhanded about that?
