Tuscany

tuscany%20s%20gimignano.jpgI thought the OP could use a change of scenery on the front page! We are traveling to Tuscany in September. I am dreaming that this will be the view from the modest villa/apartment we have reserved. Has anyone been?

I am sooo jealous, Lisa. I've been to Rome and Venice but that was as a teenage backpacker with very little funds. I would love to take a dream vacation to Tuscany (and the Cinque Terra) and it is definitely on my list.

I was just in France a little while ago and the dollar/euro conversion rate, international transaction charges on my credit card, and a 19% VAT hurt the pocket book even more than I expected. But these types of trips are always worth it.

I hope you share some pics when you get back!

I have never quite understood the appeal of Tuscany.
It looks like Sonoma or Napa or Ojai but with a lot more people smoking.

My ex-wife and son are in Assisi now which I believe is in or near Tuscany. Apolonia says it's very beautiful and inspiring.

Dear Mick, I don't quite understand the appeal either, but that's why we're going. I hear it's a lot like Santa Ynez, too, but with different food, wine (like 2000 varietals), language and culture. I don't know that Tuscans smoke all that much compared to the city dwellers, but what the hell, if the mood strikes me I may light up right along with them.
