The Salad States of America?
TRUE or FALSE:
The motto of the United States, E pluribus unum, was taken from an ancient Roman salad recipe.
TRUE.
E pluribus unum ("From many, one") comes from Virgil's poem "Moretum," which describes how to make a garden salad.
So this Independence Day, have a salad; it's the only really patriotic thing to do. (Besides, reducing our meat consumption by just 10% does tremendous things to reduce the greenhouse gases used to process animals for eating, as well as the moral implications of how we do so...all of which spells physical and spiritual health for the greatest nation on earth)

If I promise to have some salad, can I still enjoy a bovine product or two?? However, if I do have a salad, I might give myself heartburn or acid reflux worrying about the possiblity of Salmonilla poisoning from the tomatoes or green onions or whatever it is that's contaminated this week.

i ate platefuls of locally produced and community-created food today, without any meat, worry, or discomfort.
Happy Independence Day!

Good lord Bill, aren't you afraid of "mad cow disease". It's a reality here in the US (I heard a recent warning on television) and there are many other countries that refuse to buy beef from us. I'd worry more about losing my balance and going nuts from eating a McDonald's burger then getting salmonella poisoning from a local yummy tomato. So eat all the local salad you want, especially from Farmer & the Cook, and you'll be healthy as a Cow.
BTW - Happy, Happy 4th of July - It was always such a fun holiday for my kids when they were young. We've always loved independence Day - we just never supported any more wars - after all, we're already independent - we don't have to prove it over and over again by protecting our independence from "perceived threats" or possibilites of maybe, we might, perhaps, not be independent, if, perhaps, someone might, in the near future, attack us.
