"Pastie Lady" Earth Friend Jen hits the LA Times
Amusing article in the LA Times on Ojai's own Jennifer Moss, aka Earth Friend Jen, aka the "Pastie Lady"...
Ojai's citizens, meanwhile, have divided into pro- and con-Pastie Lady camps, venting their opinions in the local newspaper nearly every week.
"Ojai tolerance is not eternal," local filmmaker Leland Hammerschmitt wrote in a guest editorial in the Ojai Valley News, in which he scolded Moss for her "naked narcissism." "You've had more than your day. Go away. Just stop."
But Moss, whose social activism appears to revolve around natural-fiber clothing and the healing powers of water, also has ardent defenders. They say "Earth Friend Jen" is not hurting anyone and that naysayers should leave her alone.
UPDATE - 7:15pm: We're getting a ridiculous amount of traffic from people searching for our resident-in-pasties, thanks to an article not just in the LA Times but on the AP. Hence the pages not rebuilding properly, and some other technical weirdness. If you're looking for more on EFJ, check out the video filmed by our own Mike Didj... Earth Friend Jen's Point of View
UPDATE - 7:55pm: Our fine hosting provider, Digital Housing , took a look at the undercoating, tweaked a few knobs and greased the thingometer. The site should be running a lot smoother... comment away.

I like Jennifer's quote:
"It's OK for children to play video games where they are killing each other, and it's patriotic to murder people in a war. But women's breasts in public? You better watch out!"

Regarding Jennifer Moss's one-woman political endeavor, Leland Hammerschmitt writes:
"Ojai tolerance is not eternal" . . .
Citing Jennifer's "naked narcissism," Leland scolds her:
"You've had more than your day. Go away. Just stop."
If Ojai can tolerate Leland Hammerschmitt's elitist arrogance, it can tolerate a young woman promoting nature, natural living, and natural fibers.

My wife and I are former Santa Barbara and Ventura nudists. We will be moving back to Ventura County this summer after years in Big Bear and LA. We are now in our 60's and wish to know how we can help Jennifer continue her mission.

Terry, Well at 60 years of age let's hope you don't join her. There probably is a reason you are 'former Santa Barbara and Ventura nudists' ACK excuse me while I poke out my mind's eye.

PLEASE HELP!!!! My boyfriend just eloped with Jen to Rose Valley. I ask you who in the hell is gonna pay for my coiffures, the lease on my Lexus and the $45k I owe on my credit cards? Not to mention future diamonds. Please contribute to my rescue fund at the local Ojai Valley Bank under the name Very Unhappy. It is tax deductible.

Promoting nudism is a very fine thing indeed. We should no longer allow the shadow of those who are driven by shame [related to sexuality and their bodies] control public policy on this important civil liberties topic. Surely, real leaders do exist who may show us the way toward a more enlightened way of viewing our bodies. If Jen's perturbations cause that leader to appear, tolerance of her adolescent and self possessed approach {which is indicative} of the individuation process, is worth the minor annoyance she represents. Jen does not have the maturity or integrity to be a leader, but she may just be nuts enough to lead us to one.

I agree with the uptight guy who says: EFJ has had her day. Now go away. I also agree with EFJ that nudity is beautiful, however some nudity is more beautiful than others. Sorry Jen, you are just not all that attractive. Maybe if EFJ had bigger boobs she might have more support-at least from me and others I know. Ojai deserves bigger and better representation!

What's wrong with 60 years of age? Aren't you supposed to be into the truth? The truth is we decay and die so why hide it?
Comment #19 Posted by: Anonymous | April 27, 2008 06:45 AM
OK. I know that this is silly, but that won't be a first for me so I'm going to say it anyway:
I truly believe that if you could fly over a modern war zone and somehow make everyone's clothes disappear, 99.99% of the people would stop fighting and stop trying to kill each other. Imagine what kind of effect a nudity ray of some sort would have in Congress, or in the White House, or during a presidential debate, or at the Fox Cable News studio -- wouldn't it be terribly difficult to maintain an overbearing and belligerent posture of any kind if you had suddenly been rendered stark raving nude? Wouldn't most people just kind of have to either get honest or get off the stage?

Image is everything.
At the very least, I'd like to see General Petreus without his medals, discussing his war plans wearing a T-shirt and modest boxer shorts.
No doubt about it, we are more easilly fooled when someone's clothes and hair portray a certain image. Witness the Pope's clothes, his elaborate hat and jewelry. Witness the faith we put in politicians, lawyers, etc., wearing expensive suits.
We should require all presidential candidates to show up in identical neutral hemp or organic cotton pajamas, no make-up or jewelry, to help us get past the image they are trying to portray, so we can better hear what it is they are actually saying.
Gurus know they are more impressive in robes, long hair and prayer beads.
Alas, while nudity adds a degree of transparency, the shock value wears off, and we murder naked people just as easilly, as history documents.

Wouldn't you like to see the Taliban, Al Queda and the carbombers in the same state?

This all seems to come down to fear of the near nude body -- only very slightly less covered than you will find on any beach (up top but not on the bottom) -- and ENVY that someone else has a body as incredibly great as Jen's and can get attention you are not getting and maybe never could get no matter how hard you worked for it. Nonetheless, she definitely is seeking the attention for her cause of mother earth.
Her's is definitely use of the theatrical -- her costume, her antics -- to bring attention to a cause. And if you've ever hung around with a bunch of theatrical types, you will know they are loaded up with idiosyncrasies and eccentricities. In her case, though, it is a street performance. But the street is necessary for it as without the street, her performance would flop. It is use of the street that draw the attention because that makes her performance quite unique, making it stand out.
But people are not recognizing their own psychological issues with nudity. Jen isn't the one who is wacky about nudity. Geez, what is so terrible about the human body? It is the work of God! It is not to be feared or to be found repugnant or sick. Look at the nude body as a work of art -- just like you would if you were looking at it in an art museum. The fact that you have had it pounded into your head since childhood that nudity is bad does not mean that nudity is bad. That would only mean that there is widespread societal psychological issues with it -- and those should be addressed no differently that any psychological issue. Yes, society has a psychological issue. It seems people with this psychological issue would have Jen thrown in jail because she does not have that hangup. Now that's sick.
As for whether Jen gets any pleasure out of the attention she gets by dressing so skimpily -- hey, the majority of women out there are dressing for attention! And plenty of them are not wearing all that much. Jen has merely made herself the top attention-getter -- and that sure will generate jealousy.
If this were in nearly any European country, it would attract nearly no attention. But here in sick America, it is a top national story. Now that's sick, and I find it very disturbing that it is going on. I do not find Jen's display at all disturbing; if anything, it is just refreshing.
In fact, if you want to deprive Jen of her attention, then everyone in Ojai should go naked. There would be nothing wrong with that. Jen would be commonplace.
I say treat of the sickos of Ojai -- keep Jen around.

Mother Earth aka Living Gaia, the Biosphere -- 95 percent dead, killed, past tense -- is happy to have you speaking on HER behalf, Mossy Jen!
Speaking for the Whales and Dolphins -- 99 percent eradicated -- that we may end ALL pollution, and return the oceans at least ten-fold to life.
Speaking for the Rainforests, and Wetlands, and Rivers -- and all HER living creatures -- eradicated 97 percent Planetwide ... that we may end our TEN-FOLD-OVERCONSUMPTION ... that we may start RETURNING the Rainforests, Wetlands, Rivers ... again Ten-Fold ... and start the process this year.
Note to Ojai Sheep: to start the process means that now we reduce our energy consumption, waste production, our consumerism -- now, by a factor of ten -- and invest our time instead in removing the development and excess roads and industry, and begin returning rainforest, wetlands, rivers ...
that we now BAN the ocean shipping, ocean fishing, ocean mining, ocean dumping, ocean MILITARY activities, ocean nuclear and waste dumping ... and bring the oceans back to life.
the Green Economy, of replaneting Mother Earth -- rather than the old Patriarchal idiocy of war and rapacity -- means our economy goes UP by a factor of ten ...
a Green Economy grows,
the War Economy SUCKS!

Millennium - "Mossy Jen" I doubt speaks for the earth. Mossy Jen speaks for herself. Her nakedness in my eyes, has never been a problem, it's her obnoxious manner that's the problem. Screaming, yelling and harassing people, that's the problem. If she would just dance joyously naked in the streets, celebrating the beauty and miracle of the earth and it's inhabitants (man and animal) and encourage others to respect and honor that, maybe people would be more inclined to accept her as a spokeswoman for the earth and peace. But as it is, she's more of a screaming maniac with or without clothes demanding attention for "her" cause.

I think we can cut through the nonsense on this entire issue. Let us engage in a little thought experiment if you will. Now, this is liable to be painful, and yes--oh yes, even ugly:
Let us imagine the filmmaker Leland Hammerschmitt wearing only pastries and a hemp G-string while skating down Ojai Ave.
you can clean up the vomit now

Excellent insight Dvorah- no problem with LOVING naked people- just aggressive ones bother me- naked or clothed. A lot. Don't bike angry. It's dangerous.

Second Dvorah's comments, I"ve seen and experienced her wrath

Jen is just another being manifested out of the ONE. I find it very interesting that people keep posting about her body. Regardless of what shape, size, or color the human body is glorious! Have we all been so conditioned by the media that we only think a woman has a beautiful body if she is thin with big breasts and a nice butt. What a narrow and lifeless world that view creates. Let's all open our minds and let in the beauty!

Thank you Mother Maitreyah/Earth and all her lovely little dingleberries - Your prayers and good wishes finally worked. I can now walk down the street in peace without being yelled at by a meshuganah with an agenda, screetching at everyone to take their clothes off and be more human - Thanks Millennium, I do love you...

on Jen's website -- see comment three above -- there is no discussion of Mother Earth, or healing Her. Only promotion of hemp clothing and Water ... no discussion of ending the consumerism and industry rapacity, no discussion of returning the RainForests, the Oceans, the Wetlands and Rivers, the Whales and Dolphins ... all our sacred relations.
Or has she proposed to end the world's 'War-Against-Water', the 95 percent eradication of the living wetlands, rivers, oceans? To return those sacred waters, and the living rainforests, water-planet, born of them?
Was there any discussion at all of healing Mother Earth, in ending the consumer War against the sacred, in Jen's video? I don't recall it ...
Or is she just auditioning for a job as tabloid cover girl?
[I am not at a terminal today with video capability.]
Google search shows 1660 "Jennifer Moss" Ojai results which seem to be all focused on pasties and 'bad vibes' ... nothing about healing Mother Earth, ending this economy of murder.
Jen?
