Do you need to put all the names on the front page. I like when the initial post is short and continues after the jump.
It's tragic young people are being killed, from any country, in any war.

anonymous, thanks for the feedback regarding front-page post length. i know that as an author that's something to consider each time i post. sometimes there's a clear and natural breaking point, and sometimes there doesn't seem to be.

for this one, part of the point is that these murders are inescapable...so there's no option for simply not-clicking and passing them by. thank you for your broader sentiment of compassion. let's end this thing.

Things that Carry Him by Chris Jones
Jones tells the story of how the body of Sergeant Joe Montgomery makes its way from a Baghdad suburb to its final resting place in a grave in Indiana.

Thanks for posting this, evan!

i just heard a heart-wrenching interview on KCLU yesterday with Marine Colonel Steve Beck, whose job it is to notify the families of the loss of a loved one in Iraq, and journalist Jim Sheeler, who accompanied Beck for a year and wrote a book about the experience, titled Final Salute: A Story of Unfinished Lives.

Listen to the interview here.
