Hillary took the occasion of Valentine's Day to initiate the new phase of her campaign.... the one I have been predicting.... phase four of the scorched earth policy against Obama. She literally held up boxing gloves to emphasize that she is coming out swinging. She accused Obama of offering nothing but speeches, and she said "words are cheap." Bill is back in action too.... he had the audacity to say on a radio talk show in Wisconsin that their campaign has been operating "on a shoestring." This is just a preview of what we may expect in the next two weeks.
If this is what the Clintons are capable of on Valentine's Day, who knows what they will come up with before Texas and Ohio on March 4.

"If this is what the Clintons are capable of on Valentine's Day, who knows what they will come up with" Oh please - how silly you sound. But here's a thought, if you think Valentine's Day requires a respite from taking strategic aims at political rivals - why don't YOU cool it for today?

I've always wondered about the idea that there should be cease-fires on holidays. That thing seems to happen quite a bit, particularly in the Middle East. If you can be friends during Ramadan, why can't you be friends the rest of the time? And does the US respect those sorts of things? Can we be friends any of the time?
Comment #3 Posted by: heather | February 14, 2008 03:43 PM
Heather- you are sadly misinformed.
In the "Yom Kippur War" the Egyptians and Syrians certainly didn't respect the Israelis during the holiest period of the Jewish year.
You need to stop living in a fantasy and come to grips with "realities".
I'm sorry to inform you of this basic requirement of a healthy and balanced life...

Hey there El Anon:
No offense, but what the hell is wrong with you these days? I have gone off on people too but (in my opinion anyway) they were more than deserving. Heather wrote nothing that should have engendered such an attack. What gives?
Comment #5 Posted by: LTOR | February 15, 2008 05:51 AM
I used to find El Anon's comments relatively insightful but anytime anything about the Middle East gets mentioned his sense of civility and measured comment seems to fly right out the window.
This rather acerbic approach to a particular topic (which I can somewhat understand - it's a very heated topic) has been leaching into his general manner around here for the past couple of months now. I hope he outgrows it. The Post had more than enough unnecessary vitrol before El Anon went over to the Dark Side.

Tanya & LTOR-
It has nothing to do with the middle east.
It has to do with a mindset that thinks colonics are the answer to anything.
I have given Heather a "mental colonic" that is priceless.
It is not an "attack".
The "Dark Side"?
I beg not.

Hurrah! The STARS are gone! It feels much more homey now...
Comment #9 Posted by: Suza | February 15, 2008 05:42 PM
maybe they're gone on your screen, but still there on mine
i kinda like them, though they don't seem to get too many votes one way or the other most of the time

El-A - I hate to say this, because you are so cynical - but you are hilarious!!!! I still can't stop laughing. Yes, you are rude (oy vey Jose)...and you owe practically everyone an apology - but god bless america, you ARE FUNNY and witty (contrary to my prior evaluation) and if you see me at Rainbow - do say hello and of course, DO apologize...however, if you continue to wear that anonymous paper bag over your head, I will never recognize you and then I won't know who to forgive...

I like the stars, but I am surprised more people don't vote. You don't have to sign up or sign in, just click a star. we have maybe a 1% click rate on the stars. Far out.
Comment #12 Posted by: Tyler | February 15, 2008 10:32 PM
I don't know anyone who uses stars - take a look at youtube - out of the millions of people who watch it, how many use star? To me it's like kindergarden - "I like you, I don't" - I find it actually prejudices people to think the stars actually mean something - especially when 1% out of %100 percent vote. I think they're silly!
Comment #13 Posted by: dvorah | February 15, 2008 10:41 PM
ah, we've moved on to stars already. (i think they're fun and harmless).
but i like what Heather had to say. i propose we make every single day a super-holy-day...and then declare a cease-fire on all of them. it seems to do no good to say "oh, but so-and-so didn't do it, so why should i?"...it's the same illogic that prevents nuclear (and other) disarmament.
i risk being called misinformed and worse by E.A. and others, and that's okay. it's one of those hard, dirty realities i have to face...
Comment #14 Posted by: evan austin | February 15, 2008 11:33 PM
could be the reason why the stars don't get more participation is the way it is set up to average the sum of the votes.... so, if some article has an average of four stars after seven or eight votes, it hardly matters whether i vote one star or five stars.... it has almost no effect on the average, which is all that gets displayed.
probably you would get more participation if the number of votes per star could be displayed, rather than just the average and the total number of votes....
another problem is the system is slightly biased toward more stars.... if some article gets ten five-star votes, and ten one-star votes, that's an average of three stars per vote, which looks better than the actual distribution...
Comment #15 Posted by: got stars | February 16, 2008 07:43 AM
got stars - you're right on both accounts. But there's no additional functionality I could add at this point. Still, I find the actual number of votes interesting, in addition to the rating.

El Anon -
Things you do not already know? It seems as if that could be a rather long list, so I will just settle for two:
1. Heather does not think colonics are the answer to everything.
2. Heather's comments about the Middle East didn't reference colonics at all.
3. You are kind of an asshole.
Oops. That's three, sorry. :)

Tanya-
1. I didn't say answer to everything.
I said "anything"
2. I suspect she thinks most middle easterners need colonics
3. you are not alone
What a damn beeyootifull day...
Comment #19 Posted by: El Anonimo | February 18, 2008 12:39 PM
tanya - you are right - el anonimo is an a-hole, however, I think you should give him another chance,I did!!!!!! and he gets 5 stars from me for saying "anything" instead of "everything"!

1. You're right, I stand corrected. You have a problem with the general idea of colonics, eh? I remember you asking someone if they were gay in another thread. Do you have some sort of anal fixation?
2. I decided to go to the source. She doesn't think Middle Easterners as a group need colonics, but suspects that you might. har har.
3. Don't I know it!
P.S. - Barack Obama thinks you are cute! http://barackobamaisyournewbicycle.com/

Tanya-
OK here goes.
When I was barely 16 years old I spent a week in the hospital being operated on for hemmorhoids.
Now I could go into some traumatic constipation tales but this is a family channel and sometimes I know when I fall into TMI.
The rectal surgeon who operated on me had never ever operated on anyone under 30 for the same condition.
So one "could" conclude I have an anal fixation from my very early Freudian anal period.
Again- hang in there with me, dont fade away...
it was during that same week that I got rejected from Cornell University and waitlisted for Columbia- which I ultimately did not get accepted.
I also was turned down for some crummy camp counselor job i applied for.
So in my mind my anal fixation goes hand in hand with my experience of rejection and probably explains why i am not gay

Ahhh. That does explain a lot. Thanks for sharing (I do genuinely mean that).
I am fairly certain Heather will not come after you with a speculum or go anywhere near your anal cavity, so you could probably lay off her a bit if you were so inclined. ;)
And now I shall drop the topic entirely. I hope you're able to get out and enjoy the day. I'm going to take a book out to my deck now.
Comment #23 Posted by: Tanya | February 18, 2008 01:49 PM
whaddaya say, spk.....
tomorrow's a big day in Wisconsin...... how do you call it?
I predict a dead heat.... within one or two percentage points one way or the other..... and Hillary will call that a Big Victory...
