Ojai Post Author Endorsements

I've asked the Ojai Post Authors to give me their pick for President, and a brief statement. I'll do this again after both parties nominate their candidate (and/or if any third party candidates jump in). I will also update these results as I get additional Author responses.

Obama: 8
Paul: 2
Kucinich: 2
Romney: 1
Clinton: 1
McCain: 0

And let us know how you're leaning...

Dvorah Adler: Obama - A Hopeful/Visionary Gift to the American People and the World - in the Right Place, at the Right Time! And it's about Time!!!

evan austin: I’m continuing my support for Dennis Kucinich even though he has withdrawn because his values and mine match almost perfectly, and i believe in voting for what i want and nothing less. Even when he’s not running, Dennis still represents me better than the remaining candidates.

Brian Cox: I would like to endorse Mitt Romney for president. Romney will insure that we have energy independence by allowing drilling for oil here at home off shore and in Anwar, and he would be the first Mormon president, all the Mormons I have know have been very generous people.

Jock Doubleday: Ron Paul is the only candidate, because he is the only one willing to preserve the Constitution.

Chris Foley: Obama 100%

Suza Francina: Here's why Dennis Kucinich is my first choice: "A Man with the Courage of a Lion, a Heart of Gold and Backbone of Steel"

Heather McKenzie: I'm endorsing Barack Obama. I think his Health Care plan is more likely to be enacted and I like that he's willing to meet personally with all world leaders.

Todd Miller: I am endorsing Barack Obama because I think this country needs genuine change right now far more than it needs the kind of old school experience that has diluted our principles, our liberties, our economy, our environment, our security, and our global relations.

Kenley Neufeld: Can I just say OBAMA (as you already know). He brings a chance for something new in America.

Lisa Snider: I would rather chew glass than cry or dish politics. That being said, Senator Clinton is getting my vote on Tuesday. Robert Kennedy, Jr. has endorsed her, too. Although I'm registered N/P, if anyone other than a Republican took the White House, I'd be pretty happy!

Kit Stolz: After canvassing a neighborhood in Upper Ojai, in which more than one Republican told me he was voting for Obama, and two Democrats told me they would not vote for Hillary in November if she was nominated, I think the choice for those who want to move this country forward is clear: Barack Obama. Let democracy work!

Tyler Suchman: Barack Obama - The US image around the world will be largely restored by an American people who will vote for a black president who has lived internationally, fights for healthcare, education and an end to the Iraq war, and has the oratory skills to inspire a nation to live up to their full potential. (big hat tip to Edwards and Kucinich who raised the visibility of important progressive ideals and kept them forefront in the discussion)

Robin Walter: I am supporting Obama; He, like he stated in his book, has the audacity to hope. He has the audacity to believe that we can instigate change before our world moves past the tipping point, and has the experience and motivation to elicit such a change.

Chris T. Wilson endorses Ron Paul. Smaller government, honest and transparent Federal Reserve/IRS policy, and the end of Team America World Police.

I'm with Evan! I voted for Kucinich on my Mail Ballot. For me, one of the highlights of the early debates (before he was banned) was when Kucinich came right out and said that Bush should be impeached for war crimes!

Ron Paul is the Kucinich of the Republican party. He too has shown incredible integrity in the lion's den!

Having said that, Barack Obama is my choice over Hillary Clinton. Many times I hve found myself warming up to her, but her
record on the Iraq war is a huge strike. I just read the post by Clive Leeman on how she lied about the war in the last debate.

until the many peoples, the many cultures, of 'North America' and Hawaii (and Puerto Rico ...) dissolve the GANGSTER-MACHINE ... the illegal, unethical, murderous, evil, lying 'thingy' which has violated the ENTIRE EARTH for the profit of the (largely) European bankers and aristrocracy --

until then there will be no peace or truth ... no chance for the women and children, no hope for a planet in serfdom at the whim of the medico-corporate-
chemo-knife, no chance for the return of life, the living, the sacred --

the knowing ...

~~

no happiness, no success, no beauty and wonder ...

no song, no true love ...

until the real honest people step forward and legally, overwhelmingly -- in all media and fora -- create voluntaryist local/regional/continental direct democracy.

until it is DIRECT and VOLUNTARY democracy it is NO DEMOCRACY!

Millennium Twain

"European bankers and aristrocracy "??
Millenium- are you gay?

Hey El Anonima, are you a Rethuglican?

No I'm independent.
I'm just allergic to bullshit of all denominations

#5 Then you must have a hard time living yourself!!!

Sort of off the subject but, I have learned a bit more about the gravel truck situation from a trucker friend of mine. It seems that this whole situation has been created by the Ventura County government in that all the other locations where mining goes on ie the ventura river bottom in Santa Paula or Saticoy area, have been prohibited from mining anymore, ergo there is no place to get any rock and that is why this is going on.

ok back to the election

Ojai is for Obama!

Or at least, the vocal, participating minority, who are generally responsible for everything good that happens in this town, is for Obama.

Look around: Obama signs are everywhere. People are manning Obama tables all over town. Not a Hillary sign or table in sight.

In Ojai, we are suckers for hope.

As a former leaning-toward-Hillary-for-practical-reasons, let me declare myself officially in favor of Obama.

Fact is, there is no good way to square her war vote with what we need. She blew it, and she ought to step aside, IF we have an alternative who can win and lead. Despite lingering doubts and a skepticism of blind faith, I'm ready to say Obama appears to be that alternative.

Some more endorsements for Obama:

* Maria Shriver
* Deadheads for Obama featuring Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Phil Lesh & Friends
* La Opinión - The major Spanish language newspaper in Los Angeles

I don't understand why anyone would endorse a candidate (in this case Dennis Kucinich) who has formally withdrawn. Isn't that how we ended up with George W?

Anonymous #10, I understand your concern! At this stage, I am not recommending that people vote for a candidate who has dropped out. When asked, I tell people to vote for Obama.

Anonymous 5:34 (Comment #10):

for me, endorsing Dennis Kucinich comes down to having found everything i want in my President present in him and refusing to vote for anything less. it's a commentary that even when he's not running he still reflects and honors my values more than any of the remaining candidates.

sure it's a "throw-away vote" or a "vote of conscience", but it's also a beautiful-in-its-simplicity, straight-ahead vote for exactly what i want, without playing games. right now in my [political] life, that's what's important to me.

Everyone has to follow their own conscience. When it came right down to it, as I thought about my deepest values, Kucinich was the only candidate I could honestly vote for. At the same time, now that Kucinich has dropped out, I feel good about endorsing Obama, who is my second choice.

ev'
f.y.i. dennis prefers "small-case". right now in his [political] life, that's what's important to hym.

Ron Paul is the Kucinich of the Republican party. He too has shown incredible integrity in the lion's den!

The American Nazi Party and the KKK think he's pretty cool, too:

To Anonymous Comment #15: I tried to check the link above but got a message that "The page you are trying to view was linked with e-mail determined to be spam."

The current (February) issue of LAYoga (a free magazine available at Rainbow Bridge and other locations) has an interview with Ron Paul by Steven Vincent, a well-known peace activist.

Here's a link to the interviews with Ron Paul on Bill Moyer's Journal:

http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/01042008/profile.html

I had no problem with the above link, and it does indeed take me to an article written by David Duke, one of America's leading proponents of white power. From Wikipedia: "David Ernest Duke (born July 1, 1950) is a former Republican member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, a candidate in presidential primaries for both the Democratic and Republican parties, and former Grand Wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan."

The following link will take you to every article at Stormfront.org in which Ron Paul is mentioned. The link that didn't work for you is one of the links on the list; about the 3rd one down from the top in my browser window:

http://tinyurl.com/2g3ug8

If your browser won't let you visit Stormfront.org, try a different browser or try using a proxy.

Why is Ron Paul so popular with the White Aryan Resistance, the KKK, and so many other groups of that ilk? Ron Paul can't help it if a few crazies like him, but this seems to be a bit more than that. In my opinion, supporting Ron Paul for being anti-war is analogous to writing a puff piece about Adolf Hitler because he was a vegetarian -- you have to ignore an awful lot of other stuff.

(BTW, did you know that the League of Conservation voters gives Paul a rating of 5%? This means that 95% of the time, he voted/votes contrarily to the pro-environmental position.)

If I'm going to vote for someone or recommend that person, I would like to know who else likes him, and that's how I wound up finding out about the white power connection -- I was Googling Ron Paul at the beginning of his candidacy, and found that a disturbing number of the articles took me to more than a couple of places I normally wouldn't care to go. I think that the info is worth considering, whatever you finally decide with regard to Ron Paul.

Fair enough. Will check it out after work. I did try that first link you posted several times but could not access it.

PS So far all I'm getting trying to access the links found by going to the link posted on #19 is this same message:

"AOL Safety Alert: Known Spam Solicitation Site
The page you are trying to view was linked with e-mail determined to be spam.

If AOL is protecting you from the happy little Nazis at Stormfront.org, I guess you should feel good about that. (Maybe....depending on whether or not you like having your online experience censored for you by your Internet Service Provider.)

However, if you're still interested in checking out that link, minimize AOL and fire up Internet Explorer or Firefox or whatever, and come back to ojaipost.com. Try clicking the forbidden link(s) in either one of those browsers.

If you've never used another browser than AOL's, or you don't have a broadband connection this might not be as easy as I'm trying to make it sound. If you are savvy about non-AOL browsing, though, try it the way I just suggested.

If your only connection to the internet is a dial-up AOL account, you're not going to be able to do this. Sorry. Forget about the whole thing unless you want to try it at the house of a friend who has, for example, a broadband connection or a non-AOL dial-up connection.

El Anonimo,

Could you please, please, avoid the slurs? Calling people gay went out in the early 90s, shortly after I got out of middle school as I recall. You don't use the "N" word, you don't call people chinks or wetbacks, you don't call people gay. It's rude, its disrespectful in all kinds of ways, and it makes you look like an A**.

Thank you Tanya. I was not aware of any of this. I'm surprised none of this was mentioned on the Bill Moyer interviews (to the best of my recollection.)

I have sent these comments and links to the writer who wrote the article about Ron Paul in the current LA Yoga magazine.

I do not know if the info in these links is true, but, Anonymous, you are so right, I should have investigated this candidate further before referring to him as I did.

For those Obama supporters, I thought this was a pretty cool video...check it out.
