Celibacy VS. Desire
In the spiritual community there has always been this dilemna about celibacy. Tantric practices seem to be an alternative - Get as "high" as you can but don't "boil over" and you've got a chance of a glimpse at nirvana! Dvorahji says:"Let it all go and be in Nirvana 24/7".

Dvorah, why provide what wisdom you carry through these rediculous skits. Your exentricity has gotten the best of you. Even though everything is meaningless and we all need to shut up, people have meaningful moments and speak to express themselves weather happy or sad. You speak to those in need of guidence as if they were wild animals and you were the Lion Queen. Go deeper Dvorah. Talk to those who know that there thoughts come and go, and know who they are, play with us too!! In the next video I want to see Dvorah M.D.
Comment #4 Posted by: New David | February 19, 2008 10:12 AM
Darling New David - of course people have meaningful moments! It's not "meaningless" it's "beautifully, adorable, sacredly meaningless" Meaningless is "Big, vast, awesome".
Shut up, means "fall Silent" drop your thoughts that make you unhappy! And I agree with you - my skits are ridiculous, but sometimes, it takes something completely silly...The wisdom I carry is "empty" how can you talk about empty without being ridiculous??? Everyone gives their own "wisdom" differently. You sound like a truly thoughtful "wise" young man. Show the world what you have to offer - give them yourself...I will be your greatest Fan...sign me up for your cheering team - love Dvorah
Comment #5 Posted by: dvorah | February 19, 2008 12:54 PM
David, I was thinking about you. E-mail me privately if you'd like. You said you wanted me to talk to you as someone who knows "thoughts come and go" and "understands who they are". Good. So let me be completely frank and open with you.
It's impossible to talk about "emptiness, wisdom etc" in any serious way, because then it turns into just another intellectual discussion about nothing, and I mean nothing. I know you've probably heard Krishna Murti, Gangaji, Katie, or some other "wise" person talk about "deep wisdom, the Self, Enlightenment etc" and now you have a concept of what that looks like when someone offers "truth or freedom".
I also sometimes yap about the same thing - but I know nothing about IT and neither do THEY. You can only BE IT. I don't know why the whole thing is such a mystery, because we are talking about "Our Very Nature" something we already are. It really is like the seeker fish swimming thousands of miles to the Indian Ocean to find the enlightened fish and asking him, "Holy One. Show me the water?"
If you are serious about finding out "Who you are NOT", and still want to play with Me. Then listen when I say "Shut Up and Be Happy!" Listen when I say, "Life is Awesomely Meaningless". No more "buts or ands!!! NO more "what do you mean by that Dvorah? Be Still.
Don't try and make anything different! Stand in Space, free falling. Say Shut UP to every "BUT and MAYBE" that arises until nothing is left! And then come and Play with Me.
Until then, Silly eccentric ridiculously funny Dvorahji will have to do. If you "seriously" want to play with Me - put a rubber chicken hat on your head and let's play hop-scotch.
Much Love to you dear Boy, Dvorah

Dear Dvorah,
It is bad enough seeing you pose as a dispenser of wisdom, but don't you even know that the man's name is Krishnamurti, not Krishna Murti??
I know you imagine yourself to be a source of wisdom dressed up as foolishness, but you are really just foolishness parading as foolish wisdom.

I'm a local artist and love the spiritual vibe here in Ojai. I went to a Krishnamurti meeting when I first came to Ojai, I understood his concepts, but what a lifeless group. No light, no joy, no art, no beauty. It felt like he sucked the life out of them. A group of intellectual, egotistical, joyless, loveless zombies. Really sad. Talking about having the child stomped out of you!
I'll take Dvorah anyday!
Comment #9 Posted by: Anonymous | February 20, 2008 11:59 AM
Greetings Anonymous Artist,
What is interesting is that many of Ojai's great artists and writers were also students of Krishnamurti's teachings, including people like Beatrice Wood. I can assure you her inner child was very much alive at age 105!
I grew up in Ojai (have lived here since 1957) and was fortunate to be close friends with many of the people who had a longtime association with Krishnamurti. His teachings have had a profound influence on every aspect of my life.
I'm curious to know what kind of Krishnamurti meeting you attended. I gather from your description that he was still alive.
Thank you for commenting here. I do enjoy reading what everyone thinks!
Namaste,
Suzaji

My experience coincides with AA #9.
KM was a genius in the head.
He provides a road map for the brainmind.
Unfortunately his freeway is congested as the traffic moves lower down. Although I have heard he (or was it his brother) had an affair(s) with some lovelies.
I'm sorry the gossip is just so juicy among all these "enlightened masters" fondling children, drinking urine, sex and drug orgies. Man I live a very tame unenlightened life.
My ex-fraudulent guru (yes, its the RollsRoyceian Osho, although i knew him as THE bhagwan) used to trash most other "spiritual" teachers, but he had a fondness for KM.
He used to say KM was a fine solo flute player while he (the bhagwan) was the conductor of the orchestra.
Both equally skillful, just one capable of making a bigger noise.
Comment #11 Posted by: El Anonimo | February 20, 2008 01:25 PM
I'd rather eat gravel then listen to another Krishnamurti tape! I work at a public access channel and if I see him roll his eyes one more time, I'm going to quit! I say stay clear of him unless you're having trouble sleeping!

number #5, Each of us has a source of wisdom. I think Devorah is just offering her path to being happy. I personally don't believe in masters or gurus but I do believe that everyone has something unique to offer and if it rings a bell in you great! If it doesn't then you should go to something or someone else.
Devorah's videos look like child's play to me, like a children's show for adults. I have only seen a few of them, but I find them full of joy, innocent and playful. I've never seen Krishnamurti but I have seen Gangaji and Katie too. And I've had some exceptional experiences with both of them.
Comment #13 Posted by: Maggie | February 20, 2008 07:49 PM
El Anon,
Insofar as your comments are intended to apply to Krishnamurti, they are ugly, vulgar, disrespectful, and very unworthy of you. He had nothing whatsoever to do with drinking urine, fondling children, or any of the other ugly things you mention, and no one has ever suggested otherwise. He was not celebate, but he never advocated celebacy. He considered sex a normal human function and saw no reason to deny or suppress it.
You have related how Rajneesh regarded Krishnamurti. I wonder if you can imagine how Krishnamurti regarded Rajneesh?
Comment #14 Posted by: david | February 20, 2008 08:29 PM
David-
1000 apologies.
I did not mean to ascribe any of those vulgarities to KM.
They are in the rumor mill (and some even proven) in regard to other "enlightened" teachers.
I actually have a great respect for KM.
I heard him speak in Bombay in 1978 addressing 1000s of seekers.
It was the same weekend I sat at the feet of the "Bidi Baba" (Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj) as well as my usual mornings with Rajneesh.
At the end of that weekend I had quite a headache.
Again- I am sorry if I misrepresented the great wisdom of KM.

#13 Dearest Maggie - My experience with Masters (Gurus) is you might see many, but one will capture you and you will be smitten beyond repair. What if I told you that God is a word, written in a book, painted on a canvas, hanging on a wall, in the mind of a scriptwriter and The GURU is the scriptwriter. He is all there Is. And he is the only one that can give you peace. Why? Because he is your very Nature. It’s that simple.
Now, if you’re lucky enough to find a
Guru in the flesh, standing in front of you, calling
your name, you better lay your burden down,
because this is your chance to be free.
Never mind about all the questions,
doubts, and nonsense you’ve heard. Drop your
misery and step into the embrace of that sweet
Love.
You don’t ever have to worry about finding the right Guru. He will find you, and that's a promise - straight from "your" GURU.
Comment #18 Posted by: dvorah | February 21, 2008 09:22 AM
GURU-vee...!!!
Comment #19 Posted by: El Anonimo | February 21, 2008 09:24 AM
Is being smitten by a 'guru' like being smitten by Jesus Christ and becoming "a born-again Christian?"
My dear Christian friends and family members too have dropped their burden, no longer question, and are "high on the Lord."
What is the difference?
Comment #20 Posted by: Suza | February 21, 2008 09:40 AM
Suza, lovely question: As I see it, "Born again Christians" are only high on "their Lord" and everyone else is going to Hell! and their mission in life is to convert you, get you to be like them with all their rules and tenets. they love their lord and they love themselves and feel sorry for everyone else who is going to "Hell". I, personally have rarely had a true friendship with a born again. Because I always feel that our friendship is based on them converting me. It's always un-natural and full of motive.
From my experience, to be smitten in deep love "beyond repair" is to fall in love with everyone, knowing we are all one spirit (for lack of another description). You may still question everything and even disagree and argue like crazy with your Guru - but in That love you are lost, in awe, overjoyed and safe.
And you fall in love with everyone & everything. You're wish is that everyone be happy and free in peace - you don't want to convert anyone - you only want to offer yourself in service and have fun with all your friends. You don't approach someone with "Let me save you from Hell!" you say hello to everyone as a dear friend, and you become smitten with them too.
(An excerpt from My Guru)
The Master doesn’t do anything. There is no
difference between you and the Master, because a
Master is just like a window. He just reflects you. He doesn’t advise you, or bind you: “You should do this. You don’t do this...” He is there, just like the window.
He helps you, brings you up. He doesn’t do
anything, no effort...The fragrance in the flower. It doesn’t make an effort to send its fragrance. It just gets carried away...He invokes. He kindles something that is deep in you. By its very presence that something that celebration, gets kindled. That love in the heart gets kindled. A possibility of a higher love becomes very clear in our life. That’s what a Master does.
--Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Thank you Dvorah.
For now, I am pondering your reply.
Comment #22 Posted by: Suza | February 21, 2008 11:44 AM
OK. For what it's worth, here's how it looks to me.
I have seen the ads and read articles about your Guru for years in the yoga magazines I write for. So this is of interest to me.
Coming from a family of born-agains, ministers and preachers, on the whole, the more they "believe" the happier they are. Plus, my missionary relatives, like your Guru, do good work helping those less fortunate.
Christian "Gurus" like successful Indian Gurus, have hordes of followers. You have never seen such a happy bunch!
You have told us the differences between those who are smitten by gurus and the born-agains.
Now let's consider the possible similarities.
Is there an element of delusion?
self-absorption?
impervious to reason (difficult to reason with)?
no longer capable of thinking for yourself? or even wanting to!
wish the rest of us would see the light and hang out with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar?
I did look up your Guru's web site and saw that he has some good qualities.
In fact, so far, I found no scandals. But I did find this:
Is Sri Sri Ravi Shankar a Con Man?
http://www.deeshaa.org/is-sri-sri-ravi-shankar-a-con-man/
From what I have learned so far, I agree with the conclusion of the above author:
"I believe that Ravi Shankar falls in the “Useful” category."
"Postscript: I occasionally receive emails from the devotees of SSRS (I use that word advisedly since now SSRS has been elevated to the position of a minor deity by some of his followers.) These emails basically advise me to enroll in an Art of Living course because then I too would see the light and convert from my evidently uninformed view which makes me consider SSRS to be merely useful instead of being an enlightened being. I guess my enlightenment will be postponed due to my reluctance to enroll. So be it."
Comment #23 Posted by: Suza | February 21, 2008 01:21 PM
Dvorah advocates on one hand (as advised by her guru) falling in love with everyone, then almost in the same breath on the other hand bashes Christians and is unwilling to befriend them.
Comment #24 Posted by: Curious | February 21, 2008 01:40 PM
Dear Curious - just because you fall in love with everyone, doesn't mean you want them over for dinner. Love is from the heart, from your vast spacious spirit - it's bigger then likes and dislikes. I do in fact love my Christian friends, I don't however like them calling me Sunday morning at 8:00 am, to tell me Mininister X is on tv, and I should watch him because it's good for me and time is getting short before I end up in hell.
I love the guys that come knocking at my door, in the middle of a beautful peaceful brunch with my daughter too. They want to tell me "Jesus Saves", so they can get another notch in heaven for knocking at my door. I love them , I just don't want to have a long conversation with them cause it's all one-sided. I love Jesus too and I pray to him regularly to save me from HIS fanatic folloiwers.
Love is love is love, but people are people are people, everyone has a different belief and personality. You can love a person deeply by feeling your connection to their soul (for a better word here). You know that their essence is your essence and in your HEART you love them and wish them well because essentially they are your "Very Self". As Wavey Gravey put it, (and I paraphrase), "...People are just shanking hands with themselves".
However, you can get mad at them from "your throat". For example: there's that phone call at 8:00 am: "Dvorah, turn on channel 5 quickly, hurry up! That new minister's on TV!" And I say loudly, " Don't Fricken call me again this early in the morning, cause I'm not goin to hell today!" and I hang up.
Does that mean I don't love them deeply and wish the best for them? No. It means, "Let's not hang out today or ever, if all you want to do is convert me. Have a heart, I sleeping!"
True Love is not an emotion, or a thought, It's your very Nature. My personality and how I display it, is another story - I can love you or hate you, say sweet nothings or curse you, I'm a scorpio with a pisces moon and Scorpio rising, with an 11 birth path in numerology and SO WHAT? It's not my Nature! It just means I move through the world and react in a certain way.
Christian or Jew, Buddhist or Monkey - You are all my Very Nature and I love you as I love Myself! But Please do not call me at 8 in the morning, cause you are going to piss me off!

Did you see Comment #22 and #23?
Comment #26 Posted by: Calling Dvorahji | February 21, 2008 03:37 PM
(Sorry folks, I was out)
Suza, don't take offense - follow your heart. I'm not interested in getting you to follow Sri Sri or anyone else. Everyone finds their own Love to guide them.
There is delusion, self-absorption and BS everywhere. Those who want to sign you up for an art of living course are doing their bit to help and unfortunately, they can also be fanatic. But that doesn't mean I like it or condone any of it. However, remember that AOL sends you "One-occasional" e-mail or they have an open invitation in the media. You can flip the page or delete. They are not at your door Sunday morning again and again.
Suza, It's up to you to decipher what's true for you. From my perspective, Enlightenment's a joke! I don't want you to be anything different than who you are and I certainly don't want you to enroll in anything. I trust fully that YOUR path, whatever that is, will get you exactly where you need to be.
I'm the one that wants to enroll in your class, sign me up!!

Dear David:
I was just reading some of your comments and realize you deserve more then a flippant answer from me.
I hadn’t written a book in 15 years and wasn’t planning on writing another one, when I woke up one morning, wired and wrote 3 chapters of a title repeating itself in my head called, “Shut Up! An Ancient Mantra for Complete Happiness, The Simple Truth Your Guru, Therapist and Grandmother Forgot To Tell You.
My Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar happened to be in town that weekend, so I brought it to satsang and asked him, “Would you like to hear this?” He said, “Yes, Dvorah read it.” When I was finished he said, “Vasistha in modern times – go home and finish it”.
I didn’t think much about it, except “that was fun!” So I went home and finished the manuscript in 4 days (blissed out).
When I brought the book to him in Canada he said, “Go home, there’s more, and when you’re done, Art of Living will publish it.” I was surprised and thought that was the end of it. People would buy the book and I would go back to watching TV, walking the dog and playing with the internet.
Honestly, I don’t know how I got started doing “Dvorahji”, but here I am with a Mickey Mouse hat on my head. Foolish, for sure. Foolish wisdom, for sure. I don’t know why I couldn’t just pretend to be a respected author, who just travels around talking
about her latest book, but NO! I had to put on a Peter Pan hat and be a Yente pretending to be a Guru! How ridiculous does that sound? Do you think I’d be running around acting like fool if I had a choice? I’d much rather write another book, and be respected, as a speaker at Head Start Conventions, or be a columnist for the Chicago Tribune, like I’ve been in the past. Unfortunately, it's too late for that, the caterpillar has turned into a butterfly.
Whether you agree with it or not, this format serves those who are attracted to it – and are relieved by it. One man’s foolish misleading nonsense is another man’s blessing and lightens his heart. I only offer what I am – and as the God’s would have it, the jokes on me.
Much Love Dvorah

Comment #23 - Suza - once you walk into the public eye, especially as a leader, there will always be bad and good opinions about you - especially by people who don't know the first things about you and have never had any contact with you. You'll even get a couple of stalkers (even I've had my share and I'm barely even public).
If someone is really interested in finding out about Sri Sri Ravi Shankar - then go to http://us.artofliving.org/index.html look under Service (and everything else) and take a look at the work that has been done in his name. Verify it - check out what you read (not just an opinion here and there) and then come to your own conclusions.

not to generalize or anything but I sense all of us who live in "Awha'y" (tip o' the hat to Millenium) have a huge spiritual blanket over us knitted by the Theosophists (Annie and Madame B) and of course KM and of course people of the Chumash Nation.
Interesting factoid:
"Chumash" also refers to "(IPA: [xuˈmɑʃ]) (Hebrew: חומש; also Humash) is one of the Hebrew names for the Five Books of Moses, also known as the Pentateuch or Torah. The word comes from the Hebrew word for five, chamesh. A more formal term is "Chamishah Chumshei Torah."

Dear Dvorah,
Thank you for your reply. If I understand you correctly, you are confirming what I surmised -- that you consider yourself a source of wisdom dressed up as foolishness.
In other words, in your videos and comments and so on, you are not just making fun of yourself, or playing for laughs.
You actually believe that, underneath your Mickey Mouse hat, you have something important to say, something wise and insightful and true.
Right?
Comment #42 Posted by: david | February 22, 2008 10:13 AM
