Shooting on Fox Street
There was a shooting on Fox Street, just south of Ojai Ave.
A reader who lives very close to the shooting gave me the following details. Note that this is one eyewitness' recollection, and not intended to be an official account of the incident.
After a brief bit of yelling, there were three rapid fire gun shots heard, possibly from a 9mm, and the shots were directed south on Fox St. One victim was hit in the leg, and he is being transported; there apparently is a second victim who is being searched for.
The shots were reportedly fired from a late model bright orange Dodge Charger with three people. After the shooting, the Dodge drove down and parked on the side street to the south of the car wash. When a police car drove up to the wrong (but frequently visited) location, the Dodge drove away rapidly and turned right, traveling east down Ojai Ave. The police car did not follow immediately, and the suspects have not been found as of yet. Ojai Ave. and Fox St. are now closed after the shooting.

After looking at the official Dodge website, I think it was the Dodge Avenger in orange. At any rate, the color was definitely the stock orange color available on the website I posted. Dodge may have made the challenger in orange in the last few years, but the shooters car was very new looking, not just well preserved.

So...all is still now. Just a little gang warfare in our streets. Just like what happened on Drown St. a few months back. The cops managed to fail to capture the shooter, even though we pointed them out as they sped away. Sounds familiar, on Drown the shooter was actually allowed to flee the country. Probably because he was a county snitch. I seriously doubt the shooters on Fox will be identified either.
I'm not sure what's going on here, but when you have to dive toward your two year old early on a Saturday night in order to block him from gunfire in the streets, it can't possibly be a good thing.

Maybe some enterprising young investigative reporter around town will hustle over to the hospital and scoop an interview with the guy who got shot and get the real low-down on this story.

Lame! Some punks come up from smell A to make a name for themselves her in"sleepy little Ojai"(just like some of the bloggers on this site only alot more violently)and people immediately want to point fingers at the police. If found these jerks should be taken for a long ride beaten within an inch of their useless should be aborted lives and made an example of for any other would be thugs that want to act like badasses in our hapless burg. But I dare say the bleeding heart left thats under the illusion that they are the majority here woulld cry about that also.My two hopes for this is that the community will become less tolerant of the thug behavior that breeds this sort of climate and turn the other cheek when the police shake down these lowlifes, and that it drives the faint hearted crybabies out of Ojai for good.I suggest,Sedona or Eugene or maybe New Zealand.Which I thought was where half of the poltical blowhards were supposed to move after W won the last presidential election anyhow.

Ironically, New Zealand is known as a international leader in restorative justice; maybe something we can try here more often to help reduce the overwhelming violence in our society.
Check out the Ministry of Justice web site.
This is just a little side note and not intended to minimize the circumstances here in Ojai.

When there was gang activity last year and
the neighborhood response groups formed,
it was relayed that was the sheriff staffing for
the valley- seperate from the Ojai PD. Now,
still the same problems with no proactive in place.
As for community policing, all on force most likely live outside Ojai city limits or valley because of cost of housing, so don't expect much perspective into local dynamics. PL

this shooting was committed by a gang that resides here in Ojai. they call themselves Old School Latinos, or OSL as their numerous tags around town show. these guys didn't come from LA, they live here.
when you think about the Ojai Police, you think ineptitude. they can't be bothered to give speeding tickets to the a-holes who drive double the speed limits on all of Ojai's streets, let alone apprehend a shooting suspect.

and btw, how does the "eyewitness" know that the shots were fired from a 9mm???

Wasn't a 9mm. Was a 25 simiauto which sounds very similar to a 9mm. Guns make different sounds.
