Shooting at the Fox St. Car Wash

At a little after 6:45 p.m. this Saturday evening, I stepped outside an office on Bryant Circle.
I heard a "pop, pop, pop" in rapid succession, less than a second.
A few minutes later, I called my girlfriend at Bald-n-Pearl and asked her if she had heard gunshots. She said she had not.
Walking back up to Ojai Ave. I saw cops all up and down Ojai Ave. from Drown, between Valero and Pats to N. Montgomery with the street blocked off.

At S. Fulton where I was turning to go home, I spoke briefly with an officer directing traffic.
He confirmed what the pop, pop, pop, was what I heard. And I walked home.
Few minutes later I walked back up to Sea Fresh and asked a woman who works there and was standing in the parking lot, " Do you know what happened?"
Sbe said, "There was a shooting at the car wash?"
I said, "Was anyone killed?"
She said, "No, shot in the leg."
I walked back home and posted this.

damn people lets get it together................... at least for our kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Chris, Its Vera from down the street.... post this up if youd like, i thought this was a free post type of blog thing....
Take care Vera

About two hours after I heard the shots I walked back up Bald Street. Talked with three gals, including Vera (hey neighbor) who told me the name of who was shot (local minor) and about an alleged rape at the Deer Lodge.

Further investigation at a nearby business revealed that it was a random shooting guys from LA. Though I was (un)officially collecting data for a new post, I promised not to name names.

Despite the excitement, I'll wager we're still living in a sleepy little town.

No one died, to my knowledge. VC Sgt.... (can't remember his name) confirmed: shooting -- no one killed.

Isn't that the 2nd crime we've heard of involving the Deer Lodge in the past 2 weeks (with the first being the alcohol-related motorcycle fatality on Rice Road just before Christmas)

I suggest that a road house that glamorizes drinking & driving is a public nuisance.

Local police efforts are retroactive, and Bruce Norris admits to being overwhelmed and needing community solutions. A multi-million dollar sherrif's budget, yet only two patrol cars on duty in valley all night? I see tags on affluent buildings- stating youth feels disenfranchised, and observe sherrif patrol cars hurrying past but never stopping to interact with community and understand issues on the streets. It seems that continuing denial of problems, appeasing public safety
image of community is counter-productive and retroative. Statistics indicate growing problem
and putting it off doesn't deny this. Solutions? Community based, looking at socio-economic causes. Soline from Ojai Organic Hemp clothing has Latino and post-gang perspective. Too bad the network from Topa Topa school has stopped. PL

You can't possibly be saying Ojai needs more police!?

my sister lives nextdoor to that car wash...i'm just appalled , scared and shocked that it was so close to home for her. i just thank the gods that her, her husband and my sweet nephew were not hurt by a stray bullet. too scary...too close to home...and too much! where is the glamour in that lifestyle?!

love you sis!! love you ojai!!!
