Highway 33 still closed - update

From the Forest Service...

Cal Trans informed the Forest Service yesterday that Highway 33 will stay closed just past Wheeler Gorge and will probably not reopen until Monday, 2/4/08. They had other priorities and just received emergency funding to work on the road. They now have 2 bulldozers and 6 dump trucks available.

I want to praise Cal-Trans for keeping the 33 Hwy closed because of all of the snow. Many people would be inclined to go up to Pine mountain and play in the snow and they might get stuck. So far no one has gotten stuck. Just by simply closing the road we have eliminated a potential problem. Also many gallons of gas have been saved and less greenhouse gases have been emitted because of the road closure.
