The Spirit of the Age

by Suza Francina on November 26, 2007

I always wondered what the word “Zeitgeist” meant. Since Dutch is my mother tongue, I was especially interested to learn that Zeitgeist is originally a German expression that means “the spirit of the age,” literally translated as “time (Zeit) spirit (Geist).” It describes the intellectual and cultural climate of an era. In German, the word has more layers of meaning than the English translation, including the fact that Zeitgeist can only be observed for past events.
On the recommendation of friends, I’ve begun watching the movie, Zeitgeist, released in late June, 2007 http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/
You can see the movie for free. I don’t know what to believe anymore, so I’m curious to know what others think.

According to their website, http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/statement.htm
Zeitgeist, produced by Peter Joseph, was created as a nonprofit filmiac expression to inspire people to start looking at the world from a more critical perspective and to understand that very often things are not what the population at large thinks they are. The information in Zeitgeist was established over a year long period of research and the current Source page on this site lists the basic sources used / referenced and the Interactive Transcript http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/transcript.htm includes
exact source references and further information.

I saw it and liked it. Any film that opens with George Carlin and ends with Bill Hicks is bound to appeal to me. I especially liked Part I about religion. I had learned about a lot of Christianity’s’ parallels with other myths in my comparative religions and mythology courses in college, but this is so concise. Kind of hits you.
The second part about the world trade center, well I’d already heard most of that info before. Something is definitely wrong with the whole official scenario, though I’m leery of going all the way to the explosives in the buildings solution. It might have been as simple as looking the other way and letting it happen because they knew it was coming. Although, it certainly was a lucky coincidence that on the same morning as the attack, NORAD was engaged in a training exercise involving multiple hijackings using false radar contacts, etc. That’s a little shady, though I already knew about that too. I’d never seen that photo of the steel beam that had obviously been “cut” in a 45 degree angle using something very hot, the film claimed thermate. And building 7 really shouldn’t have just fallen down. To me, that’s the strongest evidence that there might have been explosives used in the WT complex, though not necessarily on the towers. Combined with the reports on the ground that everyone was rushed away with warnings that “they’re going to pull it,” and the two different TV news reporters that did stand-up reporting that 7 had fallen 20-25 minutes before building 7 actually fell(info not in the film), and the whole building 7 thing casts some strange shadows.
Part III about the Federal Reserve and the international bankers was more info I already knew. Much of that information is also true, but it seems thin to weave a whole “take over of the planet” plot with. More like simple greed and poor stewardship by the citizens of this Republic. I’d have gone back farther than the Woodrow Wilson signing the Federal Reserve Act into existence over Christmas in 1913. The film made a lot of that, but in reality we’d already had two central banks prior to his signing The Fed into law. The real trouble started after the civil war when the corporate lawyers began the takeover with the Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad non-decision that corporations were the same as natural persons. That’s where the intentions of the framers was first seriously subverted.

From the year 1933:
Smedley Butler on Interventionism
– Excerpt from a speech delivered in 1933, by Major General Smedley Butler, USMC.

War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses.
I believe in adequate defense at the coastline and nothing else. If a nation comes over here to fight, then we’ll fight. The trouble with America is that when the dollar only earns 6 percent over here, then it gets restless and goes overseas to get 100 percent. Then the flag follows the dollar and the soldiers follow the flag.
I wouldn’t go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.
There isn’t a trick in the racketeering bag that the military gang is blind to. It has its “finger men” to point out enemies, its “muscle men” to destroy enemies, its “brain men” to plan war preparations, and a “Big Boss” Super-Nationalistic-Capitalism.
It may seem odd for me, a military man to adopt such a comparison. Truthfulness compels me to. I spent thirty- three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country’s most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle- man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.
I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service.
I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912 (where have I heard that name before?). I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested.
During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.

I’ve been wondering the same thing most of my life. (Still haven’t figured it out, either.)
Here’s a representative collection of my unsolicited and frequently Tourette-like contributions to the threads at the Ojai Post.

I saw Zeitgeist a few months ago and thought it was right on the money. spk, I enjoyed your comments but I think you’re giving the power elites too soft a pass. Until we face the heart of darkness we’re just going to continue spinning our wheels. It’s frustrating for me that the core issues are not addressed and besides its boring after awhile. I have been heavy into religion and I thought the first part, like you said, really cut to the chase. Now if we could only get it through our thick skulls that the problem killing us is religion + patriarchy = evil (or in personal terms, the (d)evil). In other words: SEX. It would take a hundred thousand words to even start unraveling one strand of that knot, and with Suza looking in, I’m not going to try. By the way, Apolonia is dutch and I lived in Holland for a year, so I appreciated the comment about Zeitgeist + dutch + mother tongue. The spirit of this age is dumbed down stupidity + a handful of evil geniuses. I’ve got the first term down pat and am now working on the second. Keep your zeitgeists up.

truly “the core issues are not addressed”.
yes, time to “really [truly] cut to the chase” …
else better for us to not log on, or speak, until we are ready to “walk in the sacred”.
in this (HER) wholesome spirit, I just wrote this letter to Benjamin Fulford, re: the Evil Spirit vs the Good Spirit of these times …
~~~
Benjamin-San,
this was posted an hour ago to Seven-Seven, and subsequently forwarded to forty discussion groups at Yahoo.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Seven-Seven/message/3153
and I got to view the first six minutes of your video today, interview with David Rockefeller …
appreciate that it seems you are trying to reach a worldwide audience … and hope you will every day be teaching them the FIVE FUNDAMENTALS OF CONTEMPORARY ETHICS:
1) Returning Ocean and Rainforests, the vast wild herds, flocks, and pods of large mammals et al.
2) Global protection for women and children, from ALL cultural, corporate, church, medico, industrial, patriarchal violence!
3) Universal empowerment and protection for ALL wild, indigenous, native, aboriginal peoples AND the nonviolent aspects of their cultures, and their life in harmony with nature.
4) Global preservation of all CULTURES, respect for all peoples. Institution of global dialog, free-media, decisionmaking, interaction, collective reforestation, re-oceaning, working together, celebrating.
5) Universal suffrage, freedom from economic and ALL SERFDOMs … universal DIRECT decision- making … a world ANTI-GOVERNMENT! (NOT WORLD GOVERNMENT!) No more aristocracy of perverse power. We ALL become the aristocracy, where we ALL are restrained from violence and abuse & theft and fraud. A global, all-inclusive [not electoral] parliament, whose decisions ONLY apply to those who agree with them, guaranteed universal voluntaryism … and a Global Council of Earth Elders (principally Natives and Women) to create and evolve a global constitution of a hundred ethical guidelines. [Planetary 'Songlines' ...]
Repeat 1) Mother Earth, 2) Women & Children, 3) World Culture, 4) Native Peoples, 5) Global End to Gov/Corporate/Church Slavery!
This is the prayer, awakening mantra, of now global divine spirituality.
Hear the song of collective unamity, the Adi-Shakti, Maitreyah, Maadi, Maschiak, Grid, Field, Global Consciousness, Messiah, Blue Star returned.
All our sacred relations,
Millennium Twain
Repeat 1) Mother Earth, 2) Women & Children,
3) World Culture, 4) Native Peoples, 5) Global
End to Gov/Corporate/Church Slavery!
