Ballot Petition Fraud in Santa Barbara?
Word is circulating regarding potential ballot petition fraud up in Santa Barbara, where petition gatherers are attempting to secure up to four signatures across stacked, multiple petitions without explaining what each signature is for. One of the initiatives is the Electoral College Initiative, which is trying to split up California's electoral college votes.
I have received a couple private emails regarding this, while it is starting to trickle into the blogs... this could be a big story, so I'll keep my eye on it. Feel free to submit any other instances, observances, etc. in the comments. 2008 is shaping up to be a really dirty election on a nationwide basis. This is the tip of the iceberg.

I was verbally harassed by a very aggressive huckster type who was soliciting signatures on Main Street in Ventura a week or so ago. I simply asked her to explain the measure that she wanted me to sign and she became verbally abusive. I am especially suspicious of these people with piles of ballot initiatives since the Gray Davis recall that worked so well for Arnold. They often will give a very distorted pitch for each cause and know that they will get many signatures from people who are not really informed or paying attention.
Thanks for bringing this to everyones attention Tyler!

Thanks for putting this on the Ojai Post, Tyler. It would be interesting to know who's behind this. Once upon a time I would have said Lyndon LaRouche -- his disciples were notorious for their in-your-face-belligerence and pugnacity. Now, his niche seems to have been filled by Ron Paul, by my possibly fallible reckoning.

Read the "Update" link above for more info on who's behind this. Short answer is Arno Political Consultants, which has "a long history of getting involved in... unethical behavior"

In today's Ventura County Star on the top of page B11 there's a commentary by Thomas Elias that connects the Giuliani campaign with one of the initiatives in question -- the one to destroy California's existing electoral system. (I'd post the link, but you need to go through the free registration process at The Star in order to view the page online. That'd be up to you.)
