Ojai City Council Meeting Tuesday - Chain Stores

The Ojai City Council will be reviewing an ordinance to regulate chains stores (aka - formula businesses) in Ojai on Tuesday night (7:30pm). This ordinance was drafted by City Staff, reviewed, and passed unanimously without changes, by the Ojai Planning Commission. It will be in the best interests of the community and the City Council to pass this ordinance into law. The City Council will here public comments at the meeting on Tuesday and again on November 27. I urge you to support this ordinance and come voice your support at the meeting. If you can't make the meeting, try calling or emailing the Ojai City Council members (contact info at bottom). What does the ordinance say?

  • Limits the size of formula businesses in the Arcade to 2,000 square feet and less than 25 feet of storefront
  • All formula business must come to the Planning Commission to receive a Conditional Use Permit (this is a public hearing for all proposals).
  • Bans formula fast food citywide
  • Bans formula businesses larger than 10,000 square feet

The ordinance is not perfect, but it is the result of many hours of public hearings (it would be considered a compromise by most people involved). I support the ordinance and would like to see it passed.
