Massage for Peace and Impeachment!

The following comes from Kristofer Young:
Hello Ojai Valley Friends!
Dennis Kucinich needs a good massage. And he’s willing to let you help.
This short story started on Sunday, September 30th, 2007 when Dennis and Elizabeth Kucinich came to the Ojai Retreat Center to speak about Dennis’ vision for our country and for his presidency.
During a tiny break in the intense action of the Kucinich’s day, I offered that if they needed or wanted some chiropractic care that day, that I would make myself available. Elizabeth said, “that’s very kind”, and Dennis said, “WHAT!?”. I repeated the offer. Dennis said, “Oh my gosh, my neck has been killing me for 2 weeks!” That evening I treated Dennis and Elizabeth.
As part of my treatment of the Kucinichs, I ran a relaxing massager on them. They loved it; the sound of purring filled the room. I suggested that they purchase one and take it with them as they traveled the country.
Minutes later I had an even better idea. I told the Kucinich’s that I would ask people of the Ojai Valley if they would contribute a very small amount of money so that we could express our gratitude by gifting the Kucinichs with a massager to relax their bodies as they work for us all. They were touched.
Would you contribute $1 to $5 to bring comfort to the Kucinichs? The massager will cost approximately $200. Extra monies will be given to the Ojai Peace Coalition. Mail your cash or check to Kris Young at 407 Del Norte Road , Ojai , CA 93023 . $65 has already been donated. And, yes, people outside our Valley can contribute to this simple gift.
In peace and friendship,
Kristofer Young , DC

hahaha
I would have a stiff neck too if I looked up and saw a UFO.
Luckily I already have one of those mini-Thumpers.
I don't use it much.
It's pretty new and I have the bag it comes in.
Guess I could donate it to the Kuciniches.
Dr. Young- let me know.
I can drop it off at Del Norte if you like.
Hey, you never know, if Dennis gets elected Prez, he might appoint me Secretary of Health and Human Services, or possibly Surgeon General.

As is often the case, I am confused by the hurley burley of present day United States social customs and manners.
Someone please help me out.
In the course of offering services as part of an expression of thanks to a good Samaritan such as Mr. and Mrs. Kucinich, a doctor determines that the Kuciniches might get comfort and relief from a token item.
Now what?
I can think of a few ways to proceed. But I am confused as to which would be the proper, gracious course of action today. If we have any Ms. Manners types out there, please help! If I am the doctor, I should:
a) Offer to sell the token item to the Kuciniches;
b) Solicit my fellow townspeople to give me money to purchase the item (from me? At retail or wholesale?), which I will then present to the Kuciniches;
c) Give the Kuciniches the token item myself (paid for out of my own pocket) as a measure of my gratitude and respect;
d) Don't do anything, because I can't win no matter what I do, either my gesture will fail to be recognized publicly or some over-analytical blowhard will criticize me regardless;
e) Give the Kuciniches the token item myself without alot of hoopla, then, as a measure of my respect and support, solicit my fellow townspeople to donate to Mr. Kucinich's campaign, with my promise to match out of my own pocket, say, $5 for each $1 donated;
f) Don't dare give the Kuciniches a thing unless they pay full retail for it, because its insulting to Americans to be given things, and anyway, you might run afoul of some obscure or not so obscure campaign regulation, and next thing we know, Rush Limbaugh will spend a week whipping people up into a frenzy over it; or
g) Something else?
By the way, not to be crabby, but just by way of curiosity: When one visits a chiropractor, is the chiropractor supposed to keep one's condition confidential (like an MD), or are those visits non-confidential?

I am usually flummoxed by those who choose to be unknown.
I really appreciate the opportunity to answer some great questions.
The massager will be bought from a company on the internet. The exact cost will be the amount used from the donations.
The massager will be a gift from the givers, not from me.
Privacy rules do pertain to patients of chiropractors. Dennis told me that I was free to discuss our contact and even post it on my web site.
Nice to have people like evan austin in ones life so that one can feel trusted. One could become intimidated on the net.

Flummoxed, i'm sorry you're feeling so. my first sense is that you may be dramatically overcomplicating the whole situation.
your concern about campaign regulations is a good one, but the gift is not a "token". it's practical, clearly needed, and desired. it is in our best collective interest that Dennis and Elizabeth remain comfortable and healthy, and contributing small amounts of money to give them precisely that gift as a community does all sorts of wonderful things for me in terms of being an exercise in collaboration and health, which are significant in my definition of Peace.

Dr. Young-
I'm not sure if you noticed but I offered to donate a (nearly) new mini-Thumper to the Kuciniches (see a few posts above). It can be given in the name of El Anonimously (reminds me of a "Curb Your Enthusiasm" episode), or "The Good People of Ojai" or anything/anyone else you deem appropriate/sensible.
I would post contact information here but I choose to remain "El Anonimo".
If you are new to websites like this, not to worry.
It's less intimidating than trying to adjust a severely rotated atlas.

El Anonimo,
Somehow I missed your wonderful post!
If you felt like giving them your Thumper, that would be great! Then all the money goes straight to the Ojai Peace Coalition. (Of course then, we have to be concerned with the honesty of evan austin. I trust him completely, but there must be those who believe that he is just trying to draw attention to himself with all those hours of work that he does for our community and the world. But, I guess we can't worry about that. We must move onward!)
Whatever works for you is good!
Unfortunately, I too was hoping that by appearing to be a good person, and by paying him off with a Thumper, that Dennis would appoint me as Secretary of Health and Human Services, or possibly Surgeon General. But, you've got dibbs on it. Would you consider appointing me to a position with enormous lifetime benefits?
Comment #6 Posted by: Kristofer Young | November 7, 2007 04:21 PM
now THAT'S peaceful (and funny!) resolution!
thank you, El Anonimo, for your generous - if non-enthusiastic - donation!
thank you, Kris, for your creativity and trust! i rub my hands together menacingly as my personal empire grows!
i've got my eye on a Cabinet-level position. the new Department of Peace is gonna need a Secretary, right? ;)
Comment #7 Posted by: evan austin | November 7, 2007 04:32 PM
Dream on! As Ojai's only vegan green former mayor, I'm certain Dennis will appoint me as his closest and most trusted advisor, second only to Elizabeth.
Comment #8 Posted by: Suza | November 7, 2007 04:48 PM
evan- are you commenting on my "non-enthusiastic" donation because i mentioned "Curb Your Enthusiasm"?
kris- i can offer you lifetime benefits. i used to be a dc (really, licensed and everything) and i can adjust you till you die??? (i must be giddy)
suze- Queen, Empress, Yogini-Dakini-Tantrika, you name it, you got it
Comment #9 Posted by: El Anonimo | November 7, 2007 05:27 PM
Kris- shall I drop it off at 407 Del Norte?

Well, this is encouraging news. Sorry to bust in here with news about the actual impeachment rather than just Rep. Kuchinich's need for a message, but here's a quote from Rep. Robert Waxler of Florida of all places:
"The American people are served well with a legitimate and thorough impeachment inquiry. I will urge the Judiciary Committee to schedule impeachment hearings immediately and not let this issue languish as it has over the last six months. Only through hearings can we bring begin to correct the abuses of Dick Cheney and the Bush Administration; and, if it is determined in these hearings that Vice President Cheney has committed High Crimes and Misdemeanors, he should be impeached and removed from office."
The above is from a letter Rep. Wexler has sent to the House Judiciary Commette. He could use our support. Here's yet another link to add to all the others to help you in contacting the congress:
http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/
While it is good to try to put Rep. Kucinich and his wife at ease through massage, there really is an opportunity right now to rehabilitate the entire United States. I'm sure we will all be able to relax much more easily after justice, the rule of law, and our Constitution have been restored by impeaching the Bush administration starting with Dick Cheney. Hell, I'll buy everyone a messager if we can achieve that.

El Anonimo,
Yes, please, drop it off at 407! Thank you!!!
I look forward to the lifetime benefits that you offer. I am not planning on dying in the near future. Possibly I could schedule a benefit session. Beware, though my atlas is not severely rotated, it is majorly hypomobile (stuck).
evan and Suza,
This is no joking matter. There is only so much room at the top. Enter not into this chess game. There can only be one winner, everyone else will be checkmated; I know you don't want that!
spk,
I am in complete agreement with you re the importance of impeaching Cheney. For me, the issues are not mutually exclusive nor unrelated. Dennis needs to be well to carry on his wise and caring work. A little massage and the knowing that many people in a small community care for and feel for him, may be a tad of sustenance for him.
Best wishes for health and justice for each of you,

Thanks to El Anonimo, we are one more step down the road! The delivery was made. El Anonimo brought me the Thumper that he is giving to the Kucinichs in the name of the loving people of Ojai!
There is no longer need for more money for the project. Again, all extra will go to the Ojai Peace Coalition, and its power-seeking leader, my loving friend, evan austin.
I will move on to the mailing of the machine to Dennis and Elizabeth.
I feel like I am forgetting something. If I am, would someone remind me in a polite and loving sort of way?

If Kucinich succeeds in impeaching Cheney can we take up another collection and send him a box of Ojai oranges?
Comment #15 Posted by: Suza | November 9, 2007 08:19 PM
PS Seriously, I think it's great El Anonimo donated the massager in the name of the good people of Ojai and that you are facilitating this wonderful gift. I am sure Dennis and Elizabeth will be pleasantly surprised. If there is any concern about campaign regulations just enclose a Christmas card...

Hello Friends!
The Thumper massager for the Kucinichs will be in the mail tomorrow, with the following note:
Dearest Dennis and Elizabeth,
Hello! Kris Young, chiropractor from Ojai, California, here.
As promised, peace-loving people of Ojai have come together to send you this Thumper massager. We wish you the best of health and the greatest of comfort as you live your lives, and as you work to care for all people.
To get the most from this massager, we recommend that you plug it in and use it on yourselves regularly. Stored, and forgotten in a cupboard, it will have minimal influence on your health and psyche.
As we began raising money to purchase your massager, an individual came forth who owned a near-new Thumper that he was not using. He gifted it to you. This provided a beautiful opportunity; 1) a Thumper for you, 2) no need to have a new unit made, and 3) the money that had been raised for a the purchase will be contributed to the Ojai Peace Coalition.
Please know, and feel in your hearts how much we appreciate each of you!
In peace and justice,
People of Ojai, California

From the Economist (11/24):
Endorsement of the Week
“I support Dennis Kucinich because not only have I been a friend of his for 40 years, but I believe he offers an essential and viable option to the (other) candidates” --- Larry Flynt, a pornographer

The KKK and the American Nazi Party support Ron Paul. (You'll find their enthusiastic endorsements at http://www.stormfront.org ) People who believe that the Earth is only 6,000 years old support Mike Huckabee. Every single other candidate has support from someone you probably wouldn't invite over to dinner. What's your point?

but but but... Kucinich said he would consider Ron Paul as a running mate?! now those are strange bedfellows.

That's truly strange. I wouldn't vote for him if he dragged Ron Paul along. That would put Paul a heartbeat away from the presidency, and I wouldn't put it past some of his supporters to do anything it took to put Paul in the Oval Office.
