Thanks for opening a post on the fires...I hate hijacking other threads! The fire to keep an eye on is the Ranch - it's growing and they are calling in air support. Also, there is some good coverage on the Castle (Malibu) on the local CBS news site.

Thanks again!

oh, there's not just one, there are several right now. so far this is the most interesting way to keep up with them I've found.

Hi all -

please use this as an Open Fire Thread for now - thanks for posting, Millennium. I'll do some additional research for our local fires and get something going.

thinking good thoughts for my Malibu and Topanga friends who are evacuating.

KVTA seems to be updating fairly regularly: http://www.kvta.com/
Ventura Co. has a bit of info, too:

Wow! Tonight the first segment on 60 Minutes was entitled "The Age of MegaFires." Scott Pelley delivered a riveting report about the mega-fires that are now plaguing areas in America.
He interviewed firefighters and various experts about what is causing the magnitude of the fires we are seeing today. If I understood correctly, various factors are converging, including the unintended consequences of fire fighting/prevention practices that have actually resulted in bigger and bigger fires.

The segment concludes that the American West is quickly disappearing due to a single degree temperature increase. Further proof that global warming is changing the landscape of the world is the lengthening fire season in the West.

In case you missed it, a dvd of the show will be released on amazon early November. And this important 12-minute report might be available on the Internet. If any one else saw it, please let us know what you think!!
