Jackson Browne in Ojai: For the Birds III

Jackson Browne, called the "poster boy of the Southern California confessional singer-songwriter movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s" by Wikipedia, will play a special benefit concert on Sunday October 7th at 1pm in Libbey Bowl, to benefit the Ojai Raptor Center.

The concert also features local acoustic pop sensations The Household Gods. Open lawn seating tickets are $40, and are available at Local Hero Books (formerly Table of Contents) in Ojai, and at Patagonia and Salzers in Ventura.

The Ojai Raptor Center is dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of orphaned and injured birds of prey and to providing educational programs to teach about raptors and our shared environment. They are a non profit organization licensed by The California Department of Fish and Game and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The center takes in approximately 1,000 birds a year. ~ Your ticket purchase is tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. ~

Jackson has played locally many times, notably for the Ventura Hillsides benefits. Songs you may recognize include "Doctor My Eyes", "The Pretender", "Running On Empty", "Somebody's Baby", and "Lives In The Balance".

Keep at it Jackson you are a voice for all of us...thanks diane wilkerson

I remember seeing Jackson Brown with Linda Ronstant in San Luis Obispo at the Stop Diablo Canyon concert up there. What a great show! That was the day I heard from somebody that Lowell George of Little Feet had died. I would hope that Jackson Brown would take another look at nuclear power now and the benifits of it. France is almost 90% nuclear power and they have the cleanest atmosphere of any country in Europe. They are using technology originally developed by us and they have now gone beyond that. What they are left with after using the uranium for power is less harmful than the way it is naturally found in nature, after it has been combined in glass. If we continue down the current path we will be looking at burning more massive amounts of coal. Powder river up in Montana is scheduled to come on line soon, as well as hundreds of more coal burning plants. The burning of coal produces massive amounts of poisons and toxins that go into the air we breath as well as radioactive particles that are released when the coal is burned.

Thank you Brian for this excellent comment. Not sure how much it has to do with Jackson Browne.... but nuclear energy has a very unfortunate and undeserved reputation for being not environmentally sound, when in fact it is the only real large-scale alternative to fossil fuels... therefore the only meaningful remedy for global warming.... maybe you can get Jackson Browne to sing about that!

i'll mention your comments to Jackson, whom i'm sure wishes you'd take another look at nuclear power as well.

for clarity and balance, Jackson also has also been a notable voice for peace, justice, civil rights, and the environment for many years. he continues to do so by headlining a Pray for Peace benefit, performing at WITNESS' Focus for Change benefit dinner, and appearing on Ed Begley Jr's "Living with Ed" show on HGTV.

Evan,
That would be cool, maybe Crosby and Nash could weigh in as well!
