beautiful, great light.
Interesting factoid: went to 6 places today for fans and all 6 were sold out. all air conditioners, all floor, table and box fans; including home depot, lowes, target, and ace.
Beautiful…mystical golden lighting…thank you, it’s a pleasure to see this.
Firefighters finally declared victory over the Zaca fire Sunday.

Alyeska and I got to play at the beach today. The first time in a year. Great picture. ?Are we done with the heat already?
WE ARE BEING DISARMED -Since this is an open thread I wish to urge people, in these times of escalating violent crime, to greatly increase their defense and implementation of the 2nd Amendmant to our great and far-seeing Constitution wherein our founding leaders recognized that armed citizens are the basic protectors of freedom and, I feel, are the ONLY answer to violent crime. Toward this end I wish to paraphrase a musical lament of yesteryear: ’Where have all the good people gone-gone to the graveyard every -one? -killed by the armed criminals the police protect- by disarming citizens the criminals attack.’ Could this become the funeral dirge for our great Christian Civilization of America that our ancestors sacrificed and died for? It very well could in view of the depraved and psychopathic efforts of our bureaucratic de-facto commissars and their police lackeys to disarm and persecute Americans who exercise their God-given constitutional right to own and bear firearms to protect themselves and families. The result of this, of course, is the continual reduction of us to a nation of disarmed sheeple blindly marching our way toward the slaughterhouse of the planned Police State. Quite apparently, the strategy being employed by the political bosses of the bureaucratic aspiring commissars and police sycophants is to deliberately release criminals of the worst sort into our neighborhoods to create an ever escalating crime rate to justify ever increasing taxation for ever expanding bureaucratic and police empires to ultimately impose their will, not on the perverted criminal element they created, but on us as the disarmed ’citizens’ of their planned New World Order. The most glaring example of this strategy is the forcible introduction into our neighborhoods of perverted sexual predators to prey on our children and others as news reports continually indicate heinous crimes by perpetrators on the street with criminal records longer than your arm. Of course when that happens people, encouraged by the prostitute media, run around like barnyard chickens and enact worse than useless laws like Megans’ law, (which reportedly would not have saved Megan ), etc. creating more mega-million dollar bureaus to administer more asininity. The solution obviously is to put the perpetrators in prison for life and encourage citizens to routinely arm themselves at all times for protection and violent crime will drop to next to zero quickly instead of escalating as it now is under our present leaders who apparently conspire to bring about empire building through escalating crime and care nothing about human life or suffering. We should see: http://www.JBS.org (search: gun control) and demand leaders that protect our safety and rights instead of engaging in mindless party line voting and malfeasance protecting their fat paychecks. . Anonymous- It’s about time. This fire could have been out in a couple of days weeks ago if the DC-10 had been used to its’ full capacity.-Ed Nemechek.
Ed, your statements on gun control are not supported by facts. This nation has the most guns in the world in the hands of its citizens and also has the highest rate of crime and gun deaths of any other country. How do you explain that away? We have more people in prison than any other nation, INCLUDING CHINA!
Sweet Jeebus, Ed — you’re even crazier than I am, aren’t you?
Hurts, doesn’t it?
I hope you find some real happiness before you leave this world.
Coleen Ashly: I think that throwing statistics around in lengthy debates is redundant and can go on forever. The facts are that violent crime drops dramatically whenever states enact concealed-carry gun laws so people can protect themselves on the street where protection is most needed. In many states, like Califionia, it’s illegal to carry a gun on the street, etc., so people are left to the mercy of the vicious criminals our justice system protects. Ask yourself how many school shootings there would be if school officials were armed as they should be? How many banks would be robbed if most people in the bank were armed? How many mass killings would occur if most people on the street were armed? How many kidnappings, rapes, and killings of our children would occur if armed bystanders intervened, shooting the tires of the escaping vehicles, etc.? The amount of guns people own is moot if they cannot carry them for protection. The violent criminals in our prisons are there because their unarmed victims couldn’t kill them in their own self defense because they were disarmed by their own government. Regarding China, if the chinese people by some miracle woke up some morning with loaded guns under their pillows the criminal government of China would be gone by noon. This is the principle behind the 2nd Amendment and why it exists. -Ed Nemechek
Phalarope: What’s wrong with wanting to use our constitutional rights for self protection? The obvious answer to violent crime is to shoot back instead of cowering in corners disarmed by our own government and so-called police as we are now.–Ed Nemechek- 760-246-8059.
Ed — nowhere do you consider the real probable consequences of everybody walking around packing a sidearm. You really aren’t a very accurate observer of human behavior, are you?
You probably would say that guns would only be sold or given to people who could pass some sort of litmus test, right? Who would administer that test? Who would decide who was good and who was bad? Who would keep the database on all of the “good” gun owners? A government that wanted and needed to know even more about its citizens that the current one? Who would take guns away from people who misused them to, say, solve a parking dispute or decide who was going to claim that last Play Station or Wii?
Your ideas are idealistic, to be sure, but not realistic in the least. I don’t know what the solution to the gun problem — as seen by people on any side of that issue — might be, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t involve making sure that everyone’s packing. (Sounds lke a good way to increase gun sales, though, and to reduce the population in over-crowded cities.)
Below is the text of the 2nd amendment to the U. S. Constitution. I think it speaks clearly for itself regarding the intent to maintain a militia, a far cry from every citizen armed with a hand gun. Like most Americans, I support more gun control but don’t advocate disarming the National Guard (although I wish there were more of them still on American soil lest we need their services here).
“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
Anonymous: In the spirit of what the 2nd Amendment SAYS, I’m opposed to ANY kind of government gun control. The Amendment allows for no gun controls whatsoever. I’m not saying that everybody should carry guns, only people who want to. It’s their decision according to the Amendment and common sense. The Amendment restricts no class of people from having guns either (such as ex-felons, criminals, etc., as is done today). Allowing government to determine who can have guns is like the chickens allowing the fox to guard the hen house. By protecting the right of everyone to carry guns that wants to (good and bad people alike) we will have freedom from totalitarian government and will have peace because there are far more good people and they will stop the bad. Hitlers’ gun control law to prevent “bad” people from getting guns in Germany resulted in gun licenses being issued only to members of his Gestopo, similar to what is happening in our country now. Regarding your suggestion that armed citizens would run around willy-nilly shooting each other, I would remember the words of the great western historian and novelist Louis L’Amour when he observed that ‘the ‘wild’ West wasn’t really wild, except for isolated incidents which have been dramatised, but was a routinely peaceful place because the people were armed and an ‘armed society is a POLITE society’ for obvious. reasons. The founding leaders of our country knew what they were doing and I don’t recall any of them applying to King George for gun permits. We should respect their Constitution that, incidentally, our government officials and so-called police (who CONFISCATE our guns on the street and leave us as helpless victims) have SWORN to defend and uphold! — Ed Nemechek-760-246-8059.
“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”(2nd Amendment).
Lanny: What this obviously is saying very plainly is that because we need a militia ‘ … the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. What that means is that when the militia (the people) are called up, they will show up already armed with their own guns. The militia is regulated, not the people in their free state. –Ed Nemechek.
Obviously, as profound as they are, both the Bible and the Constitution have been debated and dissected for centuries by scholars much greater than I. In that spirit, here is Webster’s defintion of a militia:
1 a: a part of the organized armed forces of a country liable to call only in emergency; b: a body of citizens organized for military service
2: the whole body of able-bodied male citizens declared by law as being subject to call to military service
Which definition do you think is the one intended by the founding fathers? Nowhere do I see your suggestion that being organized includes being already armed. nor does the constitutional term “well regulated’ imply that. Soldiers aren’t expected to show up at boot camp already armed. A well-regulated militia could have armories containing the types of arms designed to quell an insurrection, defend our soil, etc., rather than a gun in every closet.
I’m not saying that no citizen should be allowed to possess a gun but I’m troubled by your statement above: “Allowing government to determine who can have guns is like the chickens allowing the fox to guard the hen house. By protecting the right of everyone to carry guns that wants to (good and bad people alike) we will have freedom from totalitarian government…” I believe that there is a segment of the population that believes all citizens should be armed in case we need to overthrow a totalitarian government. Are you in that group? If so, you should know that advocating such a policy is a violation of U.S. Code Title 18,2385: Advocating Overthrow of Government, the text of which follows below:
Whoever knowingly or willfully advocates, abets, advises, or teaches the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying the government of the United States or the government of any State, Territory, District or Possession thereof, or the government of any political subdivision therein, by force or violence, or by the assassination of any officer of any such government; or
Whoever, with intent to cause the overthrow or destruction of any such government, prints, publishes, edits, issues, circulates, sells, distributes, or publicly displays any written or printed matter advocating, advising, or teaching the duty, necessity, desirability, or propriety of overthrowing or destroying any government in the United States by force or violence, or attempts to do so; or
Whoever organizes or helps or attempts to organize any society, group, or assembly of persons who teach, advocate, or encourage the overthrow or destruction of any such government by force or violence; or becomes or is a member of, or affiliates with, any such society, group, or assembly of persons, knowing the purposes thereof—
Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both, and shall be ineligible for employment by the United States or any department or agency thereof, for the five years next following his conviction.
i vote for Santa Claus to administer the Armed Citizens program…he knows who’s naughty and nice, has a large staff for maintaining the database, and can see you at any time which eliminates the risk of unauthorized use going unprocessed. he’s also not a U.S. Citizen, which protects him from such annoyances as oversight and subjection to our Constitution. however, he also wears red, which clearly marks him as a communist. sorry, Ed.
Evan, You get funnier and funnier. Thank you for lightening the mood and for making your point just the same.
Your NO comedian. I HOPE your child isnt dangerous like yourself!
I support the Patriot Act fully. Anyone against the protection of Americans are terrorist’s in training.
10 Probable Terrorist’s:
1. John F.Kerry
2. Bill Clinton
3. Hillary Rodham Clinton
5. Nancy Pelosi
6. Howard Dean
7. Barbara Boxer
8. Ted Kennedy
9. Thomas Daschle
10. Harry Reid
Evan is rude and plainly misrepresents the truth. Evan and others continue to mock my friend Claire and I.
aw c’mon, “evan the great”…lighten up! Noa can’t be all that dangerous…she doesn’t even have kneecaps!
your secret hidden message in all caps reads NO HOPE. that seems very sad to me, and i wish for you to find a brighter way to look at the world.
in other news, i’m thinking of starting a thread on the proper use of the golden apostrophe. i’m not even sure what a “terrorist’s” is…
The Democratic Party is a good example of a terrorist network. Wasn’t Sen.Ted Kennedy on a “No Fly list”?
The hard working Truckers are just trying to make a living, feed their families, and send their kids to collage, and all they get from the elite Ojai crowd is contempt!
Lanny: You simply CANNOT understand what I’m saying so I will have to let it go at that. Your quotation of the above legal jargon would qualify you for a high position under King George III in 1776 if you lived during that period of history. During that time soldiers were expected to show up armed, not like the asinine rules of today. You have swallowed the line of the gun grabbers hook, line, and sinker, and I’m sorry for that. I feel the great majority of the American people support 2nd Amendment gun rights unrestricted and if we ever give up our gun rights we are doomed as a free America. If the German people had kept their guns Hitler and his crowd would have been swiss cheese before they could have ever caused the problems in Europe they did.–Ed Nemechek.-760-246-8059.
Pro-gun rights and a card carrying NRA loyalist.
I do not see one person on this page saying they support outlawing a citizen’s right to own a gun. I do not know of a single state that has outlawed a citizen’s right to carry a gun (with the exception of convicted felons). I have not heard of a movement anywhere in the U.S. to outlaw guns.
What you are proposing here on this page is not born out by the facts. Every state that has reinstated the death penalty for example, their homicide rate has increased. The death penalty does not deter murder. Citizens carrying weapons on the streets will not deter crime either. What will happen are more innocent bystanders will be killed by hotshot egomaniacs who think they can stop a robbery (it’s just money), a fight, or any number of petty crimes.
Keep your guns to protect your homes and hunt. No problem there. Assault rifles and concealed weapons are another subject entirely.
Look at other countries. Open your minds to the FACTS. The murder rate in the country of England is smaller than in one American city. The same thing goes for Canada, France, and Germany. Civilized nations do not arm their citizens.
The US Constitution does not give you the “right” to carry a gun. Owning and carrying a gun into the commons is a privilege and it comes with responsibilities and consequences.
What is this “probable terrorist” list, Victoria? Are you truly a real person who could possibly think something so absurd? Where do you come off saying something like this on a public forum? Why don’t you list your phone number next time? At least Ed puts it out there and honestly puts his name to what he says. I think you have to be a Republican troll to have said something so totally ridiculous on this blog! (No, I take that back…I know a lot of nice republicans and I don’t think any of them would say something like that. If you are a Republican then you are an embarrassment to the Republican party!)
Since this is the only open thread, (or perhaps maybe one of the “authors” might post this question for me on its own thread) can someone tell me exactly what people have against Hillary Clinton? I’m not talking about her stance on the war, because I sure hold that against her. I’m talking about the vitriolic hatred that the right wing and the Republican party, and possibly the Libertarian party and even some Independents, and shockingly, many, many Democrats, have been spewing since before she even ran for her Senate seat and continuing all the way to today.
Is it just that she was “married” to Bill Clinton?
Anyone?
can someone tell me exactly what people have against Hillary Clinton?
Why do they attack? They’re afraid.
She’s the most serious competition, so they have to attack her, much the way they attacked the man who pulled the surprise upset on Bush 41. Remember how they started in on Bill Clinton before he was ever inaugurated? Remember how they went after both Bill and Hillary during the Whitewater farce? They never let up on him the entire time he was in office.
Tyler: I get your drift from the truck site. However, I feel that I’ve never advocated anything detrimental to Ojai (where I have relatives) or anywhere else, but of course opinions differ. My interest in the DC-10 and other Supertankers began when my family had to evacuate in a big fire in the Yucca Valley area awhile back and my wife had to go in for smoke inhalation, with lasting effects, in the middle of the night with fire burning all around. It was terrifying. Then I realized the DC-10 was sitting about 70 miles away and was never used until the fire reached Big Bear about 70 miles away after Mayor Rothchild of Victorville, and Mike Pedilla of Cal-Fire had to DEMAND it be used to save Big Bear (it was also used to save Ojai in a later fire). The 747 was also available but never used. I actually called and talked to a Supertanker pilot at length about the problem and he said these major fires could have been stopped in one day if a Supertanker was used in the begining of the fire. I guess my problem is that I simply can’t understand why people are still debating the Supertanker issue (which shouldn’t even be an issue) 12 years after they became available and massive fires are still burning. WHY?-I feel we MUST find out.– Thanks for your patience-Ed Nemechek.-760-246-8059.
