Question: What is going on in Ojai in the way of special events this week and next? Thanks

Sitting here in slippers and glasses, trying to meet a writing deadline...D&A, if you are thinking of coming to Ojai, next weekend is the Locally Grown Concert, which is shaping up to be quite an event. I've covered it a few times on these pages, so a simple search will give you all the info you need.

You are night owls. I woke up myself at 4 am with politics, not fires or babies on my mind. I am pleased to see that the air is clear now with no signs of fire that I can see.
The wind has changed in Ojai politics in our favor. The time has come to once again take the initiative in preparing safe ground from political fires that parallel the physical ones.
I was talking to Jeff F. shortly after the Wednesday meeting. He suggested that we should draft our own ordinance but he was too busy to do it himself. I said I would take a shot at it.
I have prepared a draft ordinance on formula retail chains in order to assist the city in their efforts, using their previous one and Kenley's initiative as models. As you know the city's latest draft ordinance was rejected by the planning commission on Wednesday, and goes back to the staff and attorneys for yet another draft.
I will be distributing hard copies of my citizen draft to the city and citizens for feedback. I think we have to take the lead in this process.
Rather than post the draft ordinance here along with the cover letter, I will provide the link to my website. # 3 is the draft ordinance and # 4 is the cover letter. The link is http://laojaivalleyepost.blogstream.com/
How's the family, Evan? May peace prevail in this vale of happiness down to the seventh generation and beyond. By the way, is it the 23rd for the Noble Peace Prize? I haven't heard much about it lately. Love to all.

Drown Street residents enjoyed the 2nd annual block party last night. lots of good food, live music, a cake walk!, and the best part --just playing in the street. Kids on bikes, skateboards, and a lively basketball game at one end of the block.
dana- we met your nephews from ventura. i heard your brother was a bit surprised about the party. the band was in front of your house! wished you could have been there.

Thanks Leslie for giving an account of the evening. I was hoping you and others would get to know my brother and his family. I too was surprised. I had just emailed Bill(Bill has been working on this idea since before I left for Philadelphia) and he let me know moments after the music started, by return email, of the event. Wow! I wish I was there to see everyone. Looking forward to e-pics.
Here in Philadelphia, Block Parties are big/popular. Most are scheduled during the summer vacation. The City of Philadelphia makes it very easy to schedule one without any pain in the process. It is common to be driving and see a side street full of people doing their Block Party. It's a Great Thing. I live next to a 4 lane road that is a major artery. One full block was closed off for a Block Party, that included an antique car show. I can't imagine that being allowed in California. But I would like to see this seemingly East Coast tradition become more common in California. It helps build neighborly relations. Philadelphia is known as the "City of Neighborhoods", over 200 hundred of them.
Thanks Tyler for reminding me of the Ojai events web site.

Dennis,
the family is great...we're all learning each other, and enjoying that process. it's not a shocking transition, to be a parent (after all, we had more than just some idea of what we were doing when we decided to reproduce)...it simply requires some redefining of "normal". for example, getting little sleep - and that in 2-3 hour chunks - is now "normal". no against-ness required!
Noble Peace Prize is in production and will be presented at the Libbey Park fountain on friday september 21 (International Peace Day) at 5:30pm. be there!
