T – 5 days and counting to mine, and Miss Aly’s return to Ojai. We are only days shy of being in Philadelphia a year, this, my fourth time out here. As much as I missed Ojai, I truly fell in love with this City. There is so much I’ll miss from here. Pennypack Park I’ll miss the most. I put the miles down, running in that incredibly beautiful park with it’s creek and tall trees with vines hanging down, grass that is always green, animals all about, and all the sounds of the birds and insects that penetrate your sense of being, awesome experience.
But I’m looking forward to the smells of Ojai, the chaparral and orange blossoms. Miss Aly is looking forward to the burritos from the Mexican food store in M.O. on El Roblar at Arnez, next to the laundry mat. It’s our favourite Burrito stop. Also in this little store are Mexican popsicles, with unique flavours, that are the best after a hike in the river bottom.
A little trivia, catty corner from the location, you will see apartments, have you ever wondered why there is this long window along the El Roblar side-that used to be a restaurant when I was little, never ate there though.
Once there I’ll be scrambling to get working again in electrical and some remodeling, getting Alyeska in school. School doesn’t start here until Sept. but Ojai will have started by our arrival.
By and by, I’m looking forward to bumping into many of you, and actually have a face to face chat or a simple hello. Aly and I will be all over, walking our favourite paths to our favourite haunts. Just look for the ugliest guy that walks with an east coast limp along with prettiest girl, that will be us.
I remember that restaurant, too, but never ate there. I was under the impression that it was high-end (& out of my budget range), no menu,(you ate what they were serving) and extremely limited seating. Casbah? Coolibah? I can’t recall the name.
Another nearby food fact: Lanna Thai, which preceded Exotic Thai at what used to be Pepe Delgado’s on Ojai Ave. & Park next to Ojai Auto Parts was originally supposed to have been at the building just west of the laundromat, but the County created too many hoops for the owners to jump through and they set up in Ojai instead.
sure! i still have the Cuppa Joe #1 email list…it’s dusty from non-use, but i think Dana’s re-arrival is great reason to brush it off. do we have a topic for gathering, or is it just neighbors-connecting-with-neighbors?
That would be fun! I would love to meet all of you. You will find I’m approachable and love to hear what you have to say.

Today, I went on a bike ride and ended up at Pennypack Park. On my way home, I passed three different Block Parties. School is about to start so there is that last little hoo rah for everyone before routines take over. This is a great tradition that I think Ojai could really benefit from.
T – 4 days and counting.
T – 2 days and counting. Packing begins today. Alyeska is having her going away party tonight. Today is a spectacular day, a breeze, low humidity, blue skies with puffs of clouds. A nice contrast to 84% + humidity at 91+ degrees days on end.
What happended to the resturant named Coolibah? I read on August 24, 2007 08:35 PM that someone knew of this high end resturant.

Dana’s coming to town, maybe its time for our second Cup O’ Joe. Hey evan, want to get that rollin’? Who’s in?
